- Max stops by Gabrielle’s place to drop off a present for Al, and to tell her he’s leaving town. Larry agonizes over how to tell Viki the truth about Christine, Brenda agrees to go with Larry to help break the news. Viki is looking forward to the birthday party she’s planning to throw Christine this evening. Clint asks if she ever found out why Christine was so upset the other day, but Viki says it was probably nothing. At the Buchanan mansion, Asa and Renee head over to Viki’s party, while Cord and Tina open presents with CJ. At the Carriage House, Wade and Mari Lynn trade gifts; Christine arrives and asks to speak to Wade alone. Christine asks Wade for his moral support when she tells Viki the truth.
At Llanfair, Renee is surprised when Kevin, Joey, and Jessica call her “grandma” for the first time. Max says goodbye to his son and promises to come back one day. Sarah stops by Megan’s hotel to comfort her on her breakup with Max. Sarah suggests if she loves Max as much as she says, she should go to the airport and tell him. Max stops in to say goodbye to Tina and Cord; Tina tells him he should reconsider leaving Megan behind. Christine pulls Viki aside to tell her the truth;but Larry arrives before they can talk.. At the airport, Megan shows up in time to see a flight attendant flirting with Max, so she decides not to speak to him after all. Larry tells Viki that Christine is not her daughter.

It was nice that Cord gave Tina a private moment to say goodbye to Max, as she did with him and Sarah at the airport.

I am pretty sure back in the day I wanted her and Max to get together because I didn't like the way Cord treated her. But she's my favorite soap character, so if she's happy with Cord...

I viewed One Life to Live 1991-2012. About 20 years, I know most of these characters from 1988, because of Soaps continuing story. It’s good to see things I’d only heard about. I’m thankful for VCR’s whim h are a thing of the past now . OLTL was was high class at this point, and the Original😮 Malone years. Other than that folks were just trying to get things “wright”!

See, I vaguely remember he did take this opportunity to leave... but then feel like it was very, very short lived? Is that maybe when he divorced Misty Rowe? Because I feel like in his absence in early 1989, he guest starred on "Hee-Haw", and then shortly after he was back. Maybe he divorced and felt coming back to the soap was the best therapy?
@@erikandrus4387 This was when James Depaiva and the show, or ABC, were having contract disputes. I think he was only off the show for around 6 weeks this first time.
@@tammyramey that makes sense. He actually was gone a little longer than 6 weeks , I think it was about 3 months which seems too long that it was just a break or vacation like erika I noticed would get about a months break. Ty for shedding light on that. I always wondered b/c it's hard to believe he quit the show only to come back 3 months later & 3 months is a very long vacation esp for a leading man which jdp def was at this time. The second time he left was for about 18 months
@@natalieps2387 He was difficult to get along with, something he absolutely confirms. He wanted to do more directing on the show. They wanted him behind the camera more. I read an article about it just a few months ago. He actually went to some self-help class to help himself not be so angry. He was pretty candid in the interview.
@@erikandrus4387no he divorced. Misty later on this was I think when he was having contract disputes with ABC that Paul Rauch fixed. It was in early 1990 when he left the show to go to California to try and save his marriage to misty.
He would return of course in 1991 and of course stubid linda gotlieb pretended max never had a face transplant.
And by the way Jimmy depiava got along with Paul Rauch.
That was such a lovely moment between cord & tina. She was called greedy but she says to cord she does not care about presents just him & cj is all she wanted. Awesome couple. Max has nerve saying gabrielle neglects al! He barely saw the child ever, which was pointed out many times. When he sued gabrielle for custody john remarked that he had a poor chance b/c he never claimed al meaning he never put himself on the birth certificate or he never established any custody or rights to him esp since they never married. He just left him w/ gabrielle the whole time. He did not care his brother steve was calling al " his son " & referred to himself as daddy & moved gabrielle across country w/ al & max did not care.
The sendoff for max was well done. It was a good goodbye & also left the door open for a return
Tina was SUCH an interesting character. She had a craving for adventure, but when she got in her 20's, it was clear she wanted the domestic, nuclear family she didn't have growing up. She liked what Viki and Joe had.
Ok, I don't really have a big problem with the character of Christine and I understand she's hurting and vulnerable and needs a friend. I don't really want to excuse her CONSTANTLY begging for Wade's attention, but I can understand her pain. But to walk into the the party clutching Wade's hand like that! Give me a break. Totally on Mari Lynn's side with this one
