personally an asymmetrical 4-3-3 is one of the formations I've been using recently in career mode(only one winger, the other two in the front 3 being strikers) generally even making small changes to player positions can make huge difference(e.g. in a 3-1-4-2, make one of the CMs into a LAM/RAM, and bring a striker down to a RF/LF to create an asymmetrical formation, also worked well for me), and you can have more freedom/diversity in player signings(or maybe just more fun with random formations)
I remember my grandfather explaining me the WM formation because I was confused by him saying his team played with both inner and outer wing players. I will try it on FIFA23
For anyone looking for an interesting (and weird) formation , i've tried to play a 1 CB 1LB and 1 RB formation. Let me explain So , its a variation i've made of the 3-5-1-1 (the one with 2 CDMs 1 CM And a CF). In this formation you have 3 CB , 2 CDMs 1CM 1LM 1RM , 1 CF and 1 ST. In my variation the LCB and RCB become LB and RB respectively, with only 1 CB remaing. One other change is that the RM and LM become RAM and LAM , while the CF can remain CF (or you can make him a CAM too) In attack you use your LB and RB for the width , the CM for box to box , and the CAMs for playmaking/making triangles with the ST. The CDMs stay back to provide cover. Its more of a possession based formation but you can play counter attack on it too. In defense its a bit weird. LB and RB can become LCB/RCB so that you defend with 3 at the back , the 2 CDMs can stay in front of the lone CB or cover the RCB/LCB spot if the LB/RB is missing or out wide, thus creating a 4 at the back . CM is a bit of a wondering child helping with the build up and the interceptions. And you can either make the CAM to come back , or the LAM and RAM if you want more cover in the wings. Player preferences: -a CB you can rely on physically and technically -Box to box LB/RB and CM -Defensive minded CDMs with interception and some passing (and preferably tall) -LAM/CAM/RAM dribblers that can shoot and/or get in behind -ST whatever you please , either a target man or a "get in behind" agile striker. Sorry for the long comment , hope you have fun and make your own variation too. Glad to hear feedback if anyone tries it : ) -
@@charlieashton4749 You can tweak things around to suit your playstyle but the instructions i use are: LB/RB join the attack + overlap (you need width) CDMs stay back while attacking + cut passing lanes (though you can put one on man mark) + cover center CM join the attack + stay on the edge For the CAMs you are free to use whatever you choose fit , i use free roam for all 3 of them cause i like more movement (you can use false 9 for the CAM if you make him a CF) For the ST it depends on the type of ST , either target man or get in behind , though i haven't tried false 9 The tactics i use: Press when poss lost Slow build up/Balanced Possession (i think thats the key for this formation) A very high defence line 70% +/- players in the box Hope these were helpful and i am wondering if you have tried the formation already
I played some matches using ur formation in my goteborg career in 2 season (I simulate all the matches) I never have a clean sheet but always I score one more goal and i made it do 1/2 of the conference league. Now I'm gonna face wolves I can tell if I losse 6:0 or something more promising. (Sorry for my poor English but it's not my first language).
i draw in home 3:3 I got a same possession with 3 class better team(that's rare thing)and I lose 4:2 in the away match. Still same possession and similar shoot's. 65 depth 65 wide in the defensive line and the same in attack
Helanio Herrera’s version of Catenccio had a counter attack with wing backs such as Facchetti who scored 10 goals from left back and Sandro Mazzola operated as a second striker. In Midfield Luis Suarez played as a deep playmaker
I’ve seen a club here in the US line up in essentially a 3322 as well as a 2332. I think in FIFA you could start with the 451 attack formation and move one fullback to striker and slide the other over to a CB and more or less have a 3322
The WM formation the LW and RW are actually supposed to be LWB and RWB that join the attack and overlap so they attack the wings and make that W only in attack
Thank you for sharing. I love tinkering whit formations in fifa i got too meny central players one day and decided to make it work for me so i made a custom 3-4-2-1 and it works well and still got me tinkering on it. Might share it one day.
It's all well and good using weird formations, but they won't work how they're supposed to, unless you get the instructions and tactics correct. I even like to sometimes use the "Defensive" and "Attacking" gameplans as "on the ball" and "off the ball" to make it easier for me to make sure the players do the right thing.
Love a video like this with interesting tactics. Had hard time finding it though amidst all the "BEST META OP FORMATION TACTICS TO WIN GAMES RANK 1 WL"
i’ve used the wm formation in an arsenal career, it’s difficult to get used to but once you do and have players on the right instructions or tactics it can be quite effective on the counter
Its interesting how the zonamista 442 is basically 352 with the lwb being more defensive and rwb more attacking, but coming back on defense. Explains why the formation is used so often in italy
Catennacio on FIFA is pretty useless unless you wanna defend on the last 3 mins : - THE AI IS STILL HORRIBLE AT DEFENDING - The strikers , wingers , etc are always FASTER than your defenders to contest or to win a ball - Defenders in FIFA get outrun big time , you gotta do some big outplay , while attackers can just go braindead - Due to you controlling only one player and not the other 10 players , their positioning AI is horrible, playing outside of the offside positioning - Moreover , defending in FIFA was never a thing , FIFA is all about attacking , with games having like 20+ shots with like 7-6 scorelines - I do feel like pretty RNG how defenders can be , you can always put them as "stay back while attacking" and yet somehow they become Harry Maguires 2.0
I’ve been reading all week about the Hungarian Golden Team that destroyed England and their WM formation in the 50’s, so this video was well timed
it’s not well timed this is all a simulation

You can also play WM as a 3-4-2-1 with both LF and RF on false 9

Stop bullshitting bruh
Fm works very well for tactics if you like that

Just noticed Pep did the Zona Mista against Nottingham Forest when he played halaand and Alverez
Please do more formations, maybe modern ones like how pep builds up in a 235 or a 3223

Xavi currently plays a variation of the WM formation at Barca & had previously used it at the last club he managed also.
Such an interesting and cool video. Thanks!
Cruyff 343 diamond. use 343 diamond on fifa but change LM and RM to CM's.
I used the tactical set up that you use on table football so a 2 5 3. And it actually kind of worked
great vid but can you explain more what instructions should be assigned to players in 2-7-2 Motta's tactic
Great video
You could look at the preston invincibles formation and tactics
That first one actually has some honest practical use in the modern game imo, with some slight tweaks. Now I'm hyped to see the rest.

What are the "tactics" for the Zona mista though?, you didn't show that
After seeing the tactics and how Zona-Mista works, I feel like Barca can try this in real life. They have the player suited to it.
The Zona Mista formation is some kind of 3-5-2 with a CAM ! I THINK SO
