Dookie wasn't underground punk. 1039/Soothed Out Slappy Hours and Kerplunk were. 1039 was my first cassette I ever bought in 7th grade, good god I am old. I'm happy kids have gotten to experience them and they made the RnR HOF next year. But, it's a shame that teens and 20 somethings didn't get the chance to experience when this band truly began to spread across the country. It was massive, I'll never forget the famous '94 "Mud Fight", that truly exploded them onto the upper echelon of rock at the time, and how excited I was when I saw them in Dallas on their Dookie tour, as well as how sad I was when I saw them in Dallas in a much smaller venue on their Warning tour, because anyone who's followed the band from the start can't honestly say that they did't have some thought that Warning would be their last album. There is so much history, and lore, ups and downs with this band well before American Idiot was even a thought in their minds. I'm grateful I got to experience it all. They were truly one of my "first bands" along with Nirvana, Oasis, Blur, Radiohead and Weezer. If your of a younger generation than I am, take the time and truly read some literature in their full history-it's so colorful. Continue to enjoy what they do, but most importantly, don't let go of the band you started with from their debut album. It'll pay off down the road when you get to act like the old man talking about being their at the beginning. Believe me when I heard that they were inducted into the HOF next year it truly made me aware of how quickly time moves, it feels like a month ago That I brought my Green Day cassette to show off in middle school. I was always told by older people that time will begin to fly as I got older, I never believed them until now, years go by like mere months now.
I really want to go too, but it seems like they never had a concert in my country.... I know I live in a small country, but I really want them to come here.

I'm 12 and I'm already a bassist and a vocalist and the main reason I got into music was because I was so heavily inspired and such a fan of green day, hell, I was raised on green day, they were my older sisters favourite band and we bonded over our love of music, without green day I would never have achieved anywhere close to what I have and I wouldn't be recording my first album next year with two other awesome musicians, Anyway, all I'm saying is, Green Day rocks!! Been following them since DAY-1, grew up to there music, been to a few of there later Shows, Irving Plaza, Giants Stadium, Atlantic City TAJ Mahal, and planned my first trip to Vegas around one of there shows with VIP. Now 40-years-old I still play there music almost daily it will never get old, my favorite band of all time, with Pearl Jam and Smashing Pumpkins coming in 2nd & 3rd.
