A little tire tip When you have new tires mounted, make sure they mount the red dot at the valve stem. This helps reduce or even eliminate tire weights. I have 5 Yokohama tires on aluminum buds for my airstream 190 and none needed weights. Red rules but if you only have yellow then they would be mounted at valve stem. Red indicates out of round and yellow indicates side to side out of balance thus using the tire stem as a weight itself.
Hats off to Robert, definitely a good guy and very mechanically inclined. Great to have a friend like him, if I was ever in the area I would love him to fix a few head aches I have in my motorhome. Great video!!
@@cynthiadickey3055 I really like how Robert does the solar, I’m thinking about adding solar to my rig this year and just might hit him up and see if he would be interested.
Back in the 90s a friend of mine and I cut the roof off his brand new Chevy S-10. We were putting a Targa top on and his dad walked into the garage when we were cutting the roof. His dad turned around and walked back int the house shaking his head. Big fun.
Cutting frame of a car = canot be legal anymore. Next time you inspect the car for an inspection, it wont pass. I Do not recomand doing this at all. The car was perfect blue and usefull. You are going to Regret it soon in aproxymatly a month. Enjoy it while you can. I have to say im amazed by all the pple thas tell you it was a great idea, maybe the RV comunity do not know much about mechanic. This would be a Decent Build for somone doing OFF ROAD ONLY.
If it's good for off-road, it'll be good for on road. Way more stress on it when ran off-road. If done right it'll be fine. In Texas they won't look at the frame mods. It will pass inspection.
Dip N Flick......😂💙 Damn....made the mistake of scrolling down looking at some nasty comments. I now remember why I don't do that anymore. Anyway...It's your life Eric. We are just along for the ride. We never quite know what's gonna be happening next. But that's the fun of it. Thanks for bringing us along.🐾🐾
Robert is talented enough to do work like that and put up with you too! He is really good!!! Lol! That's a lot of work but he looks right at home and as you said you're a good helper! Love the video!
It looks like the lift is coming along nicely. When it's done you can get to some of those out of the way places that have bad roads. Keep the good stuff coming.
Not a project you take on without the help of someone like Robert :-) . Glad to see you moving forward in life with all the changes taking place around you these days.
Hi Eric, this is going to be a great modification to the car, I love it. You may find that the increased tire circumference may throw off the optimized gear ratio that the car was built with, this might make it sluggish taking off, climbing hills, & on steep grades, hopefully it wont be too bad. I have say that you are lucky to have a friend like Robert, he seems like a real nice guy and a good mechanic, these two attributes is rare. I can`t wait to see the little car driving with the lift, take care guy`s!!
This was so interesting watching the Master at work, fun to see all the problem solving you guys are doing. We can't wait to see the finished product plus the sites and places around our hood!
It's you. It doesn't matter where you go, the rain follows you! hahahaha You can get an M12 1.5 lug nut that's a 17mm hex but the ones you have now are good too. You're seriously tempting me to get a smart car and lift it. Yours looks good! There's a turbo diesel one fore sale here for a decent price. I'm sure all the parts you bought to lift it plus the wheels and tires weren't exactly cheap though. Very excited to see it all complete and see how it drives!
Erik, it might look cool but you are going to have a combination of short wheelbase and legnth that will only add to your stiffness. You will loose horsepower and ride for a very wimpy car regardless. Why be a posuer? It may be in your nature but fight against it! Get a Wrangler. Just stop half stepping. You have certainly not i creaed it's functional abilities and have made it much more dangerous at speed, which it won't have much for long, unless you have vastly off set the wheels. You have traded a realitively safe though slow vehicle for something far more dangerous to drive with a much greater degree of lift throttle overstear. You must remember that understear is built into this car by the manufacturer. Now you have upset the balance. Drive it slower around curves and if you are turning at highway speeds and get a little yancy do not hit the brakes or lift off the throttle suddenly. You watch Nascar. Learn a few driving techniques. Let this be a posuer car. It may look nice but you have certainly lost function. Be careful. I know ma y will disagree but any automotive engineer will not. Let it be for slow go only. Be very careful about pushing it. I push everything so perhaps I am not a good judge here!
Must be ten years I have been following you. There really is wisdom in if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all. There are plenty of other creators where I can get culture wars BS dog whistles. Best of luck in your travels Eric.
Lifted vehicle may flat-tow differently on A-frame it will possibly make the steering "floaty-er". Remember to use large carabiner and I recommend a flat/webbing carabiner bungee style strap triangulated down below steering wheel to allow for range of motion on the steering wheel while under tow.
There's no frame on this vehicle. They're cutting into the uni-body right at the corner where the rigidity point is. Hope they can find an old school alignment shop that does custom camber/caster settings for modified rides. Toe-in/tow-out should still be pretty straight forward.

best thing about it is the car is now a "SMART MONSTER CAR", but really not so shocking about the height..about as tall as a standard pick-up truck...a ranger or a Toyota.
O'Rielly. They never have the part you need in stock. And if they say they do, it'll be the wrong one. Never going there again. Good luck with the lift. I think it'll look good when y'all are finished. Take care, and say hi to Robert.
LUG NUTS. Eric use the "spline drive tuner" locking lug nuts. I have to do it all the time on Dodge trucks and side by sides with aluminum wheels. Come in packs of 24. Most all parts store got em. I recommend trying advance on them first though . Derek here in Arkansas

Hey Eric! This whole project is way too much trouble and really not necessary!
I think you're going to find the smart car has too low horsepower to adequately push those larger tires.
The crankshaft torque is abysmal at best. The engine is doomed.
Thank goodness I didn't have to change beers. That lift kit seem a bit sketchy
Mmm. . .Margarita's - my favourite Mexican joint. I'm glad the lift project has turned out well.
