Cummins huh ?????? That is the yellowest Cummins/ looking 3406 I have ever seen. You pointed right to the fuel filter that said CAT on it, brain fart I'm sure. I know a guy that can turn that injection pump up for you, then she will put out about 500 horse, you'll really think it pulls hard then. Won't hurt her a bit. Put 976K on a 3406B that was putting out right at 500 horse from overhaul. That was the second rebuild, first time around we got 1.2 out of it. She just got tired and was using too much oil, that 379 had a little over 2 million on it when we sent her off to the wrecking yard. Should have kept that truck. It was a 93 glider and we had that 3406 B sitting around, so we built it right and stuck it in her. Ran great. Although the head gasket would start leaking about every 500K, and the water pump leaked annually. But we would put rod and main bearings in it every time the head gasket leaked, which got her over a million once and almost a million the second go around. The sleeper on my 2001 379 is identical, they sure didn't change them much. Even the color is the same. I like driving the 15 speed, not crazy about the jump between 9th and 10th, but I like the way they shift. One of our farm trucks has a 15 in it, and the deep reduction really helps getting it moving, and out of the softer fields. Nice 379, keep her on the road, let her smoke, and pass up the DEF pump. You'll be making money while the other guys are spending thousands, and sitting in the waiting room at the dealer getting a new sensor, or having some other expensive emission part replaced. Or they will be getting their ISX/ X-15 rebuilt prematurely because the rings stuck due to carbon build up, from having to breathe all that recirculated soot.
Rudedog S hello thanks for watching yeah I know I made a mistake I don’t have scripts when I make videos I just start talking I have no idea why I said Cummins that’s why I put that on the screen I wasn’t going to re shoot the video thanks for all the info
Ah , yeah I went back and looked, I didn't even see where you had put caterpiller on the screen. I knew it was a slip, just thought I would tease you a little. You keep that truck in very nice shape.
Good Stuff, had alota Peterbilts that i bought new, and I started looking for a 89 to 2000 model to redo and every one that was already a day cab i Could Not get comfortable in ( No Room ) . I realized all my past trucks had the straight steering column? So i put a Fat Boy Kit in the last two and kept the tilt wheel? I watched two videos today and both trucks had tilt wheel and its obvious why i need the Fat Boy Kit, Taking a day cab now and putting the big hole ring in and then putting the Fat Boy Kit in the bigger ring, Alot of work but building one to semi retire with and have room front to back and have some fun with, Hate change, love the Old School Look and the 425 Cats, Thanks for the Video and God Bless You!
What a beautiful rig you got there! I know you said the engine is a 425 Cummins, but it's actually a 425 HP Caterpillar 3406B 14.6L. My buddy had a 1990 Peterbilt 379 that I got to ride in and it had that engine, along with an 18 speed. And that truck sounded absolutely fantastic! If you still drive this rig, I'd love some super long driving videos of it with nothing but that 3406B purring along, and that jake brake! Now, only thing it needs is a set of straight pipes! Please let me know ASAP.
I admire how you guys in USA keep old piece of equipment reliable and operational on the road, here in Europe ,i'm not a truck driver but I know,we have pollution requiements that actually cut off old machines from been driven the road.We have also special device connected to the truck ecu and ecm that controll howm much you continuously drive per shift,I don't see any device like this on these old Pete.I think most of our tractors and freightliners on the road are actually max 10-15 years old,the older come from eastern Europe like Poland ,Hungary,Romania...I know you have brand new top class trucks but still I see really old piece of equipment, meaning 30 plus YO trucks, still in service while in Europe we have a quicker turn over...
The dislikes that people went for don't know true old school 10-4! Very beautiful with the Paint scheme and Windshields; Check that Right passenger tire buddy looks to be a little flat or maybe it's my eyes lol. Safe travels Brotha#Team379
Units working from 1989 are extremely rare in the UK i imagine there over there to nice colours i'v sat in a KW 900L but never a 379 that's one unit i'v always wanted to drive...
I'm still running a Fleet of Pre 1990 Kenworth and Peterbilt Trucks. All Maintained in Pristine Condition, 6 of my 23 T600's are exceeding 4 Million miles. And my Pete 359's get the most attention on the road.
That green thing aint the air conditioning lol. Thats the air compressor that builds all your air pressure. Your ac is above the alternator on the front right side of the motor
JayTrucker 62 yes I know I made a few mistakes I just hit record and start talking not sure why I blanked out so bad that day o wasn’t going to reshoot the video I’m not a pro
Do you have any tips for someone who wants to work as a driver ? I plan to own a truck of my own one day. Do you recommend getting an older truck ? Thank you :)
BrandonPryorMusic yes the extra bank of 5 gears are very low I use them when I back in somewhere so it creeps nice and slow. I don’t haul heavy equipment so I don’t need them to pull out Thanks for watching

They are iconic machine, we mostly have cab over here a part from some Volvo’s or dumpers... at Peterbuilt incredibly they still use the same design

All that truck needs is a new bumper and some more chrome
What's wrong with the bumper?
When he said Cummins I had to rewind. Thought that I just had a active Mandela effect. Then he corrected his mistake and normalcy was restored.
Was it hard finding a carrier with that age truck?
Hey Serg it’s a company that only has 1 tractor and 1 straight job local grocery store
I have a 1996 Pete and haul for anybody, never been ask about the age of the tractor, only the trailer when product is ice cream.
