For me the best moment in this video is when Tim is asked to sign the wall, and makes sure to leave space for his bandmates. That speaks volumes of his character and mindset. Every one of these guys could have great solo careers but they've built something beautiful TOGETHER and it was just lovely to see that it was instinctual for Tim to acknowledge the significance of that, in a moment where he could have easily not done so.
Agreed. To me, it's details like this that can show you who someone really is. Anyone can master a fake smile to put on for others, but when put on the spot to do something which could easily become self-centered, it takes humility to think of friends, family, and others who have gotten to that point with you
today is Sept 1 2022 and home free will get to sign the wall. we can't wait to see them.

This has to be the coolest Home Away From Home (sorry, Adam! Yours got pushed to #2. ☺️)! I can only imagine how Tim felt being there, especially after recording American Pie with Don. I think it would be really cool if Home Free had the opportunity to perform there one day!

I have a friend who was in a restaurant where Tim & his wife, Jenika were at another table, and he says when Tim was ordering the food, every woman within hearing distance turned to look to see who it was who it was ....not sure if its a true story or not, but it's certainly believable

I grew up 50 miles from The Surf. I was only three when that tragedy happened, but my parents went dancing there for many years. My best friend played saxophone with a swing band and they would go to see her sometimes. It's a wonderful place filled with history. Thanks for the tour, TIM.

This group is so amazing as they are basically great fans of the iconic songs they cover and the people who sang them originally. How special it is to be able to pay tribute to these artists in the best way possible. Home Free is meant to be doing what they are doing.

Thank you , Tim. I live in Alabama now, but I am originally from Mississippi. My Great Aunt and Uncle moved to that area after WORLD WAR 2. They were actually there in the ballroom getting down to BUDDY HOLLY, THE BIG BOPPER, and RICHEY VALENZ for that concert and dance. I remember all of my family being really upset, but I didn't quiet UNDERSTAND because I was very young. For the rest of their lives they continued to live in Texas. I still remember being so excited about what kind of gift they would bring me when they would come home (MISSISSIPPI) for a couple of weeks to visit every summer. THANKS TIM, for a little trip down memory lane!😉😂😷😎

I turned 1 year old on the day the music died in 1959, so I am reminded every year on my birthday of the significance of this day. Props to Home Free (+ I am a huge fan) for making this video and their music. You guys are inspiring.

OMG! I could feel the same thing Tim was feeling, while standing on that iconic stage and looking out to where the audiences from the past once witnessed the history in the making. So many famous artists have come through there. I don't know about Tim, but that gave me the chills. I remember that sad day when that plane crashed, just like it was yesterday. Thank you to Tim, and Home Free for taking us on that journey with him. What an amazing gift!

yep so glad they are extra careful. Their voices & lungs are their moneymakers, and we have heard of the resperatory problems that covid causes

I would love to see more of these stage tours! I find it fascinating - the history, the musicians, all those backstage moments an audience never sees.
Born and raised in Iowa. February can be brutal! We were always glad it is the shortest month of the year!

I've been there! My mother went to concerts there before it burned down. I also own a piece of the original flooring. I've been to their crash site too. So cool to see you bringing this to light! Love ya Tim!
There is a venue in Indianapolis called the Indiana Roof Ballroom. It is on the sixth floor. All the big bands played there in the 40s. Backstage there is an old stage door behind plexiglass with autographs of some of the big band members, and the ratings that the backstage crew gave each band on their performance. The dance floor is oak and the boards are bent because the room is round. A very beautiful place to dance.

I visited the Surf Ballroom during a family reunioni in 2019, and I remember going through and just running into so much history around every corner. History I hadn't really cared about until that moment.
I was born and raised in Mason City and my best friend lived in Clear lake. I've been to the Surf ballroom many times in my life. So many memories and history in that building.
What an amazing tour of a truely legendary local. I'm surprised that it wasn't mentioned that Waylon was supposed to be on that plane on that fatal day, but didn't get on.... and he came back and signed that wall.
I'm 71 and remember my aunts talking about going to the Surf in the 40's & early 50"s. Hadn't thought about it until this video.

What a treat! Thank you for sharing this experience with us! My father was a musician and I grew up knowing the "day the music died" and the story. I've never seen The Surf...your words of "surreal" really does come to mind! Did she say the last two Presidents signed it? I have to watch that again..,wonder which two?

If you guys ever play the Surf, I will be one of the first in line for a ticket. I just recently discovered you guys on here and I am blown away by your group's awesome talent. It brings back memories of my younger days when I was part of a small garage band dreaming of making it in music. I guess watching your videos I have gotten to live a bit of that out vicariously thru you. So from Osage Iowa, just know your band is on my bucket list of have to see groups. I grew up in Iowa. And to this day I have driven by The Surf but have yet to go inside. On my bucket list as I live in Colorado for 31 years.

One year for my Birthday my friends bought a memorial brick for me there. I really ought to travel to go see it. I toured it before the official paperwork was signed for my brick but I haven't been back since.

I've been to Clear Lake many times as I have relatives in the Algona/Fenton area where my dad grew up. It would be awesome to see a video made at the "Grotto of the Redemption" in West Bend, Iowa. Such a beautiful setting for Home Free to record.
