its even simpler than going to 1 kt and multiplying up…. 10kt is 10/24, 14kt is 14/24, 16kt is 16/24. why do 1/24 x its karat? just divide its karat by 24 much more simple

@@SilverSeeker if the weight is 8 grams, on a 14 Carrot ring how much I would get paid if the Gold spot price as of today is $80.14 per gram?
Find out what it weighs, then multiply the weight by the spot price to get the scrap value. Then you can sell it higher, depending on the brand name, style, condition.
That is what I do. I weigh it then I go on line to find out the price of that Karat gold and multiply the grams for that price. Then I add a higher price according to the item.

Yeah you forgot to mention the labor charge also known as making price so for the 10 k ring yes the gold price is $180.00 plus you have to ad the labor so depending on the brand o the jewelry because it costs to make this!!!!
agreed, but when someone sells you a peace of art, they charge you more than the paint and canvas. But in the future if no one knows the artiest does that make it worth more or less than it's original selling price? I have seen art sell at a garage sale for $5 dollars, but when it was new it was over $100.

You can remove a step by just dividing your karat level by 24 (instead of 1/24 x karat)

Just one question, is the water displacement density test always 100% safe and correct??
I would not think so, especially with anything 24k, as tungsten has an almost identical density to gold.

I have a question. Maybe a silly one but when testing for gold, does anybody know if there's a time limit? My gold test left a solid and undisturbed deposit for about 5 seconds, then it slowly begins fading. Not completely though. Anybody who can answer?

Funny this gold buying place said my 24k certified jewelry could not be bought for spot. Guess they dont know what 24k means or were hoping I didnt know what it meant.
Most shops will not pay spot for gold jewelry. They usually have to melt it down and turn it into something else which has costs. When I sell I usually expect around 80% of melt.
Bringing it down to 1k does make it easy enough so that when you're at a garage sale then you can do the math pretty quickly in your head!!

If you are getting into gold refining should you pay over spot for karat gold? I try to offer spot to people on facebook market place or other online market places and people often get quite offended.

The way I do it is 1730 ×95%×41.7÷20 = that will give me dwt price
I use DWT alot also but out of sheer curiosity what is the 95% for?
You can’t just go on gram price tho because this is not a blob on gold it’s had workmanship go into it
Unless you sell at scrap value then it’s not at the price on the day per ounce
Most of this stuff just gets melted down my friend

American Gold Eagles are 22k, so why do they cost like they are 24k??
That's because they contain 1 troy oz of gold. If you you weight them you will see they weigh over 1 troy oz. 33.931g or 1.0909 troy ounces.

Now go to a pawn shop or gold buying place and tell them you worked it out and it's worth $187.00 meaning it has $187.00 worth of gold in there, but the shop has to melt it and refine it and that cost money so you are not getting $187.00
Generally the shops I deal with pay me around 90% or so (give or take a point or two depending on how much I have, the current market etc). So if I had $187 worth I would expect between $165 and $170
@@SilverSeeker yes, you don't mind taking a bit off but not too much, as you know they never refine 1 thing. My father left me a 14k rope chain that I took in just to see what the pawn shop in Detroit, it was worth $697 in gold at the time and he offered me $500. I said that's ok I will keep it. I paid him to shorten it from a 24” to 18” and made a bracelet for my wife outta the rest. That way I wear it all the time now.
@@Jbmc65 Yea that's a bit too little, a $600 offer would have been more fair from a pawn shop TBH. I generally deal with coin shops that do alot of volume so they have the ability to pay more because they move it out faster.
Well if gold should ever go up to 5 thousand/$5,000 dollars per pound or even 10 grand per ounce, and I manage to accumulate 30 ounces worth of gold, I'll be set for retirement.

It would be best to take it a karet back because 10k is 9.5k, 14k = 13.5k, and 18k = 17.5k unless the letter is p behind the karet, meaning Plum and not plated. I know a little confusing, lol you'll see the letter P on ancient pieces, and in the later years, they switch to the whole number because people were getting confused, but it is always a karet back unless the P behind it, but still test it on a stone with some nitric acid

This is more how to determine the scrap value of your gold. Not how to price it. Wouldn’t there be more factors to consider when pricing other than spot value?
Spot price is just a starting place. You should not take less than spot after watching this video. Now with that said some jewelry is like art, depending on who made it, you must take that into effect. When you and the buyer know who made it and does that make it worth more as a art peace added to the value.
