So relatable. I've actually had some ideas for a 'mon style series as well, and have just been drawing my first designs. I recall planning on drawing a pig-like creature shortly before lechonk was announced, then feeling daunted having a pokémon design I'd now also have to try to distinguish it from. I'll definitely say the anxiety of knowing you could be beat to an idea sure isn't pleasant. Not only that, but one of the designs I'd had planned was, get this, a bread bird. I get attached to ideas, so I might not jump to scrap it entirely after seeing this video, but I'm hoping it'll come out being its own thing, distinct from yours, if it ever does. I mean ideally, I think it ought to be understandable that there will be overlaps between franchises - I'm sure there are plenty of comparisons that can be made between certain pokémon and certain digimon (I definitely recall a digimon existing that maractus has always come off as a dead ringer for), and that's not due to unoriginality so much as there being concepts which will inevitably be repeated. It'd be nice if people remembered that instead of pointing the copycat finger at everything that reminds them of something else. Granted that is harder to do when one of them is world-famous, making it hard to believe it didn't have a direct influence, but still, I personally find myself thinking the original court decision that another fighting game's hadouken-esque move wasn't actually copying Street Fighter because a blast from the hands isn't a concept anyone owns was more sensible than the later court decision that if a judge can find a comparison of two things online, an infringement charge is valid.
An idea I had wrt the mint and pepper Pokémon just now: Since they only *feel* like those types, I would have made them Something like Grass/Poison and give them abilities that makes their STAB moves add the simulated type. So for instance the menthol one, it’s grass-type moves for the sake of weakness and resistance are treated as “grass/ice” (similar to Hawlucha’s signature move which is both fighting and flying)
I love labsire, the inspiration makes total sense. If you want to keep ip on your region, i think changing the name and removing the wooper pre evolution, it could still be a cool single stage mon. I think it looks different enough from quagsire and wooper.
Are you planning to have a mon similar to ditto in the sense that it copies other mons? (And in the sense that its very useful for filling the dex) Im not super into stem like I was when I was a kid but I feel like having a mon that can replicate another mon could be somewhere in the stem field. I love your region and I cant wait to see more!! ❤
I really like your vids! It has inspired me to at least make a concept for a monster catcher game based on geology, especially rocks and minerals, GeoMon! Because I have a special interest in rocks and minerals, I thought I'd put that knowledge to work!
There’s another plant that I think would work, just as well as a fire grass type for inspiration as a Pokémon, compared to a pepper. Those giant invasive hog weeds they’ve are all over New York. And the sap causes third-degree burns. the fire carrot Pokémon just imagine that. There’s an old sci show video about the hog weed. If you want to find out about it, I know all about.
Scarlett and Violent feels like a fangame anyways, and also the similarities ain't too noticeable(for me at least). Your art style is also different and cute.
I created a Mr Mime baby form that was nearly identical to Mime Jr except mine had two tufts of hair and no nose. Also I created a Pokémon called Leafeon that evolved from Eevee that was also almost identical with mine having a completely rounded smooth edge leaf on the tail and a darker green and no head Leaf. I made these during Gold and Silver’s popularity and before Gen 3 was announced.
Personally, for a grass/fire Pokémon, I always wanted to make a sunflower (get it?) for an easy one but, my REAL idea was of a peat moss Pokémon! Because peat moss (at least a certain type) *explode* to spread their seeds. Explosions can be firey. It’s not too far off.
It's very funny because before Scarlet and Violet came out, I had an idea for a Mexican and Brazil region that also featured a dolphin with rings on it, a, Flamingo that was also a flying fighting type, and a story about befriending the legendary Pokemon with one also lizard like and feathers because it was based off of Quetzalcoatl. Though a lot diverged from it. The flamingo Pokemon I had in mind was based on the flamenco dance and had the punny name of Flaminco whereas the flamingo Pokemon in Scarlet also has a Spanish inspired name of Flamigo. My dolphin was a water psychic type, not a pure water type. Though the game does have a water psychic type in the annoying piranhas that is Veluza!! And unlike Finizen, I didn't plan for Ringphin to evolve. Meanwhile Koraidon is more of a dinosaur. Arcoatl, meanwhile, has colorful plumage but is a snake. Mainly because the theme was rainbow and monochrome rather than scarlet and violet with the themes of tradition vs progression. Now that I think about it, It does have the accidental past and future vibe. Meanwhile, while the region of Paldea is not based on Mexico and/or Brazil, It is based in Spain.
This has also happened with me, I made past and future forms of pokemon in 2020 I don't have much proof other than the date. But I love that it's not only me who have had ideas "used" by gamefreak
The wooper looks sufficiently different from wooper to be its own character imo

So for instance the menthol one, it’s grass-type moves for the sake of weakness and resistance are treated as “grass/ice” (similar to Hawlucha’s signature move which is both fighting and flying)
I love labsire, the inspiration makes total sense. If you want to keep ip on your region, i think changing the name and removing the wooper pre evolution, it could still be a cool single stage mon. I think it looks different enough from quagsire and wooper.
Minter having a signature gras smove that has a chance to freeze would be pretty cool
LOOKING FORWARD FOR THIS GAME!
That wooper is so cool! I hope you can redesign and rename it because giving that up would be such a shame
The name origin for nORtist is so sweet I’m dead
What does the region actually look like?
I’m looking forward seeing the full dex (whenever that happens)
Now I’m imagining Capsol as a Physical attacker and Minter is a Special attacker.
this is really inspirational. creating weighs heavy on the soul. i find solace in your words.
axolotls are my favorite animal and i love when people give them love with pokemon
I love your lineless style
Your game is gonna be amazing with a lineless style :)
this video slays bruh. 10/10 ideas and opinions on art
that "emoji" style quagsire is soooo beautiful
This whole video screams science nerd and Pokémon fan! I love it!
I really like your vids! It has inspired me to at least make a concept for a monster catcher game based on geology, especially rocks and minerals, GeoMon! Because I have a special interest in rocks and minerals, I thought I'd put that knowledge to work!
This is a cool concept for a region!
This video was such a vibe!!
Awsome Vid, I can't wait for this game!
Oh my god, Labsire is actually adorable! 😍
I wish it was official because goddamnit, you made an actual cinnamon roll out of a cinnamon roll.
I really hope one day you'll be able to make your own pokemon-style game so that i'll be able to acquire it and play it, good luck!
oh my god your fakemon are so so cute! i love fakemons so much; its so cool to see them!
The fact I came up with the idea of a region based off Spain back in _2016_ then now we have an official region that's based off spain is unreal
All your designs are better than the ones we got imo
I love the mallard reaction 😉
Scarlett and Violent feels like a fangame anyways, and also the similarities ain't too noticeable(for me at least). Your art style is also different and cute.
Great vid norton
But I love that it's not only me who have had ideas "used" by gamefreak
omg i love this channel so much :D
I know a type swap gimmick was coming but I made a type swap system for my fakemon region and I was sad and happy when they introduced tarastalization
Please keep malloaf around he is a bread duck and my serotonin.
