I´m 48 and not particulary proud to say, that for the most of my life I simply haven´t paid enough attention to Bowie´s work. However, I´m about to catch up on a number of pieces and I like your reactions to Bowie songs. And hey, "Starman" is such a great sing-along-song. I particulary love the transition from the first chorus to the second verse. That´s just brilliantly done and the bass went along just beautifully.

Space Oddity and Ashes to Ashes are actually the first two thirds of a trilogy if songs, with the third being Hallo Spaceboy off of 1. Outside from 95. The live version on Howard Stern is a good choice if you prefer.

"The title of this album was inspired by a recording made in Surrey, England during the Second World War, by an ornithologist intending to record Nightingales. The bombers flew over at the same time and were recorded by accident. The recording has been incorporated in 'As Above, So Below'". - Manfred Mann 1975[3] (In fact, the recording was made on May 1942 by a BBC sound engineer for the BBC. Intending to capture the nightingale's song he also, by accident, recorded the sound of RAF bombers on their way to attack Mannheim, Germany.)

Wait wait wait!!!! this ended before the fantastic lead guitar work at the end by Mick Ronson!!(and even that faded way too soon in my opinion). there oughta be a law !!!! ;O). ronson also did the string arrangements here. great song, but better when taken in context with the entire 'ziggy stardust' album. this song was also used in the movie 'the martian'....in it's entirety....
