Feels like I'm watching Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy :)

Yep, this is like the chapter of the guide that would have followed the title "Mostly Harmless"... Those pesky lazy bloody unimaginative alien publishing companies! :) You will not believe how many comments there are right now, Scott.

That was my immediate thought. I think someone was watching that film before making this animation...

Fry makes any topic interesting, such a good narrator

I can listen to pretty much anything if it's narrated by Stephen Fry.

This is best explanation of origins of DST that I have seen.

I would love to Stay on Daylight savings year round because I don’t get up early and I really have it be light in the evenings

If you don’t get up early why do you want permanent DST
DST doesn’t give you more daylight instead you start your day earlier
If you normally wake up at 9am instead wake up at 8am and that’s what DST does to everyone else
Leave the clock on standard time and get up an hour earlier yourself if you like DST

I agree with comedian John Oliver. We should drop British Summer Time and stick with GMT all year round.

But how can we all be in agreement if we all live in different parts of the world? My country (Chile) just chose to stick with the summer time and we are not going to move our clocks or watches anymore. I really hate it because we are just beginning Autumn and the mornings are a bit cold and dark but then, the evenings are still hot and with daylight at 7 PM.

Daylight savings do help with saving energy but research shows that there are more traffic accidents and less awareness when we leap forward an hour. I think we should just leave the clocks as it were

    • @starknight103
      @starknight103 2 ปีที่แล้ว

According to CGP Grey, the energy saved by DST at best is negligible, only saving a few dollars.

If I need a laugh I always think of Australia, and how some states have daylight saving and some don't... Which is bad enough, except those that do change their clocks don't even do it on the same day ! With all that fuss and several time zones in the country, imagine the hassle of figuring out time differences.

I think it's a daft outdated (if ever in date) tradition. Though as I don't sleep anyhow, I'm not one that's bothered by it.
I'd prefer to say in BST(daylight saving) all year, and have it go darker that hour later.
Also its ironic, that DST (daylight savings time) , is actually in the summer when we have the most of it. For years I always thought The DST was for the winter, and BST (British summer time) was the same as GMT (Greenwich mean time) not realising GMT was the winter, and BST and DST was the same thing.
So yea is all a bit daft and unneeded. Not to mention confusing.

@TheNigmaticProdigy Well they tried to change it back but things didn't go so well. (Think it was in the 70s?)

Daylight Saving Time is obsolete... We have come a long way since tickers and candles... we have digital watches and LED Lighting so bright the birds stay up late too.

in our modern 24 hour world, ''daylight savings'' makes no sense.....when you can buy, sell, eat, sleep, drink, travel and just sit at your computer and do it all any hour of the day, we'ver really grown past DST. let's just keep it standard time across the planet

How does getting up earlier save? is beyond me . Uses more. I don't go by it unless I go to church they have it hour early get home hour early. They run the clock up and pretend it's an hour later. You are not getting your extra hour.

Why can't the people of Earth just agree to set the time half an hour in between and be done with all this clock changing non-sense twice a year?

    • @leeannhansen4466

Because during the last Bush Administration, when Congress had to pass an energy bill, they were criticized for putting together one that gave away everything to Big Energy, and they knew they needed to give a sop to the other side. So they extended Daylight Savings Time three weeks in each direction and claimed it was energy conservation.
