    Finally someone who does accept the re320 to sound better than re20 for voice

      I think it all comes down to preference personally (but the RE320 is a beast in my opinion).

      Opinions. Everyone has them. There would be one mic for all of us to use if we all wanted the same sound. Glad you like the 320. I prefer the re20.

    I agree, I tend to prefer the RE320 to the RE20's sound. I have used the RE320 for years.

      I think it just depends on your voice. Similar in design, so it's just choosing the right one for your tones.

    I've tried a number of mics. Shure sm7b heil pr 40, heil pr35, heil pr37, telefunken m80, electrovoice Re27 nd and 320. My favorites are the heil pr 37 & 35 and the electrovoice Re320. All others I sent back.
    I deffinetely could not stand the shure sm7b the electrovoice Re27 or the heil pr40.

    Are there any specific programs that I have to use with the RE320? I have an offbrand audio interface that im gonna be upgrading to a better quality one but whenever i shut down all my audio applications, my mic sounds horrible just by itself, its super loud and screechy etc and its not clear at all with the audio.

    I wasn't going to buy the re20 but when I heard the re320, it pulled me across the line. It's a great sounding mic which still carries the legend of the re20. As far as the SM7B, I find that it sounds more like a stage mic at times, like the SM58. I know they're very similar. Certainly, any of those three mics, especially the 7B and the Re320 would be welcome in my studio, but I chose the re320 over the 7B because it sounds more open and alive to me. I also love the proximity effect it has. You don't have to stay on it as much, and I would have thought that podcasters would need that for guests who have little mic experience and tend to wonder off axis. Lastly, I think that the 7B carries a bit of a viral reputation. I feel like a lot of people just choose it because it's very recognizable and trendy, and gathers bragging rights. It's just the "cool" mic to have. Certainly, the less expensive re320 sounds just as good, if not better, but is larger, less distinct looking and less trendy. I'm almost at the point of cringing when I see the SM7B because of that. Furthermore, It sounds like a lot of people don't have it gained properly, so they're right up on it, and again that makes it sound like a stage mic.

    As an American, I agree about our taste for the RE20. For a late-night AOR radio DJ it's perfect, and as you say, for a radio host you can go with a more aggressive sound -- in the case of the RE20, that bassy, slightly muffled sound.

    • @Radiodotco
      @Radiodotco  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly! But it's all about preference and what you expect to hear though as well.

    I actually think you forgot to switch between the mics in the comparison because they sound identical there. Before in the video you heard the big difference, the sparkly quite dynamic vibe of the Re320 compared to the quite monotunous and kind sound of the sm7b.

  • @NerdologyUK

    My voice can be a bit nasal and I find the SM7b is more flattering with the way I sound when using it.

    I actually think YOU sound better on the lapel mic you used at the beginning of this. The SM-7B has too much proximity effect and needs a pop filter in addition to the windscreen. The RE-320 sounds tinny and weak, but the proximity effect is controlled better. I have used an RE-20 for decades, in both radio and (mostly) a narrator's booth, and love it. I tried the 7B several times, and like it for some alto female voices. I like the RE-27 for quiet people with muffled voices. I like the RE-320 for deep bass voices. But as an all-around flat vocal mic that gives you an honest response, it is hard to beat the RE-20. Of course, with judicious EQ and compression, they can be made to work with just about any voice.

    • @garystackhouse5787
      @garystackhouse5787 ปีที่แล้ว

      We’ll, to be fair, “with judicious EQ and compression “, pretty much ANY decent mic can be tailored to any voice.

    The more I listen to these broadcast setups, especially the SM7B, the more I dislike the sound. It is so nasally and sounds like you a putting a blanket over the mic. I prefer the more airy, brighter tone of the RE320 but that might also be too nasally for me.
