I’m 12, and I enjoy writing short stories. I showed some of them to my ELA teacher, and she said that I should try self publishing, so this video helped a lot! Thank you! Edit: I’m sorry to everybody who’s been waiting for me to say that I’ve published, but I’m a really slow writer. I’ve decided to not go with the short story from school, and instead write a completely new book. This one won’t be a short story, it will be an average size book, so that is another reason why it is taking me so long to finish writing. I’m currently only 7 chapters into writing it, so this might take a little while. Also, thank you to everyone who has commented! It means a lot, and I wish you all luck. Edit 2: as I’m a pretty indecisive person, I just ditched that book and started writing a new one a couple days ago because I lost interest in the original. I’m currently a chapter and a half into this one, so we’ll see how far this goes. Sorry to keep everyone waiting for so long

Hey, Mandi! I left TH-cam on autoplay and listened in on this tutorial. Nice job! At 16:34, you mention the ISBN and Publisher spot for ebooks. Did you know you could enter a publishing name and it'll replace the "Independently published" tag? Just a random fact. Now you can add Stone Ridge Books to your listing. I'm not sure it'll give you any huge benefit other than impressing the one random person who pays attention to imprints of ebooks.

Amazon KDP scammed me out of nearly $4000 dollars. They never provided the media promotion that I spent thousands on because Amazon did not accept my book and they knew Amazon did not accept my book. They weren't done they tried to scam me for $1100. to get a copyright that only costs $125. It was all scam.

After nearly two years of work, I am finally ready to publish my very first book, The Mindoryx Protecsy. I'm twelve, and I've been writing stories since kindergarten. I am so thrilled to be able to have this opportunity to share my passion with the world and hopefully be able to inspire other kids as well. Thank you for this video, it was extremely helpful in teaching me how to publish my book.

I published with KDP and ordered Author paperback and hardback copies to help promote the Novel. I had to reorder three times, and still, the box of books arrived with absolutely no packaging inside each time. Every book was floating in the mailing box and damaged. It happened three times. There is no way of contacting KDP with photographs of the damaged package and the damaged books. All I could do was return the books. So, I then published the novel with Draft2Digital. Their author copies arrived in tightly packaged boxes and in mint condition. Their printing is also quite superior to KDP - and they publish to many different outlets - including Amazon. Will I ever use KDP as my primary publisher and printer again - not likely! The last box of books I had to return forced me to cancel a full-on pre-booked promotion and left me with seriously diminished credibility. I trusted Amazon - they let me down big time. They cost me real income and a decent promotion and credibilty.

I want the easy process of kdp to publish my book (or LuLu for the ease as well) but you mentioned in this series I can use LuLu to make my book available for sale on my own site. Selling my book on my own site is ideal for me! Please upload a vid on the steps to upload to my own site; with the legal concern/steps to sell also on kdp or use of KDP or LuLu to build my book. My main concern is that my book is written to help finance a HUGE goal I have for the mid-term future. The sales need to be substantial at 12.13 per copy. Any of your Awesome advice to do this is greatly appreciated. Keep up the Magnificent Work!

I uploaded 2 books to KDP in early December of 2023. They were held in "review" until early March when they both showed the were both in "draft". I made the minor corrections requested on one of them and the other book actually requested no changes. It's almost April now and both books are languishing in "review" again! KDP offers no explanation for this delay and they have sent me almost 15 emails saying they don't know why it's taking so long. Oh!...in early December I uploaded the exact same files to Barnes and Noble and both books went straight to print...I have them right here and they look fine to me. In the most recent conversation with KDP, I was told it's a world-wide problem with the review process. I tend to doubt that.
it actually is a worldwide problem. we are also facing same. so many book bans and blocked accounts as well. however there are things you must do when publishing on amazon kdp to avoid occurences like this. wish you the best of luck.

I will say I tried kotobee and it crashed many times and pissed me off when it would not save my book. Tell them it was not a good enough experience to pay them 150 buck up front without very good results. Otherwise Thanks for the help.

Hi Mandi Lynn, You so graciously responded to a previous message from me regarding self-publishing and LLCs. New quick question: I'm trying to determine the dimensions for my book cover, spine, backcover. My novel is 106K, and I think its roughly 350 pages, but I'm trying to use KDPs template to determine book length. Do I use 12 point Times New Roman font and doublespace it? Also, since I'm self-publishing, my interior title page will include title, my name, and publisher. Do I use IngramSpark and AMAZON KDP as my Publisher? Also, I plan to get a self-proprietor license for my imprint... since I don't have an LLC yet.

Personally, I have cracked Ancient Egypt and so far have 126,000 words to prove it. I need assistance ASAP to publish it. I am uneducated in every degree and have never read a book in my life. I have written this work over a nine-month period and am well aware that this should be impossible for me to do it. Nevertheless, I have and need help rapid!

I just have a few questions. 1) Does the option of "expanded distribution" only apply to paperback/hardback books? I want to switch this off because I will being going wide. 2) I notice when you were uploading your wraparound book cover, you had the front cover on the right hand side and back cover on the left. You can upload your book as multiple formats, but each upload process is done separately.

Yeah, it's frustrating. There are videos out there that talk about the problems and how to fix them. Haven't found the perfect one yet.

Hi Mandi Lynn, You so graciously responded to a previous message from me regarding self-publishing and LLCs. New quick question: I'm trying to determine the dimensions for my book cover, spine, backcover. My novel is 106K, and I think its roughly 350 pages, but I'm trying to use KDPs template to determine book length. Do I use 12 point Times New Roman font and doublespace it? Also, since I'm self-publishing, my interior title page will include title, my name, and publisher. Do I use IngramSpark and AMAZON KDP as my Publisher? Also, I plan to get a self-proprietor license for my imprint... since I don't have an LLC yet.

This video is super helpful! The only issue I’m having is that some of my pages, (table of contents, copyright, about author), wasn’t added. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! 😊
You have to add those pages in manually when you're formatting the book before you upload to KDP

Your video's are super helpful! Is there a way to do a pre-release of your book through Kindle? I'd like to allow friends and family to read and review the book before I release it so I'm not just tossing it out there just hoping it does well through categories and keywords. Thanks!
Personally, I have cracked Ancient Egypt and so far have 126,000 words to prove it. I need assistance ASAP to publish it. I am uneducated in every degree and have never read a book in my life. I have written this work over a nine-month period and am well aware that this should be impossible for me to do it. Nevertheless, I have and need help rapid!

Thanks Mandi for the great tutorial. Soon I will be uploading my book for the first time so this is a very timely video. I just have a few questions.
1) Does the option of "expanded distribution" only apply to paperback/hardback books? I want to switch this off because I will being going wide.
2) I notice when you were uploading your wraparound book cover, you had the front cover on the right hand side and back cover on the left. Is this how KDP takes their covers? I ask this because I've downloaded a KDP template and just want to make sure I have everything done correctly when saving it as a PDF.
