I worked at IKEA for two years and here’s my horror story: Once I was cleaning in my department and as I was making a bed, someone walking through did a little poop in their pants and rolled it out of their pant leg! Onto the floor! It was even caught on camera!

I think they actually screw a plastic plate on it now that says this toilet is just for display and not for use and that you should go to the designated toilets in the gallery for that purpose

im currently working in shopping experience in IKEA meaning we have to mend the smaland (play area) and this child was fairly small (2 years old +) She was whimpering so i knelt and I asked if she was okay and she PROJECTILE VOMITTED ON ME , like vomit was IN MY SHIRT , all over.
the dad shouted at us asking why we ALLOWED her vomit .....

So my IKEA story happened when I was 13. Me and my mom were looking at display sinks and at a particular dual vanity sink I stuck my finger down the sinks drain. When I tried to take my finger out it would not come out. This was because I had acrylic nails that were preventing my finger from coming out. 40 minutes later and 4 IKEA workers later I got out. It only took a tube of eye lube dumped down the drain, the sink being taken partially apart, and cutting the sinks plastic pipe holder. The fire department was almost called and I was mortified. In the end all was well my mom signed some papers promising not to sue and we got free ice cream.

My working at Ikea Horror stories:
1 - We had a major issue at our particular location with people having sex in the beds. It turns out there was a few local couples that were suuuuper into exhibitionism and would come to this location to have sex.
2 - Boxing day (I'm Canadian) is a big sale day in Canada. Think black friday. So there's normally a couple door crashers. The door crasher this year was some computer desk for $50... regularly $125 (mainly because it was a weird colour that didn't sell) I drove a forklift at ikea, and spent the morning unloading a full truck of these. Couldn't even fit them on the floor. Which is the case with most of the door crashers. A couple of guys got into a fist fight over their place in line, with the police coming and arresting them. The worst part: We had most of the door crashers for like over a week after. So they went to jail for something that they could have came in a week later and still gotten.
3 - My first day there, the staff was getting chewed out, because the day before someone wheeled about 8 carts worth of stuff (Including mattresses, a couch crap like that) just out the front door past all the cashiers. Nobody said anything...

Ahaha these stories made me laugh. I work in a DIY store and get this all the time. Some people just have no patience and are rude. They ask to speak to a manager or supervisor only to be told the exact same thing we explained to them. 🙄🤦🏾♀️😂😂. The best part is when you give them the mmmhhh I told you so look .

I use to work at IKEA ppl r crazy ! I’ve had customers yell at me, try to fight me, but the most common is when customers get mad about the lines!! There’s nothing we can do just chill out

As an IKEA coworker. No. 1 golden rule for all IKEA coworkers is NEVER DO KITCHEN ORDERS. Kitchens is a complex department that offers one-on-one services with customers with specialized coworkers. Its also IKEA's biggest selling departments and people come out of there paying THOUSANDS of dollars worth of orders. That's why when a customer approaches me asks a kitchen question you bet your cute little ass Im directing them to kitchens, no questions asked.

I used to work at the self service warehouse at IKEA. My weirdest customer was the one that tried to climb up the shelves to get a Pax wardrobe from the top shelf. Turned out it was the only one left and since it was inaccessible without a reach truck, we couldn't sell it. Generally "spare" stock isn't placed on the shelves above the normal position in the warehouse to prevent this, so the lady scoured the giant self service warehouse to find it.
Never bored of Denzel. So entertaining!!!

I’ve been to Ikea once. Couldn’t believe how complicated it was. The biggest store I’d been to only had three floors, and that was amazing to me. I’ve gotten lost in a mall that only had two floors.
People of Walmart may finally have some competition!
I worked customer service at ikea and I would NEVER even dare try to mess with the app to build furniture piece by piece, everytime I got a customer that needed a change of size, I would give them their money back and then take them myself to the kitchen or closet section so they get their order properly assembled by someone trained to do that, I'm still being nice to them by taking the time to take them across the entire store through every shortcut so they don't get lost, and I know I will save them time if I take them straight to someone who knows how to do it, customer service isn't trained for that but we do get trained on who knows how to do everything so you can take customers where they can be properly served

If you're ever thinking about working in customer service even a little bit, don't! If I had a dollar for every time a customer asked me why I couldn't process a return with no receipt, no other proof of purchase and no tags to indicate it was purchased at our store, I would have stopped working retail a long time ago.
"Hey, can we not do this?" Lmao I wish I could have said that to so many customers.
