Marek Eben is one of the best interviewers I know, and I have the benefit of being czech, so I know many of his other interviews. He did one with people like John Cleese, Danny Devito, Terry Gilliam and many more. Btw, he is musician himself, he has a band with his brothers.
I kinda drifted away from bluegrass after my heroes like Bill Monroe and Doc Watson passed. I had never heard this guy, but Michael Cleveland is my new hero!
Michael, Sir. I had the extreme pleasure and privilege of seeing y'all perform on stage at the Tennessee Fall Homecoming Festival at the Museum of Appalachia in Norris, Tennessee. Wishing you the best and many blessings. I am heartbroken that after nearly three and a half decades, since John Rice Irwin started the festival, it has been permanently cancelled. Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful talents and spreading so much joy. God bless.
I’ve always been interested in learning about the fiddle he always plays (the one he’s playing here) And lucky for me, he tells part of the story here :D
Those little plucks he gives the fiddle here and there are awesome. I don't know if that's a common thing among fiddlers or just a classy little tic of his. Michael Cleveland is a legend
hah...some language barriers..but the ultimate answer was silence and application of the abused bow to the abused fiddle. I need to invest in his rosin company.
Mr Cleveland, I think you might like to try a spot of METALICA . I KNOW, I'd like to near you play BATTERY, or most anything from master of puppets What do ya think? if you like to play fast ... wellllllll you gotta try it. cfvp
I heard him do a orange blossom special and OBS kinda got "lost" in his "variations" where it is a hodge podge of a bunch of songs..... And there was a few bars of Metallica mixed in :) with a guy in the post saying "he is playing THIS ONE SONG" whatever "name" he was saying it was..... I was like ok..... this is a "song" with SEVERAL songs in it, even METALLICA....... "OH NO, HE IS PLAYING whatever song he said" LOL!!!!! you can clearly hear the bars of Metallica he threw into the mix of a bunch of stuff that was supposed to be OBS lol
Na plovarne is a popular czech show with Marek Eben. He doew interviews with all kind of people, usually when they are in Czech republic on tour or visiting. He has done great interviews with John Cleese, Boby McFerrin, Miloš Forman, Terry Gilliam, Christopher Lee and hundereds of others. Lol how is this guy interviewing mike and doesnt know what a viola is... I know nothing about bluegrass but know what a viola is from middle school band lol...
He knows what viola is, he plays on several instruments and his father was a composer. It was just an easy way how to inform viewers that wouldn't know that instrument.

The best kind of interviewer - sensitive, good questions and a good listener. Brilliant music and musician ... just about a perfect combo.
alan sturgess. Yes, for sure. I thought so too.

mrkv4k oh ok thanks
his left eye is on the fiddle and his right eye is on the guitarist...some talent to do that...have a look..
He has been blind since birth - the one eye is glass, and I think the other is closed - smh.
They told me that you dide
He looks like a jerk and plays like an angel. I'm impressed! Looks and talent don't always go together. ;-)
Why does he look like a jerk? Makes no sense. His appearance has nothing to do with his talent, and also he is a super nice person besides.
Looks like a jerk? How so?
