unlike Retrospect, here they showed close-ups of the choir and musicians' faces and their instruments, it's so cool. And I also noticed while watching the concert that many of the orchestra participants were actively lighting up the crowd and it was clear that they themselves were having a great time here and I have never seen this at any metal concert with an orchestra before, that the orchestra members were so active. The conductor is a very charismatic guy, he is Mexican and also participated in concerts of Septicflesh and Therion before.
I love Nightwish. Let's get that out of the way now. However, Epica has grabbed the symphonic metal crown. Epica is the gold standard now for symphonic metal hands down.
Hey Kyle!! You make me smile, you saw me in one second!! What a concert!! And I think this Is a much better edition and sound mix than in the streaming… I watched it and it has more general images, here we can see first planes from the orchestra and the choir… and the fans too!! I’m very honoured to be in the video and to be your friend!!
The conductor is named Dante Díaz and he is from Mexico. The song itself is an adaptation of the "Danse Macabre" written by Camille Saint-Saëns is the 19th century. The Efteling has a new ride based on the theme of that song and it opened on Halloween. A member of the orchestra gave some background information on the concert on social media. I will post it as a reply to this message as Google tends to mark links to other social media platforms as spam.
Epica was asked by the second most visited themepark Efteling to sing the already existing song Danse Macabre. They probably added the Ghost In Me title but the song is the already existing song Danse Macabre by another composer. Epica just altered the song a bit. Epica did a collaboration with the second most visited themepark in Europe called Efteling. for the opening of their new dark ride also called Danse Macabre. The dark ride Danse Macabre is a run down haunted monastery. It was invented by people in Efteling with a total new ride mechanism so this dark ride you will not see in other themeparks in the world.. Danse Macabre is a danse with the dead. That is also what the dark ride called Danse Macabre is in Efteling. It is a danse with epic music, a ride with spinning church benches and a visual display of creepy things you would see in a run dow monastery. The waiting line leads you through a cemetery with music and moving parts. Efteling is one of the oldest themeparks in the world. It has a huge fairytale forest which you can get lost in for hours, some of the best dark rides in the world and rollercoasters. It is filled with fairies, goblins, fairytales and even the ATM and garbage cans are themed. The garbage cans are depicted as funny men who suck up garbage. Kids see this as a game so kids try to find as much garbage as they can to put in the garbage sucking trashs can so the park is always clean. They have the man / puppet with the longest neck in the world called "Long Neck" and also a big statue donkey that poops golden Efteling coins. Kids also see this as game to catch those golden Efteling coins. At the opening of Danse Macabre the waiting line was 4 hours to get in this dark ride. People from other countries came for the opening of Danse Macabre and it was all over the news on tv. Americans and English peope who visited Efteling have called Efteling the dark version of Disney because Efteling doesnt sugarcoat the original fairytales by the brothers Grimm like Disney does. Efteling is built in a nature reserve and is not owned by a big corporation like Disney. It is owned by a foundation that is why prices of entree, food and hotel are lower than Disney. Is Efteling only for kids !? No, it is a family themepark it has something for everyone playgrounds for children, some of the best dark rides in the world, rollercoasters and dualing rollercoasters. Efteling was built before Disney parks even existed and the dark ride Danse Macabre, Epica sang the song in front of, is one of the most expensive haunted houses (monastery) in the world. It cost 35 million euros to built it. So it is not only a couple of animatronics you'll see. Unfortunately the onride video of Danse Macabre doesnt show clearly what people see during the ride. You have to be on the ride at least 3 times to be able to see it all. When you ask someone from the Netherlands what should I visit besides Amsterdam most would say go to Efteling. Since Efteling is one of the oldest themeparks in the world, as said it was built before Disney parks even existed, a lot of themeparks that were built later took inspiration from Efteling. One example is the first ever Madhouse that was built in the world in Efteling. Later on other themeparks copied that idea of Madhouses making them even better. A madhouse is where the room spins around you so you think you sit on the walls or the ceiling. There are lots of videos in English of people from England and the US on TH-cam who vlogged about their visit to Efteling.
It's really great watching this from all these different camera angles. "Efteling metal" in optima forma as we Dutchies put it. You guys must know by now that the Efteling and metal are a great match. So here's some more trivia about the matchmaker behind these lovely scenes. Keyboard Coen was the instigator of this particular collab. He contacted a rather interesting guy, the in-house Efteling composer named René Merkelbach. René worked with: Within Temptation, Krezip (lead singer was a class mate of Floor at the Rock Academy), Gorefest and Anneke van Giersbergen (two Efteling attractions). He also worked with Floor who in 2007 did the vocals for the then most ambitious attraction called "De Vliegende Hollander". Floor was with AF who still had to put up with their [ ..beep.. ] manager. He argued over music rights and René had to replace Floor's vocals with another singer before the opening of The Flying Dutchman, so the public never heard Floor's magnificent vocals (still on YT though, far superior tt replacement of course). One last little tidbit is that Merkelbach worked in the studio of one Oscar Holleman. The name sounded familiar. Turns out he was the former guitarist of a band called "Vengeance". Guess who also played in that band? Yup, Arjen Anthony Lucassen, the Tall Hippie Dude himself! René is also credited on several Ayreon songs. So there you go.. It's all connected ;)
I am so glad to be in this time and have the honour to see those great bands like Epica and Nightwish. I booked the livestream and already then I was just mesmerized by it. Simone is growing on me more each time she brings out new stuff. She truly deserves the seat besides Floor on the throne of metal singers. Greetings from Germany Excellent song and as usual excellent reaction!
Got me thinking of orchestras that do grand covers of popular songs. How annoying for them that Epica already hit the roof of grandnes with their songs 😂. Amazing performance!

Kijk, zo leer ik ook nog eens wat! Ben een grote Ayreon fan, maar wist niet van de connectie met Merkelbach
