A lovely finished piece - however, from a practical point of view, very wasteful with material, and also a very time consuming way of doing it - far better to make the head from 16 slices of tubing arranged around centre stone to shape the head, lift
stone without disturbing tubing pieces, hard solder together, shape and fit/tack in centre stone bezel, then add centre stone claws and wire up cage. Result - head done in half the time with no material wastage at all. We all do things the way that suits us best, and a beautiful finished item (which yours is) is the most important result - but in the "old days" speed and economy were deemed just as important.

Topaz Tschinnery there is no way that cutting 16 pieces of tube, making them flat, soldering them on, pickling, tidying up the solder and polishing is quicker and more efficient than this. This is the classic way of doing it and this guy seriously knows what he’s doing. Also it means there are 16 more solder joins and more that could go wrong rather than having one solid piece of metal

I used to make patterns in Brass for casting companies, 1) Plasticin in a dome-2) inserting cherniers (small tubes) around the center bezel-3) pouring plaster of Paris behind- 4) when dry soldering with Tenacity 4x hard solder, My smaller tube 1 mm, it is much easier to get the outline, no dividers and so on, which it will be difficult to use in small tubes. Anyway all replaced by digital CAD, CAM and Printer. Many ways lead to Rome
