I just made three of your Dutch Apple pies and they were a huge hit!! Beautiful pie with great layers! I used mainly Granny Smith and a couple of McIntosh. Thank you for this recipe! It’s the Best & a keeper!!
Hi, Marie, you are awesome you explained this very beautifully this is extremely significant for making Dutch apple pie look delicious and amazing. Thanks for making this video.
I really like you and your teaching! I tried your Apple pie recipe and it worked out perfectly! No soggy bottom! You are a genius 🧠 thank you! Merci! Your videos are easy to follow for me!! Thank you for sharing and God bless you. P.S. I use Monk Fruit and let me tell you- it works exactly the same!! Whole family loved and went for seconds!!!❤❤❤❤❤ 🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧
I doubled the fun. I got two pies in the oven now. I ran out of Grannies so I substituted with 3 Galas and skipped the brown sugar. I can already tell they're going to turn out great! I'll let you know. 🙂 One thing. I ran
Hi Shay! Thanks for watching and for taking time to leave a note! Always love to hear from viewers 😊 Yes the apple peeler is the best! 🍏 Pease stay tuned for more new recipes soon ❤️, Marie
Hi Tonya! Thanks for watching! It’s the best peeler but they don’t sell it at Williams Sonoma anymore 😭 I found it here though: shop.progressiveintl.com/professional-apple-peeler/ Hope that helps! ❤️, Marie
Hi Marie! Lovely recipe and very helpful presentation, as always! I don’t have a food processor... (I know! How do I even cook?!?) Would you kindly show us how to cut the cold butter into the crumbs for the topping using a pastry cutter tool? (I DO have one of those! A beautiful Androck brand vintage one in stainless steel with cherry red Bakelite handle. I love it!) Many thanks!
Hi Cheryl! Yes pastry cutter is the way to go 👍🏻👍🏻 I love vintage kitchenware 🥰 I dream of going to estate sales and binding little gems like that. Thanks so much for watching ❤️, Marie
One more question, it looks like you’re using a deep dish pie plate… Is your pie crust recipe large enough for a deep dish pie plate? It looks beautiful, I can’t wait to try this!
Hi Jerry! I’ve looked everywhere! I can’t believe they don’t sell it anymore 😭 I’m going to test out a few other brands and see if I can find a suitable replacement. I’ll keep you posted. Thanks for watching. My best, Marie
Hi! It’s not as essential because you don’t have the top crust (the big gap that is created when apples cook down) but it’s still a good idea. This is a recipe I wrote earlier 😊 Thanks for watching, Marie
My question in on the strudel, you put flour in this, but you didn’t say gluten-free could be used as well. If this is the case, can you come up with a gluten-free strudel for it? I have tried to get mine perfected, but still a little mushy. Browns and gets crunchy, so not bad, but always looking for better ways.😊
In the written recipe you have 1/2 cup of brown sugar for the topping and in your video you have a 1/4 cup brown and 1/4 cup white. Which one is the best? is it preference?
The best texture and flavor! My mom always insisted I use Granny Smith. She said other apples didn’t have the right texture when cooked. 🥰 Thanks so much for watching!
@MadebyYouandI Hah! THAT chocolate chip cookie recipe would be the Holy Grail - and also the Unicorn! (Your YT channel name bothers me just a little bit, and I hate to mention this, but 'YouandI' isn't grammatically correct. 'YOUandMe' is correct. My English teachers told me in practice to eliminate the first named reference - in this case 'You' - and then read the sentence out loud to see how it sounds. So, 'Made by I' does not sound right. But 'Made by Me' does.)
@marieskitchen so this is nearly the same as your Apple crisp topping…except it has oats in it. Question…I thought Dutch apple has sour cream on or in the topping?
At one moment you say bake for 25 min at 425 degrees then reduce the heat for the duration, then it switches screens and you say you baked it at 425 for 45 min…so I’m confused. Can I get clarification on this?
Hi Robert! Sorry for the confusion. The recipe is here: mariesaba.com/recipes/dutch-apple-pie/ In the video I forgot to say that you reduce to 359 for 45 mins. Again sorry for the confusion and thank you for alerting me to the error. My best, Marie
Hi Marie, quick question! I was looking at your other Apple pie video and you recommended cooking the apples ahead of time in that apple pie recipe but this one you didn’t, does it make a difference? Thanks!
Hi! Great question! It’s not as essential to precook here because you don’t have a top crust (instead just the streusel topping), so when the apples sink down, the streusel goes with them. But you can certainly precook apples here too. I’m just always learning and trying new things, and so the precooking is a newer development 😊 Let me know if you need anything else ❤️, Marie
I don't know if you mean "American Dutch", but us actual Dutch people here in The Netherlands we don't make our apple pies like this at all. This looks more like apple crumble, which is more of a German or Swiss apple pie.
Hi Larry! Thanks for watching and for taking time to leave a note! So glad you enjoyed the video 😊 Pease stay tuned for more new recipes soon 👍🏻My best, Marie
@marieskitchen I DEFINITELY WILL. DO YOU HAVE ANY CHEESE CAKE RECIPES? AND ALSO CAN YOU FREEZE PANCAKES AND FOR HOW LONG? YOUR CHANNEL IS AWESOME KEEP THE RECIPES COMING. 👍👀
I found a much better Apple peeler: Amazon, Made out of Cast Iron: Apple Peeler Corer, 3 In 1 Apple Peeler Slicer Corer with Powerful Suction Base and Stainless Steel Blades for Apples Pears and More. $23.39
What we call "Dutch apple pie" here in the US is the recipe early 17th century Dutch settlers brought along. In the meantime it makes perfect sense that the original Dutch recipe has evolved since then in the Netherlands.

Did you precook the apples?
This is my family’s favorite apple pie, can’t wait to make it.
Hi Sue! I just love this pie because the topping is so easy 😅 Plus who doesn’t love a crumb topping 🤩 Can’t wait for you to try it! Hugs, Marie

Hi Marie, I love your videos. I have ceramic pie plate. Won't it break if I place it in the oven directly from the freezer?
Hi, Marie, you are awesome you explained this very beautifully this is extremely significant for making Dutch apple pie look delicious and amazing. Thanks for making this video.
Thanks for the nice Video 😋.
Mmmhh so delicious.
Blessings from Germany 🙏 😋 😘
Hi Christa! Thanks for watching 🥰 So glad you enjoyed this one and hope you get to try it! ❤️, Marie

Do you have a different recipe for pie crust that you use when making a deep dish pie crust like this one?
One more question, it looks like you’re using a deep dish pie plate… Is your pie crust recipe large enough for a deep dish pie plate? It looks beautiful, I can’t wait to try this!
You must have bought the last apple corer/peeler. I cant fine one like it anywhere. Love all of your recipes .
Hi Jerry! I’ve looked everywhere! I can’t believe they don’t sell it anymore 😭 I’m going to test out a few other brands and see if I can find a suitable replacement. I’ll keep you posted. Thanks for watching. My best, Marie
So do you precook your apples for this pie as you did in the video with the top crust apple pie?
Hi! It’s not as essential because you don’t have the top crust (the big gap that is created when apples cook down) but it’s still a good idea. This is a recipe I wrote earlier 😊 Thanks for watching, Marie

I noticed you did not precook the apples for the dutch pie, but you did with tohe lattice pie. For the dutch pie should I precook the apples
I also have pre cooked my apples. Do I need to change baking temperature and time?
I was wondering the same thing.
@@valerieramsden30wondering the same thing.

Yes, Granny Smith for apple pie. I always use them.

I've been researching pies for my own channel and came across your video. Looks simple to make and delicious -- pinned it!
Awesome! So glad you like it!? Let me know if there’s anything else you’d like to see!
@@marieskitchen How about calories-free chocolate chip cookies? ;)
It's the Holy Grail. lol

Do have a recipe for cherry pie?
@marieskitchen so this is nearly the same as your Apple crisp topping…except it has oats in it.
Question…I thought Dutch apple has sour cream on or in the topping?
My choice for Apple pie is Macintosh, Granny Smith, and Johnny Gold.
Hi Maureen! Thanks so much for watching 😊 Those apples sound like a great combination ❤️, Marie
In your "Secret to the Best Apple Pie" you pre-cook your apple pie. This video is much older... is the most recent Apple Pie recipe better?
At one moment you say bake for 25 min at 425 degrees then reduce the heat for the duration, then it switches screens and you say you baked it at 425 for 45 min…so I’m confused. Can I get clarification on this?

Do you ever add nuts or oats to crumb toppings?
you most definitely can! it adds more texture
She puts old fashioned oats in her apple crisp topping

So what is different about your Dutch Apple Pie? Please share… I’m interested, I thought Dutch Apple Pie had sour cream on top also…
