Papa, man, your an EXCELLENT teacher!!!!! One of the things that I also like is that you are man enough to say things like "It's not a 100% but it puts you about 90-95% there"; you are not egotistical or afraid to more or less say "I can't play it exactly like Jimi, but I'm willing to share what I DO know" I know I speak for literally multitudes of players when I say a heartfelt THANK YOU SIR for all of the time you put into making and editing and posting to share your knowledge with us!!
I've loved this song for years and thought it sounded WAY to complicated to ever try to learn. You broke it down so well - so efficiently - that I actually learned it rather quickly ... I am very grateful! Now that I've got this piece down, I'd love to see you run through some of the details of the other verses! Thank you so much for all your videos - you are an inspirational artist and an awesome instructor. BLESSINGS TO YOU!
I'm 71, graduated from Peabody Conservatory of Music for classical and studied with Carl Filipiak for years and he's a Hendrix freak and I must say that you have done one fine job with this song. Kudos man. The best lesson I've seen. Why don't you give em' a treat and teach em' Little Wing.
Thanks Papa, this is an excellent lesson. I hope you continue with Part 2, there is so much that can be learned from this song. In fact, all of the Hendrix songs like Little Wing, Wind Cries Mary, Bold As Love etc are awesome to learn. I get what Hendrix is doing with his chords and fills....but I take that knowledge away with me and soon run out of ideas. Then I come back and learn more Hendrix. I think you have to be a guitar player to realize how great he was. What an awesome rhythm player!!
Just wanted to thank you again Brett, I hadn't watched this lesson for a while and found out what and where I was messing up Angel and why I wasn't playing it right, it was close but I just knew something was off. I play every day now and things are coming back quick and for the most part a lot easier now I'm getting my finger muscles back after not playing close to 20 years, Huge shout out and thanks to You ,Marty and the main man Tim pierce you guys are the best.
papastache is single handedly proving the value of the internet... thanks for sitting in my living room and sharing your knowledge and expertise... and you have yet to tell to me to stand by with my credit card... such altruism
always loved this song. I almost don't wanna hack it up trying to play it lol. I understand that JH worked on this song quite a while over a period of time. The lyrics are great too. For that matter the whole Cry of Love Album is amazing.
Thanks so much for this lesson. All alone with Hendrix on Thanksgiving. Not bad company. I am transposing this lesson for my 12 string solo act. You help is greatly appreiciated......
you are amazing, and i think its pretty cool that i first saw this video today, exactly one year after you posted it...admittedly not the ideal date but still thank you so much man.
I think its easier to use your middle finger on the opening chords (I see people playing them all the time - but have no idea what it is or what the root is for that chord shape) so if you are having trouble with the stretch, try index on the G, middle on the A and D strings and pinky on the B string.
Once again, thank you so much Papastache!! The chord progression alone takes me back to a mystical sort of mindframe, when i was a kid in the 70s, and my parents would put the Cry of Love on Vinyl and let it roll man. Good times, Hendrix and Porky Pig!
Hey Papastache thank you for all your awesome videos. Could you do a lesson on "Somewhere" by Jimi please? At least the first part maybe. This tune is so good it's beyond words.

great tutorial of a beautiful song. It's not a bad thing just to learn the basics of the tune and then just improvise and play around.
Thanks!
Ok, here is my request: "Like A Rolling Stone" - the Jimi Hendrix version live @ Winterland!
I used to go to Winter land on Steiner in SF back in the 70s but I don't remember Hendrix playing there. When was that?
