I’m still holding onto my M1 Max lol. I have still not been able to use all the power in it. Still looks the same visually. Maybe in 3-4 years I’ll look at an upgrade
Same I don’t even know why to upgrade. People around me still use windows laptops that are even 3-5 times slower then the M1 Max. As long as the design doesn’t change will probably not get a new one the coming years because this machine does everything for me
Same. Only limiting thing I couldn’t predict was I got a 16GB ram and my ML workflows development requires probably a bit more, but I can go another 1-3 years with how fast this M1 Max is before upgrading. Probably when they add OLED
for the majority of tasks there is very little reason to upgrade. With M4 Max I would ay running LLM's in AI based apps would be one reason and maybe large video edits or something along those lines. Otherwise there is no need.
Great benchmark! It was truly engaging, and I thoroughly enjoyed the detailed insights provided on the M family CPUs and GPUs. However, it would be fantastic to include benchmarks for Blender, gaming, and Excel (at least to understand why the M4 advertises it, haha). These applications are incredibly popular, and including benchmarks for them would provide us with a more comprehensive understanding of how the new chips perform in real-world scenarios. Additionally, it would be incredibly helpful to include graphs comparing CPU, CPU & GPU, and neural network performance. I eagerly anticipate more updates like this. Furthermore, I’ve never encountered such a diverse range of benchmarks in any other TH-camr . Your efforts truly deserve praise!
Not a MacBook, but still happy with my M1 iMac with 16Gb RAM for everyday tasks, and a bit of photoshopping, coding and light gaming. Tempted by the upgrade marketing but honestly the M1 is still pretty phenomenal.
I finally upgrade my MacBook Pro 2017 intel 15 inch to the M4 Pro (1T/48G). My old Mac is so laggy and used replace the whole motherboard for 280 USD. Now I am so excited for my new Mac 😎
Should I buy the 14” M4 MacBook Pro / M4 Mac Mini - with the m4 pro 24gb ram 512gb ssd or m4 16gb ram 512gb ssd configuration for my use case? I need it for beginners photo and video editing, programming, web browsing, watching yt videos, listening to music and podcasts with high quality audio interface and headphones amp, taking it to university with me sometimes, and media consumption.
@ Ok, thank you Aaron! And which Mac model do you recommend for me if I’m not sure I will take it out for university if needed? Then Mac mini is better to combine with a dell 2723qe 4k 60hz monitor? Or I should still get the 14” MacBook Pro for the added portability choice if needed?
I returned M4 pro with 20-core GPU and bought the base M4 Max with 36-core GPU because I needed a machine that can run 70B parameters LLM. The M4 pro was powerful but can’t run it while the M4 Max runs without hesitation. I do think that 24gb vs 36gm memory and the M4 Max’s larger memory bandwidth can be also the key reasons for the Max
I think nano texture spresds the reflection and decrease contrast and image quality overall, no black blacks - it's a rule for matte display texture... Great video!
I am not sure if it is my imagination but the nano texture display looks more accurate on these new MacBooks Pro, compared to the nano texture used on iPad or Studio Display. I haven’t seen any of these nano texture screens in real life though, but based on videos I have seen, these new MacBooks Pro screens look awesome 🤔. The extra brightness might be a factor…
I grabbed a iPad Pro w the nano and love it! Ordered a new M4 w the nano textured glass! The way the cloth cleans the glass is amazing still have yet to need spray with the cloth.
That Xcode benchmark on M1 Max is off by a lot. Are you sure there isn't anything installed to slow it down? It should be arounf 152seconds. Certainly not 360s.
Im a graphic designer and I wanna upgrade from the 2022 M2 air 8gb ram 256GB hard drive. I have a budget of about $1400 I’m wondering if I could get a M1 MacBook Pro for that and would that be a significant upgrade or it would be better upgrading to a M4 Mac Mini Pro
Since I'm currently on an M3 Pro MacBook Pro, there's no point to upgrade to the M4 Pro other than the brighter screen, better performance, Thunderbolt 5 and Apple Intelligence, I will be holding off on my laptop until they introduce an OLED MacBook Pro. This comparison is useful Aaron!
It depends if you want HDR or not. The pro has a 120 Hz display with HDR capability where the error does not. However, for what you’re doing you don’t need the processor of the pro
no idea as I haven't looked at others videos, but the results are the results. This is real world testing like for like with lots of apps loaded, different real world tests. I just ran them and this is what they get. Not sure what test you are referring to, but the video export test could come down to the codec used or something else.
@zollotech ok qs please, so video exporting will be pretty much same with 1hr 4k video on m1 max vs m4 max? With just time of exporting just a little longer?...im thinking to return my m4 max and get used m1 max...i needed it mostly for 4k vide editing, and sometimes hour long videos with effects and luts. M1 max i can get for 1.6k used, vs 5k for medium m4 max spec

I will upgrade next year because my M1 Max is still an absolute beast, anyone agree as I would be interested to know….thanks Aaron always the go to guy, Love, Purpose n Peace MCD
Great Aaron ❤😊n I still have to wait until I can afford to buy whichever one I can afford right now I think m1 Mac is probably the best bet for me bc the other ones way out of my budget for me n even m1 Mac is out budget right now 😊❤
M1 users should wait for M5, but anybody using an Intel MBP should upgrade. Only scenario to not upgrade from Intel is a 100% maxed out 16" 2019 with an i9-9980HK, 64GB of RAM, 8TB of Storage, a 5600M, and even a 6900 XT eGPU.
A ~12% performance difference between the M3 and M4 Max in the Xcode benchmark (the only benchmark I am interested in anyway) isn't as good as I was expecting truth be told. There has been so much hype about these M4 chips but that isn't anything special. It is the expected 10-15% year on year gains yet with all the hype I have heard people talking about with the M4 I was expecting something closer to 30% gains. I get 104 seconds on my M2 Max 64GB/1TB which puts the M4 Max (with double the RAM) at ~25% improvement over my M2 Max which lines up as expected. Looks like it will probably be the M6 where I think about looking to replace my M2 with a new machine as we should be hitting ~50% performance gains then. Also hopefully a redesign in 2026 to go with the M6 if the leaks are true. Also am I alone in wishing Apple would just ditch the notch and webcam entirely now we can use the continuity camera via iPhone that looks 10x better than the webcam? I would rather lose the notch and have no webcam than have the notch just for that mid-tier webcam. Hopefully if they switch to Tandem OLED like with the iPad Pro they drop the notch if all it is going to house is a webcam. Total waste on an otherwise lovely display imho.
@@jameshiggins26 Wouldn't be so bad if it actually had a super high quality webcam in it (or FaceID however I personally don't want FaceID on my MacBook, I prefer to have something that requires me to physically trigger authentication such as touching the TouchID button. For example I don't want my passwords app or photos delete items to auto-unlock because I just happen to be looking at the screen!). But for the meh quality webcam it currently has I would prefer they remove it and just use a MagSafe clip with my phone to attach it to the screen when needed which is what I currently do and it is so much better than the build in webcam.
I hope the redesign for 2026 is not smaller and thinner again since we are at the limit of this thermal envelope right now. Newer chips need more power, more power means more heat and fan noise. So Apple needs a beefier cooling system.

The m4 max is disappointing. The only thing I'm happy about is the increase in points per CPU core, everything else is also a bit higher, but this is achieved by higher frequencies and higher consumption. M3 max was already hot, m4 max is even hotter. And according to all tests it is clear that its autonomy is worse than m3 max. No wonder it's so hard to find a comparison of these processors on youtube, there's nothing much to show
What annoys me with Apple they announce a new feature brighter outside but it’s just unlocking software limit for old ones, vivid lets M1 Max go max brightness anytime even indoors with out auto brightness on
The M4 MAX is slower than my AMD5950x, 16 core with a 6700xt graphics card and 128gb of RAM. In Cinebench I am getting over 30,000. My CPU has been superseded by 2 generations of processor so is comparable to the m1 generation. Your comparisson to a threadripper isn't a current model so is wholly misleading. The current threadripper is the 7995WX, the one you COMPARED to is PCiE gen 3 and was released in 2018! Saying the M4 isn't as fast as a 2018 CPU isn't a good thing for the MAC! A 2018 CPU beating a 2024 MAC isn't a win. That's very dissapointing Aaron, you can do better. One thing to be wary of with the new MAC's is the Memory used by AI, I bought the M4P mini and the RAM is maxed out with my day to day useage. Apple intelligence uses about 9gig of RAM.
It's not misleading at all as you are referring to a specific task and not the whole CPU as a package. I show it and anyone looking at threadrippers would spot that difference and honestly isnt looking at macs most likely. However when it comes to video export times, photo editing and coding, Macs generally do those tasks faster along with video editing and export video much faster due to dedicated chips on the CPU.
@@zollotech cinebench isn't a specific task, it's an independant measurement of single and multi-core CPU power and that is why YOU used it. You specifically mention the Threadripper but fail to point out it's a CPU that is MORE than 6 years old and that it came out in 2018. It has been superseeded many times. The Current Threadripper is 272% more powerfull than the M4 MAX machine you tested (but you made it sound like it was a current AMD chip) The R23 score differences being 100,295 vs 26891). I love your videos, I just believed your comparing the M4 to the 2018 threadripper was misleading and the claim should have been clarified. As I said, my 4 year old PC that's been superseeded 2 times already scores more than the M4 Max in Cinebench R23
@@James-sb4ge the point is a 2024 CPU was compared to the power of a 2018 AMD (and not a 2024 CPU) with the Cinebench results. There is nothing stopping Apple using more power in their PRO machines, the Studio/Mini/Pro run off mains power and have no battery. Apple chooses to limit the power in their pro machines, that's on them.
@ Well yes if you look at the one benchmark you cherry picked. What if you look at any other benchmark like Geekbench 6? What if you looked at any video editing, and real day to day usage. My 13900k 4090 system (that scores 42,500 on Cinebench) would get beat in a number of these tasks by a M4 Max using a portion of the power.

@@d-zonewe get it, your 105w TDP desktop CPU beats a 70w TDP laptop ARM chip on one specific test 👍🏻
@zollotech
Please do an unboxing of the M4 iMac if you can.
Amazing content covered in your videos as always!
As a video editor with M1 Max… I will wait for the M4 Studio with M4 Ultra chip. This will be a BEAST🔥
