    I found out with a Taurus I had, a half decent bore scope ( around $100 paid for mine) will show you many things. Made it easy for me to find a pit in the chamber that caused the brass to expand out into it, ruining brass and causing spent rounds to stick. The bore scope also exposed a crack in the chamber of the replacement barrel I bought from Taurus.
    Plus its also cool to look down the barrels of my firearms, and Ive even used it on my cars too.

    • @myrthjt
      @myrthjt วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@dr.benjaminbennettth.d.7304 $150-$200 is what I typically expect. Talk to your gunsmith a good bit before you do it. It will change the way the gun shoots.
      It's arguable that you are far better off in the long run to simply have it rebarreled with a good quality barrel already threaded, especially if you have a gun which shoots really well.
      I've had a few done, first one I saw no real difference and didn't change my groups at all, 0.5" with handloads all day. The second rifle I had done opened up from 0.35" to 0.9". Same gun smith. Now I just buy a barrel and have it installed and head spaced. No issues. If there are I can go back to the old barrel and take the issue up with the barrel manufacturer.

    It was either overpressure loads or just a bad lot of brass from federal. I figure the brass is really thin for starters. Brass can be hard or soft or thick or thin which determines if brass may split when shot. Contact federal and let them know lot number so they can determine if a recall may be necessary. I'm sure there are more boxes out there or may just be one box but I doubt it thanks for the video😊

    On a box of Federal rifle ammunition, the lot number is usually printed on the side of the box, near the bottom; it will be clearly labeled as "Lot No." or a similar designation. Oh by the way Hornady has a recall on 350 legend for 16 lots of overpressure rounds. Federal may have the same issue now. Please contact them. Take care😊

    Please contact Federal. Personally, in 4 decades of shooting, twice I've had issues with Federal ammo. Weirdly, both times were straight wall casings. Both times, they were apologetic, gracious, and more than resolved the issue. Firearms are often blamed when issues like this occur, yet ammunition isn't infallible.

    I had 1,000 round case of .223 Rem a few years back that did the same thing. To make sure it was the ammo I shot it in my AR-15, then two different bolt action. So then, by definition, Rossi could not duplicate the problem because they could not perform a test using the "same" ammo that came from the same box. It brings to mind when I experienced misfires from a single box of Winchester ammo and have yet to see it happen again with any other boxes of factory ammo in the same or any other rifle. Thankfully, Winchester gave me a full refund for that box and another of the same load I had purchased at the same time.

    Sometimes, even a reliable manufacturer like Federal, can have a bad lot of brass, these days brass is recycled & could have some contaminants in the mix! Or somewhere in the process of annealing the brass it may have gotten too hot or cooled off too fast & that can effect the strength of the brass! Without microscopic examination, you can't just see the weakened with your eyes, especially if the brass has been polished!

    I never had any boxed ammo ever do such a thing. I did have some bad Winchester 44mag I was firing out of my lever action rifle that was cratering the primers. IT was loaded too hot. I stopped immediately and threw that box out. That is the only weird store bought ammo issue I have had. (I'm not counting ammo that the gun does not shoot accurately. Split brass is a fatigue issue. On brand new brass, all I can figure is an over pressure issue. That generally comes from too hot of a charge of powder.) I am surprised it was Federal with the issue. However, I suppose anyone could have a bad lot number get out. That is why they have recalls and safety warnings on their sites. Glad it is resolved.

    They may have just loaded a batch too hot. That's why I stick to my own handloads whenever possible. Your other video I thought you had tried different ammo but I guess I wasn't watching it close enough. Being a poor prepper reloader I tend to reuse my brass and particularly with 5.56 since I load them fairly hot to the old Belgium specs that the military used to use and after about 3 uses on my brass I get a tiny little crack at the neck. Not enough to get gas blowback or effect accuracy noticeably but enough to prompt me to throw away the brass. I'm glad it worked out and it was nice of Rossi to replace it.

    I had a carbon 6.5 creedmor barrel that split a few cases during break-in. After removing the barrel and dropping in a pin gauge we realized that one axis of the chamber diameter was .002" wider than the .264 diameter which means a little more expansion room for the brass. The manufacturer was awesome and replaced it asap.

    Federal should want all the information there is about that lot, as they might issue a recall. Split cases represent a risk to the shooter - a semi-auto comes to mind. I'd be surprised if they wouldn't aggressively seek to have that box delivered to them for testing - brass lot, powder, primer, heat treatment/annealing machine settings, etc.
    Rossi is to be acknowledged for both their willingness to test and their replacement policy; good on ya, Rossi - confidence-inspiring customer service that took them up in visibility and rep in my view, for sure.
    On behalf of other shooters who may have ammo from that same lot, and are, as a result, potentially in danger, I'd join in encouraging a call to Federal. Thanks for the info - it's a great benefit to the shooting community. Kudos to you!

Brought this issue up with the store i bought it from, and ended up doing some test shots. Shot 10 rounds of 7 different brands and different grain weights. Then brought the cases and gun back to my gun store to send back to Rossi. Rossi also couldn't replicate the damaged cases. I wonder if the suppressor adds more back pressure as we know from suppressed semi autos. Yes I know this isn't a semi auto, but, when you fire a gun, the brass casing expands, forming a good seal to the chamber, and brass also shrinks suddenly, so it can be ejected from the chamber. If it's in the shrinking stage, and the back pressure (because of the suppressor) is hitting it again, the casing might be in a stress, and might cause a split. Everything happens in milliseconds, and I might be wrong, and there may be bad brass, or the moon was not correctly placed etc. Interesting stuff happens. 😂 And then it doesn't.
    Edit: try the "bad batch" with a chrono, with a suppressor, and without, and the good box too, there might be some overpressure issues also.

    Early Federal .32 H&R Mag brass was also prone to splitting. Some at first firing, others after one or two reloads. I assumed it was so that people would not buy a box or two for the brass, and then reload that brass indefinitely, and not buy any more FC ammo in that caliber.
    Later lots of FC ammo/brass did NOT have that problem.

    It seems you have a bad batch of ammo . When I load hot 🔥 sometimes, that's exactly what some of my case's do they split . Over pressure splits brass . You are lucky it's a single shot they have a very strong receiver. If that were a lever gun or semi-auto, it could have ben bad . I would definitely get with federal and let them know they have a bad batch/Lott number of over pressured dangerous ammo on the market and give them the Lott # . They will want you to send that box of faulty ammo so they can test it . I would keep a couple of the rounds 1 loaded and a couple of spent rounds just it case . When they find that their ammo has a over pressure problem They most likely will send you a few boxes of ammo . The odds of having a chamber so bad it splits the brass on a single shot is extremely slim . With 30/30 ammo from federal, we had that happen, and it ruined our lever gun and federal not only fixed our lever gun but customized it for us . New hammer , trigger , Heavy Barrel and action it was smooth as silk . You really need to contact federal just thank of all the other people with the same Lott# and problem. God bless you and your family God-bless America 🇺🇸 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱....GO DONALD. J. TRUMP GO ...🎉

    You can take calipers and measure the diameter of the brass on some unfired rounds where it's splitting. I'm betting they undersized the cases too much on that run. I've had a lot of bad factory ammo the past few years, I just buy brass and load my own ammo for everything now, bigger up front cost but the brass is generally higher quality.

    I suspect it's actually the ammo lot brass might be too hard and not annealed so it split instead of stretch but barrel chamber might be too loose on that first rifle.

    Would be interedting to pull the bullet and powder on an unfired case from the split box and see if there are any visible flaws in the brass.

    Glad you got this sorted out. Seems like the ammo.
    A side note though, you really should have stopped shooting and splitting cases a long time ago. Not trying to be that guy, but here's something to keep in mind. Every time you split a case like that you're letting hot gas mixed with very abrasive carbon escape there at 55,000 PSI and it is going to erode the chamber. It is a very small amount of damage but it's there. Do it enough and that chamber is done for. Arguably it's likely not the exact same spot in the chamber every time, but it adds up.

    @kweeks10045 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Brass could definitely be an issue. Although highly unlikely, the chamber could also be out of spec. If you have split brass from another manufacturer, have a chamber cast done so measurements can be taken. If it is out of spec, it will give you factual information to provide the manufacturer.

    I have had Federal 6.5 creedmoor ammo split on me from my Tikka t3x. Scared me shitless. I wasn't wearing safety glasses and got gases shot directly into my eye. Now I always have my safety glasses on and I don't use Federal ammo.

    Well that was about what I figured it to be. Check with federal they might already have a recall on that lot of ammo. Their site ought to tell you how you can find the lot number on the box. Rossi on the other hand showed they are a good company when they couldn’t get that problem to show up again, all they were on the hook for was to send the gun back and tell you you got a bad lot of ammo.

    THEY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT AMMO. I have the exact same ammo but I'm using it in an AR. No can. For me it either piercing the primers or blowing them out of the case. I sent a box to them and they said it had no issues. I had bought 10 boxes. I still have them sitting on the shelf. I'm afraid to mess with them. They are loaded too hot!

  • @T-riumph955i
    @T-riumph955i วันที่ผ่านมา

    I'd like to see you pull one of those bad cartridges and measure the powder in the ammo could be hot loads. It's probably just thin brass but could be over loaded and hot. But I would really like to see you weigh the powder in one or two of those bullets to know for sure. Would be an interesting video

    That issue with the Federal ammo is why I don't buy Federal same issue along with blown primers in the mid 90's - & in late 80's it was Remington failure to go off constantly - and that is why I have handloaded every round after 1993 & never had a issue since,,, & I just marked off my 4-million-th reloaded round.....
    Stay away from Remington and Federal & you won't have them issies

    Idk if you will actually read this comment but I do want to say thank you for the daily videos. I usually watch all your videos sometimes same day or day or two later but my father recently passed this Past weekend and he loved guns just as I do and these past couple days, your videos kinda help me kinda go back to before he passed and have a short sense of normalcy. Thanks. Whoteewho.

      @WHOTEEWHO I know, but you ended up shooting quite a few of those anyway. After just 2 bad ones you could have tried a different ammo type quick, maintaining the same level of risk but finding the problem immediately and saving a lot of time. But yeah, hindsight is 20/20.

    Bought bunch of hpr 5.56 once. Have a really good ar15. Puckered the primers and got stuck in the chamber had to beat out with a cleaning rod. Still have the rest of the 500 rounds. Puckered means the primers turned inside out like a belly button outy not a inny.

    It’s been my experience, using Starline , WW, R&P no split cases all fired in the same firearm , when I used Federal loads next I had 4 out of 10 rounds split the case neck ? Huh
    Federal cases go through the resizing die requiring the most pressure ! All the other brands are like silk going through the die !
    I took a flat file and hit a Federal case in two places , it’s hard brass so hard it’s brittle !
    I send two boxes back to Federal ( empty ) they replaced the brass !
    The replacement brass would split the necks also ! I do not know if Federal makes their brass or has a company make it but it’s too hard ! That’s when I quit using Federal brass !

    Does it split the brass without the suppressor? Does it split the brass with different ammo? You have to be able to answer these questions to determine if it’s the ammo or the rifle chamber.
