Fender GTX or Marshall DSL/Origin, Squier CV Tele or Gretsch Electromatic hollow body with HB, if no modelling amp a multifx a la ME-80 (ergonomics). With stand, strap and picks this will set you back about €1000-1200 new. The amp I mentioned do have an fx-loop. More on this when you're at the Crossroads...

I agree with this. You can also use this mentality with other things in life. I remember still using cheap phones with the number buttons up until 2015, all it could do was call/send messages. No apps or anything else. Less gadgets = more creativity, room to think/breathe so to say.

Great video! First guitar amp combo was a Univox melody maker combo with a Tele neck pickup on it and a Crate combo! After years of buying gear I spend most of my time playing my Tele into a Katana mini on one setting and loving it. Gear is great but it doesn’t beat the feeling of learning a new song/riff/solo!

Remember the Latin poet: abundance makes me poor.
This video made me go down memory lane: Ibanez Roadstar II guitar (2nd hand), Samick 10W amp, Boss OD-DS hybrid as gain device. That was it. And two tape recorders to work a as primitive looper...talking about resourcefulness

Hey Joey, the vids are a blast and the soaring solos are amazing - plus they remind me to stop, think and slow down.
Years of playing in Ctry-Rck - bands where grinding numerous strings just to hear myself - and create melody have seen me forget the pure pleasure of owning the musical moment.
Your also dead-on about too many options paralyzing 'that moment'.
Your onto a great theme here.

I feel like we all get caught up in that. Getting that magic pleasure back is something I think we need to actively relearn. And I’m in the middle of that process!

It was a red Vox strat replica and a 5 watt Scala amp. Both were great, to be fair.

    • @joeyjooones
      @joeyjooones  ปีที่แล้ว

That’s definitely a little above average for a starting rig 🙏🏻

    • @davidmayguitarsolotutorial4366

The red Vox guitar cost £26 ( a lot of money ) and the amp was £10 used. If you turned up the tone control on the Scala amp it sounded like a fuzz tone.

My first guitar was a Kimaxe Strat in Red with trem and HSS-pickups. A wonderful guitar, but my first amp was a 10W bad sounding something. I do know longer know the brand. I was lucky, when I had the chance to purchase a used Marshall Valvestate 8040, which I liked a lot. Foot-switchable drive and also a reverb. What a luxury.
I still have the Kimaxe Strat and had it tuned to the best pimped Cheapo on earth, because I did not want to make the mistake to sell it. Now it has Sperzel locking tuners, Callahan Trem, DiMarzio Pickups, Push-Pull-Poti, Bone Nut, Stainless Steel frets.
The guitar technician asked me: Are you sure you want to do all that? The body wood of this guitar is kind of a kitchen counter top.....🤣
    My answer: Yes, I will.
    Good choice.

I got rid of all my crap several years ago. Cut my rig down to a Roland BC-60 (3 speaker version) Boss tuner, a Beringer Blues Overdrive (cheap but sounds awesome) , and a Boss DD-6. Then I learned what my Tele and ES-335 could do in this set up. It taught me to learn to play again. NOT to rely on stuff.

My first guitar was a Harmony H-804 I got at a flea market for $50. I'm a lefty, so had to string it upside down. Piece of junk, but I played it hours and hours every day....with no amp. I recorded so many songs with the built in mic on my tape deck just strumming away on my unplugged electric guitar 😅 I didn't have an amp for 6 months. My parents finally got me a 10 Watt Park practice amp. I have some gear now, but I've got it down to a few good essentials. Too many options get in the way.

I agree, that you play less Options at the End. But it is also Fun, to try different Opitons. I began with Mothermilk of Guns n Roses & Metallica and first Thing was, hunting to Sound like Kirk and Slash. "What is wrong with People, that don´t play Humbuckers", was my Opinion. So might be, that you had given me a holy grail Vintage Strat and it had no interest for me in 1990 . For me more avaiable Gear was the Start of choosing the right for the right Song/Moment. Years later, I reduced from MIDI-Rack with Multi-FX to a JCM800-Combo, 2 cables and a Wah with one Guitar. In the last 8 Years my Gear is growing and I love this fact. Is it nessecary? No, i agree to you. Is it fun? Yes! And to be open for new Gear could be the next step to understand more the Basics and the differences. It takes time to find the own Gear-Preferences, but if this Proces is nearly finished, it is a strong relationship to the favourit Stuff. There is no right and wrong, but for me Single Coil Guitars are now my Love and that has needed more than 20 Years to find it out.

Early 80’s Fender sidekick 20 and a used Washburn Hawk !! Not a bad guitar, still have it. This is a great video. I have often thought of pulling out my early recording g set up. Tascam 424, Quadraverb, Roland JV-30 and MMT8, boss DR rhythm. 😂🤘🔥

Borrowed, or bought? If borrowed, I borrowed my cousin's acoustic that was missing a string. Later, borrowed his Ibanez. First one I actually owned was a Gibson Nighthawk. The shop owner discounted me for a new Fender Frontman 15G, and threw the cable in.

Didn’t see that coming.. use a Kemper for simplicity. My idea for simplicity is a little different lol. An Esquire into two pedals (tuner, OD) into a Princeton Reverb. All good.

My first guitar (1982) was a nearly unplayable piece of crap Carlo Robelli (Sam Ash) SG copy. I’ve got some nice guitars now, but one of my favorites is a Harley Benton SC that I paid $123 for. New.
