  • Keith and Allen (aka "the Other Frizzell Brother) work it out on this rendition of Keith's all-time favorite song. Take note to the proud wife and her mother Anna at the end of the video clip applauding another stellar performance from the Master.

I love this song, I've got it loads of versions of it, but it's Keiths that I always play, he sings it with so much emotion and it was so nice of him to share it with Lefty's little brother

This is a great song, thank you for puttin the video up. Keith Whitley is definately one of the all time bests. It's unfortunate that it had to end so soon, I can only imagine if he was alive the impact that he would have on Country radio as well as the sound of modern country.

Keith also had an eye for other talented singers, he discovered Ken Mellons in the 80's and told Ken he was one of the finest Country singers he'd ever heard. Alot of Whitley in Ken's voice.

That's right, I'm bad. (LOL) Well, I heard Allen was looking for a good copy of this performance he did with Keith, and I was sure to send him a link to it on his Myspace page. Olivia, his daughter, got back to me. That was the first time I ever spoke to her through email. I agree, this was a great performance, and Allen's contribution really made a huge difference. Thanks, Randy!

  • @mydsmber05

This is such a special song for so many reasons. It was Keith's favorite song by his favorite artist and he even had one of the original writers come and write a new verse. Aparently the day he recorded it he actually went to Lefty's grave and let him hear the new verse.... It could be argued that this song was Keith's requiem.

  • @MAMsMom97
    @MAMsMom97  15 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks so much, Shay. Having Lefty's baby brother Allen sing with Keith on this one really lent an authenticity to the remake. I think Allen sounds more like Lefty than David (the middle brother) does, IMO. I think it should have been a single, but there were so many off the DCYE CD that I think could have been. Tell me, I know Keith's 1st single in the UK was "The Birmingham Turnaround" off DCYE. What kind of airplay did it get over there? I've always wondered how it did on the charts.

Have you heard "I Can Bring Her Back",or "I Went Crazy For Awhile" or "He Ain't Even Cold Yet,or " 7 Lonely Days"? A
REAL Country fan would not judge an artist by 1 song. Oh,and by the way, that "dopey" song was awarded the BMI/ASCAP 1 million airplay award. 1 of the few songs in Country Music history to accomplish that feat. Taylor Swift,or Rascall Flatts maybe more up your alley!! If not, search Ken Mellons on here.

It's fine if you liked the song "Jukebox Junkie"--but stop deluding yourself into thinking it was some sort of record-setter at radio. There were probably 30 No. 1 hits that year and just about all of them had to have earned that designation.

    Whoa, take it easy.
"Jukebox Junkie" was a very minor hit.--barely cracked the top-10. It didn't make any history as far as radio airplay.
And it was a dopey song.

@highnrising So lets get this straight.
JUST because YOU don't like Ken Mellons Jukebox junkie is dopey?/
that song was at least a top 40 and I think maybe a top ten of not number one.
His voice sounded a LOT like Keith Whitley a lot of the same overtones in their voices, and Ken is a nice person. Typical YT trollers always have to murder someone verbally. Keyboard Murderers. It makes some people feel better to put down others.

    Big friggin' deal.
There must have been 30 other songs that year that got that BMI/ASCAP plaque for "1 million airplay"--whatever that means.
I just looked it up. "Jukebox Junkie" was a Number 8 hit.
Oh, and did I mention it's a dopey song.
