I wish they did a little more miniaturization. This is barely smaller than gluing an eink display right on top of a standard ESP32. The battery cell choice is responsible for the thickness as well.

If you want smaller go for a Bangle JS 2... It's got a load of goodies this doesn't, including app support, GPS, a touchscreen (with a memory LCD from sharp), and bluetooth. It is a chineese watch off the shelf, but with custom firmware, and it's a fairly nice watch. The other option is a PineTime smartwatch, it's only $25, but it doesn't have a Memory LCD display (That said it's infinitime software is arguably the best out of all the watches).

is it possible to pair this watch with phone for notifications of incoming calls and sms? maybe there is some other non-touchscreen smart watches with e-inc/e-paper display? P.S. what I am looking for is a basic smart watch with buttons, always on display, time in 24h, vibration notifications about sms and calls.

I bought one of these after watching this video. It's a completely broken piece of sh*t. The wifi connection doesn't stay connected. The usb connection to pc works some of the time and was able to install new watch faces but it's such a fiddly process that requires openning it up, unplugging the battery, replugging battery, replugging usb, setting up the settings in arduino IDE again, setting the watch into bootloader mode which there's no way to tell it's in that mode except that nothing works on it when it is. Sometimes the usb connection just drops randomly. Even the most basic function of just setting a correct time is ridiculous. I set it to the correct time and it somehow thinks 2024 means 1994. Or sometimes it gets the date correct but it thinks it's Friday when it's actually Monday. Everytime I do anything, it takes a few seconds for the screen to readjust to dark mode so it takes forever to do anything on it. Sometimes I click the back button and it doesn't do anything. I let it sit for a few seconds because I guess it needs that and then mash the back button until it responds and does anything. After spending all day today putting it together, trying to setup just to realize I need to take it apart to unplug the battery and doing that like 5 times, I'm chucking this thing in the garbage. Waste of $100 for the watch and this case.
