I still don't understand why punters don't get the respect they deserve. Giving the opposing team bad field position is an incredibly good defensive play.
Because the difference between the best punter in the league and the worst is generally only a few yards average per kick, so it doesn't really matter much in the end. There are very rare weapons like Ray Guy, Shane Lechler, Johnny Hekker and maybe now this Dickson kid that makes it really worth writing home about their punts.
Dickson has garnered a lot of interest after being the very rare punter taken in the draft, and even more rare for the Seahawks to trade up in the draft to be able to take him. His old fans back at Texas knew that it was a good pick to take him, but everybody else was baffled or amused. Reportedly Denver who was the one to trade with the Seahawks laughed out loud when they used their trade to go for a punter. As one of the commentators here said, he is leading the league during the preseason against all the veterans. If he stays healthy, he'll have a very solid career ahead of him.
@@Twistedb- Punters usually don't get those big instant season ending injuries but those repeated kicks do a number on their knees and they can deteriorate pretty quickly.
Thanks for this. I hope Dickson has a chance to show his teammates what the AFL is all about. It would be interesting to see their reaction to the sport.
thanks for including all the commentary banter.. giving us some context to the action .. a lot of others could take some notes... not all of us only have 3 second attention spans
The way Seattle's offense is looking he might win MVP with all the punts he's gonna get lmao. Kid's so good, makes you appreciate when a team has a good punter and can change the field or pin you inside the 5. You forget about special teams until your's sucks
Speaks volumes when a GM moves up in the draft to select you. It’s now obvious why John Schneider did just that. This kid is the real deal and a game changer. He has the ability to flip field position from anywhere on the field.
You can often get a much further distance on a drop kick, here in UK it's a well used tactic in both codes of rugby, have seen 60 yarders in rugby league (the variant Jarrod Hayne plays). Most players can drop kick goals ut the specialist kickers can take them even from wide out and at distance.
@@ynotnilknarf39 in American football, the ball is more geared for throwing, not kicking. Drop kicking in the NFL is a lot harder than it is in Rugby. Though it would be interesting to see drop kicks more in football
Best punter in the NFL 💯 Can tackle and improvise Still waiting on that first drop kick field goal which he is totally capable of. Aussie punter's are a different breed of punter's unlike the NFL has seen or are used to.
@@kanalparanoid7223 well youve definitely earned a sub then. you wouldnt happen to know where tom hackett ended up? he won the ray guy twice then tried out for the jets. guessing he didnt have the length on his torpedo that dickson does
@@kanalparanoid7223 hey bud is it possible for an offensive player to regather a punt to make a first down if they are behind the punter when he kicks? or does a punt just mean automatic handover?
In AFL all players tackle, all players cover miles during a game, some doing up to 10 miles in a game and every player will kick the ball 10 to 20 times a game, at stationary and moving targets, and kicking while on the run as well as stationary. By the time a boy is a teenager between games and training they have 10's of thousands of kicks under their belt (Drop punt, spiral punt, checkside kick, banana kick), it's no surprise Aussie Rules Football players have an edge over US kickers.
Nice to have such a great skilled punter, to fill john Ryan's shoes is a big order but he did great this season. Last 3 games the special teams coverage sucked and gave up a ton of big returns.
In American football the fullback lines up behind the quarter back and in front of the half back weird huh the fullback isn't really used for much other than creating running lanes for the half back maybe one or two times a season you will see the Seahawks give it to their fullback. But sometimes they pass to the fullback
seattle really need to work on holding the ball a little longer after the snap to give the coverage an extra second or so. if you watch tom hacketts highlights from utah he rolled right or left for two steps and would often kick back across field to make the ball take a bit longer. obviously the rushing is better in the nfl but there must be a way to steal a little more time.
Leo Raymundo those 4 games.... the raiders (wow), barely the cardinals. Lol. Lost to the rams at home and beat the cowboys, who aren’t that good, AT HOME! And you’re trying to seriously make a case. This team is trash. They can’t win in the road and barely win at home. Against teams over .500 they can barely get a W. They suck. The fact you even are so stupid to diss the undefeated rams who beat the broncos at mile high in the freezing conditions shows just how ignorant and delusional you are.
timing and knowing how to kick a ball for distance. If you're really good you can make the ball spiral just like a throw by kicking it across the laces, makes it more aero thus goes further. With the ball used in gridiron you could try to make the ball skid through after a bounce if you place it away from the returner, especially good for distance, but as mentioned back spin too hold the ball up is another good weapon to have.

A Higgs he first started punting in The UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS, in college. Now that’s talent
Michael has also learned the right tackle process...... Aussie Rules!!!!!!!
He should have pushed the guy out of bounds. :)

Great to see a fellow Aussie find his talents appreciated in the states ! Cool

This guy does some serious damage and is only a rookie. I've never been so excited to watch a punter.
Checkout mason cox who's from Texas and transition to afl, youll be impressed
More from this guy please
More from Dickson please!!
You know you are a good punter when you have the whole defense getting hyped by you

can he play Tackle?
Just kick it like a rugby league footy and put it in the corner. Is
there a rule that you have to kick the ball a certain way?
