That's what I was thinking like how would you clean all them up?

@@Nas3rSIM yes I’ve heard of Ohios reputation and it’s not the nicest. I’m sure there’s a lot of exaggerating but still, if you say this is the most nice thing they do than I’m worried over what it’s like when their not trying to be nice or heavens forbid trying to actually be “bad” (I know there’s better words you can use to describe it than just bad but I’m tired as hell and don’t have energy enough to think of any).

For those that aren't familiar with Lake Erie, this lake can be a dangerous lake due to its average depth of 200 feet. Because of this, shallow lakes like Lake Erie can have a shift in weather pretty quickly. I've witnessed this first hand. A friend and I went out to Lake Erie. We were 1-1.5 miles out when the weather changes from sunny and now a cloud in the sky to wind, clouds, and white caps. It was a struggle to make it back to shore but we made it. Even though the wetherman stated that it would be a hot sunny day 🤷♂️. I'll never do that again.
Even the name of the lake sounds creepy
200 feet is shallow???
Was it really that bad i mean if this was like the North sea yeah I would get your point but if it's just lake Erie then weather around that place can get crappy but not that bad compared to other places in America so I don't really understand things seem to be getting overly exaggerated can someone pls explain
@@france90999all the Great Lakes can be extremely dangerous. There’s a reason there’s 6-8k shipwrecks in the lakes
@@peterdragon6367 Okay thanks for explain lol English isn't my first language and I guess I learned something New today
"It's like finding a needle in a hay bale" was the most chilling line ever.
This happened when I was in elementary school. What many people today don't realize is that in the weeks leading up to the event, all of the elementary, middle, and high schools were invited to have their students write our names and a message on an index card to be placed into a balloon. So not only would there have been a sea of rubber carnage, but also thousands of index cards. At the time, it was an exciting thing to be a part of, and as kids, we never heard of the tragedy that had unfolded, just the disruption to the airports.
Thanks for highlighting this story!
Yeah, that was a bit of a trend back then. It was an experiment to see where your index card might travel to and who might find it and write you back. My elementary school did a balloon launch that was supposed to be featured on Good Morning America. I don't know if it ever was. I never received any reply to my index card.
When i saw this comment I said TO MANY WORDS but I read it anyway
Can confirm your a veteran and is apart of this tragedy event by the 17 year old channel, good grammars, etc. Cool! 👍
I knew I wasn’t mistaken that we wrote on cards for those balloons in my second grade class!
Yeah, my school in Holland MI did that in 86. My balloon and note landed in Sidney OH, about 200mi SE. The people whose property my balloon landed on wrote me a nice letter!
“Let’s show them our city is not a mistake”
*Makes their city seem even more like a mistake*
Unrelated but Zack’s voice is so relaxing, like he could tell me a story and I could either fall asleep or listen intently 😂
“And we put the faces of those missing fishermen on the balloons to raise awareness.”

Los Angeles had its own "Balloon Disaster" during the Opening Ceremonies of the *1984 Summer Olympics.* A metallic coated balloon got caught in a power line when they were released _in masse_ during the Opening and blew out the power for some of the outlying downtown area.
I know this because my Videotape machine was automatically scheduled to record the first 4 hours of it and the power outage stopped it. Luckily, I had already planned to have a friend come to my house to inspect it to make sure it was recording. It wasn't and he was smart enough to start the recording manually for me. So I lost only about 15-20 minutes of the recording or thereabouts.

My wife has a latex allergy, if she comes into contact with latex she'll stop breathing in a few minutes...
Watching that catastrophe unfold is really scary, I can't imagine what would have happened if we had lived in Cleveland back then...
And there probably are other people with the same kind of allergy, I can't imagine waking up in the morning and seeing the entire city covered in latex balloons...unless of course the people in charge of that event were mindful of that and used mylar balloons instead but I doubt it...
Actually back then all these BS allergies were a lot more few and far between as most foods didn’t have the level of bioengineering and processed ingredients that they do now.
@@Idkwhtpsipto Sadly that's true...
@@Idkwhtpsipto Yeah, right, its cuz of GMOs or something, totally. Lemme guess, celiac disease, bipolar disorder, those are all made up and definitely caused by bioengineered foods? I would love to see a single study showing latex allergy being caused by GMOs in food

Great video about this. I remember being there with my grandparents when I was 5 and seeing popped balloons everywhere for weeks afterwards when I went to Browns games with my dad.
Did they clear the airspace above the balloon launch?
If yall wondering yes they knew the ballons would eventually come back down but they would come down a little by little one by one making it easy to clean up. They also projected a lot of these ballons will go farther away from Cleveland and land somewhere more safely. Also they were aware of Lake eerie and projected 5-16% of the ballons will go there. But this ended in a disaster the ballons immediately came back down and 60% washed onto Lake eerie
