  • Social media addicts, gym lovers and even binge drinkers are all being targeted in the British Army's new advertising campaign to boost recruitment.
    It centres around building self-confidence in potential recruits, hopes to continue the success of a similar effort 12 months ago - which saw a record number of applications.
    But despite that, the size of Britain's armed forces last year continued to fall, for the ninth year in a row.

    When I was 18 I tried to join the U.S. Marine. Corps. To follow in the footsteps of my uncle's who I looked up to, more than my own father. I worked out to be able to pass the physical standards. I ran 3 miles at under 20 minutes I could do the pull ups easy and I was in great shape. I started the process and scored a 99 on the asvab. I was told I could do any job I wanted. Then they found out I stole some beer from a store when I was 15. That was it. All my training for nothing. I tried the other branches and they didn't want me either. I was so bummed I used to sleep under a marine corps flag while I was training. Anyways, after all these years I'm glad it happened that way. I do not respect the woke direction the US military is headed. It looks weak to me. All the vets I know are ashamed of what's happening in the military.

      Everyone lacks confidence in one way or another. Even in personal and professional goals that often requires motivation for them to continue. Even if they don't say it, they show it, especially when addressed upon it.

    • @benhalsall4120
      @benhalsall4120 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      This may be true, but it is beside the point. Sky news is here to shed light and make insightful comments on our society.
      They need to be explicit with their findings, and in order to do that they need to analyse them.
      Simply accepting what people say on interview without considering why/ how likely they are to admit something (in this case a lack of self - confidence) isn’t very helpful.
      To truly find out whether today’s generation lack a level of self confidence possessed by preceding generations, they have to do more research and analysis to come to a quality conclusion.
      This isn’t to say that everyone doesn’t lack confidence at some point or at some time in their life. It is commentary on whether today’s society lacks a level of confidence which can’t be acquired by quick fixes and instant gratification. A level of confidence that is diminishing in our society, which the Army try to address in their new Recruiting Adverts.

    Honestly, I would join up if I could and this advert, though not the primary reason for doing so, would be a factor. Being the target audience, I often feel that modern life is so easy, I can sometimes feel like there's no point to anything because where's the challenge. I realise challenges can be found outside the military, but joining is an obvious challenge that makes one objectively better than one would be had they not signed up and, personally, competence is everything in life. I'd be interested to know if others agree with me and what they have to say.
