- I Grew Up 80s is a touring exhibition in the UK showcasing hundreds of items from the 1980s. Curated by Matt Fox, it travels to museums up & down the country.
As we were staying in nearby Herefordshire for the Easter break, we decided to go & check it out!

Brilliant bit of nostalgia, also I love the Garbage Pail Kids T-Shirt Rob I used to collect the cards, I’ve no idea what happened to them. 💕
Thanks, Andrea. I still have my cards, although not as many as I remember.
Brilliant. Come and Praise, that took me back to a cold Monday morning early 1980s assembly. Hai Karate took me back to winning a bottle at a family do, then selling it to my Father for 50p Lol.
An amazing video full of nostalgia. The BMX Burner, I’ve still got mine and the Vektar, which I got for Christmas in 85. My Dad was very generous! Wish I still had that, I think my Dad gave it to one of his friends kids.
The Puma bag which I had for school, the Come and Praise book which I had at junior school, the list goes on!
I had a Stinger Aero BMX but would've loved the Vektar! I was only thinking of the Come and Praise book a few weeks ago, so was shocked to see one! Many fond memories of sitting on a cold school hall floor belting out those proper Jesus bangers! 👍🏻
@@RetroOrBust haha, yeah, we had Come and Praise and an older book to sing from, a proper old 70’s one called With Cheerful Voice, it was in a weird plastic green and blue/purple stripy cover, Come and Praise was the new one and we had to sing from both. The Vektar was quality, loved it, thought I was Street Hawk! Blaring out Capital Radio and firing various noises at people.
@@London_Native I always wondered what all the different buttons did!
@@RetroOrBust Radio, noise maker, something else I can’t remember. It also had some spare ports for future modules.
@@London_Native Future modules.... Sat Nav?! 😉
Loved the little ad-bars in the top corner like it used to be XD nice touch as always, young sir.
That was a last minute thing. It worked with the first set of ads but not with the second. Silly TH-cam 🙄
Wow! What a great exhibit! I remember having many of these things, and still have a few lying around! I particularly remember fighting with my brother and 2 sisters for the E.T. rub on transfers every week when mum got a new box of Shredded Wheat or Shreddies, and raiding my brothers wardrobe when he went out to play with his Casio VL-Tone organ.
Having dug out a few of my old 80's video tapes recently, I have to wonder whether I can still claim on the Scotch VHS tapes Lifetime Guarantee!
I still have the back of a box of Shredded Wheat with the ET transfers! I even found an unused Knight Rider slinger thing the other day that came with Shreddies & Shredded Wheat!
Interesting thought regarding the Scotch tapes! Wonder if they would honour it! 😂
Why did i throw so much of my stuff away. Great memories.
I'm the opposite.... I kept all my stuff! (Much to the annoyance of my wife!) 😂
I sang all the adverts for the products.... especially 're record, not fade away' (which I am going to have on the brain all flipping night lol)
😂
The music sounds like a flock of seagulls-i ran
I want to see this, I do have the 1983 smash hits mag with my favourite band the human league on the cover
I only have 2 Smash hits left from the early 90s 😔
I collect them, I only have a few. But it was my uncles era he had loads of them, sadly all thrown out from 83-87
Where's the James Bond watch
There wasn't one.
Very very cool, ive got a mint raleigh vektar and also the team burner, the blue puma bag is awesome!!! Hope you're well, have a fantastic weekend 😊
Thanks! Sooo jealous of your Vektar! There were so many items I didn't realise I needed til I went to the exhibition! 😂 I'm now on the lookout for one of the Philips Roller stereos. They look cool!
I found my vektar at a Carboot sale about 4 years ago, got it from the original owner for £45, there's an 80s themed video shop in alfreton near derby, it's called straight to video, he's got an 80s theme bedroom in a side room of the shop, very very cool 😎
