I hated Sybil at the start, and once she told Stefan her story and broke down her walls, I started to feel for her. she wasn’t born evil, she was made evil and forced to be evil. she just doesn’t want to be alone, she’s scared.
I loved season 8, and I loved Sybil because she understood Damon better than anyone. Partly why she had so much control over him, but also why she fought for him as hard as she did. She didn't think Stefan would admit the fact that Damon is just as much a victim. Like Stefan, he is both sisters because he and Stefan are one and the same. They've always been written that way. They eventually switched roles, then pulled another switch for the sake of their original roles. Sybil and Seline never mended their relationship. Unlike Stefan and Damon, they refused to see the other side of things. That's how it is with most of TVD's characters... they're victims who chose to become the very monsters who victimized them. Like Ripper Stefan victimizing his own brother by forcing him to turn, and in turn, Damon became the big bad vampire. Stefan was Katherine's victim, Katherine was Klaus' victim, Klaus was victimized by his father. It's quite a cycle.
