      Genuine question here, could this be because of a translation issue? Are there ever nonnative English speakers emailing you in English for your services? Obviously they could email in their language if you speak it but I'm just curious if maybe they choose not to every now and then or something.

    I've had two different pet apparel companies leave comments on a photo collage of my dog on Instagram asking to have her model their shit.
    It's a memorial collage I posted right after she quite literally _died in my arms_ from advanced lymphoma on our dining room floor, and I'm still devastated by it almost five years after the fact.
    I was not kind to either of them in my replies along the lines of "how dare you", "how negligent and lazy can you BE?", and "only if your bandanas can fit a fucking URN". They didn't even read the first LINE of the description.
    I gave both replies a week to be seen by them before deleting their original comment.

      She would have been an excellent model because she was a cute AF bugg (Boston/pug mix) with one white foot and a tail that looked like a capital letter P because it went straight up, bent at a 90° angle, and curled back around on itself. Our vet's best guess was that it was broken during birth and that was how it healed. Either way, it was absolutely adorable and made her tail mostly wag just to one side, lopsided. lol

    if someone mails you something unsolicited, it's illegal for them to then try to bill you for it. by law, that money and whatever else that person sent to your P.O. box was yours to be considered a gift and you were not obligated to return it or take the deal they suggested. next time, keep the money and if you feel like it, direct them to 39 U.S. Code § 3009 and tell them you've made a complaint to the FTC about their illegal marketing tactics. they can't send you unordered merchandise and expect anything from you, including you returning it. this kind of thing is often done as a scam to try to get people to pay for the merchandise at the other end, so the federal government really does not take kindly to it. it looks like they adapted that scam into an illegal and deceptive marketing practice to attempt to make you feel obligated to go along with it.

    • @thefaboo
      @thefaboo ปีที่แล้ว

      They *also* have to make it clear that it is a gift, or they can get into serious trouble. Cuecat (wow that was a long time ago) got into several kinds of legal trouble because they mailed out their barcode scanners unsolicited... then got mad at how people used them... then demanded them back. I'm pretty sure that PR stunt put them out of business.

    My first job was a purchasing agent. Didn’t take long to realize the best salespeople were respectful of your time, knew their products and customers. The really good ones actually saved you time. The really bad ones wasted tons of time. Be grateful they don’t show up in person, because you often have to go to great length to ditch them and their “important meetings”.

    • @Noon-jt7gi
      @Noon-jt7gi ปีที่แล้ว +51

      Me, the receptionist, fighting off the reps "important meetings" when all I/we need from them is a spreadsheet.
      Stop it, he's not going to call you back. I’m probably not going to even tell him you “popped by since you’re in the area”.
      But while you’re here….. got any free pens? 👀

    • @ziggystardog
      @ziggystardog ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Flash forward seven years… The startup was successful (in spite of bad salespeople) and moved into a new building. All the conference rooms are named after American Presidents, and being wise to the ways of sales reps, they added a small unnamed conference room behind the receptionist as a sort of penalty-box holding cell for salespeople. The phone guy was a joker, so on the phone system when you got calls from salespeople in the room, its extension showed up as “The Clinton Room”.

      Used to work at a local pet store (3 employees and the owner) and our distributors kissed ASS. They'd travel to our island (expensive) from elsewhere in the country and buy us coffee and lunch, bring free product merch for us, be available for support at all hours if we had any questions or issues, and so on. Because there are a lot of pet product distributors and they want to keep as many clients as they can.
      It's shocking that there are companies out there trying to get content creators to work with them and then being disrespectful. What an absolute waste of time for everyone involved. If you're willing to sink some money into a creator advertising for you at least leave them with a good impression 😬

Obviously that’s not viable, although I’d love to send something to a couple big TH-camrs who are into the same fashion substyle and have liked my stuff on insta…unfortunately I don’t even currently have time to make an extra item to do so though, so it really boggles the mind that someone I don’t know with no following would ask me to make it for them for free. It’s incredible!
    This whole thing reminds me of how TWiT practically spearheaded the integrated ad reads in podcasts & YT videos over a decade ago, but I suppose many of these marketing people are trying to take advantage of the solitary nature of most TH-cam creators and social media influencers-instead of dealing with larger creators who probably have an employee specifically for dealing in ads.
    I get a lot of messages in my DMs, and they’re usually obvious scams. Thankfully, most of the socials flag them on their own.

    As someone who is not, and for the foreseeable future will not ever, be involved with influencer/ content creator/ etc culture, it is absolutely fascinating to see a peak behind the curtain. Like opening the front door at a friend's house just to see a tsunami barreling towards you, but like no one's worried about it.

    I'll be honest, I'd love a doomsday prepper supply crate video, they're from what I've heard mostly horrible, but I'd love to have you sample a few products and see what they are like.

    a company /will not leave me alone/ that makes skincare that they SAY is targeted for the trans community. the creators are not trans, no one on their board of directors are, and they do not seem to understand why i'm not interested. (plus the products /seem/ like a quick money grab but I can't be sure because I keep refusing to work with them)

      Also, how would that even work??? People are people, I know trans people who are actively transitioning may have more hormonal acne cause duh, but like its not like their skin is Suddenly Trans! Its just like regular hormonal acne???

    I get blasted by these types of passive aggressive follow up emails all the time. At a office job. I get...'I guess you're not the right person. 'I guess you don't want help with ____' 'you probably deleted my last email' 'why are you ignoring my email?' I just let them seethe into the void of the junk mail folder.

    I'm a small fry so people reach out very infrequently. I did get one because I did a review on a chair and it was a company clearly looking for backlinks so they could boost their seo presence. They wanted a link on that video dispite the fact that I didn't buy from that site. Refused to send a product for review and insisted on paying a $50 commission that I was sure would never materialize.

    The first thing you want to do when you're trying to sell ANYONE ANYTHING, is convince them why they NEED your product. What is your product gonna provide to them that they NEED? If they can't do that, they suck. Everything else is secondary. But you also still have to treat the buyer as a human. 10 times out of 10 people will by from the guy that seems neighborly over the cocky butthole type.

    Not an influencer but I've been getting weekly emails since 2020 regarding a nursing job that a company wants me take. I applied for a job with them in 2016. I got no reply. But now? They want me. I'm not even a nurse any more. I've called them but the emails keep coming. Never ever working for them

  • @JoshBearheart
    @JoshBearheart ปีที่แล้ว

    Most of the emails I get are from MCNs trying to get me to sign up, promising to "grow my channel" and complimenting me on just how amazing my videos are, and I need their services to spread my channel to the world. Maybe one day I will get sponsorship offers, but really, I am not interested in the idea of paid sponsorships unless I think it will be something positive for my audience. I am focusing on my own brand and selling my own products as a way to eventually (hopefully) make some money on this endeavor.
    These kinds of videos are really helpful to those of us who only aspire to one day be in the position where our inboxes are flooded with offers, it's good to see someone else's perspective and get some ideas for how to handle those situations.

    I don't really do much in the way of content, but since I have a few comics running, I got both Emails and DMs a while back about a webcomic platform that was NFT based (but also denied being nft based despite using the terminology and their main gimmick was being web3) ages ago, that was a laugh

  • @keghan4824

    Dang, it makes perfect sense that companies would start doing this, but I hadn’t considered the idea of creator loans. That’s scary. So many teens and young adults would love to be influencers/creators, so I’m sure they are more susceptible to whatever bs promises these companies make. Sounds really sleazy.

    You're assuming these marketers take time and care with any of this. I used to work for a company where apart from being the receptionist, it was also my job to scrape people's emails off Linked in profiles and collate them into a spreadsheet for my boss to send out his email flyers. I also had to create the email flyers. But at no point was there any personalisation or research into the targets going on. These companies do not take the time to build a community the way that you do, Amanda. They copy and paste.

    Maybe I'm wrong for this, because so many people do it, but I can't even imagine just emailing content creators and asking them to promote something of mine. Oh, don't get me wrong, it would be totally AWESOME, but it feels disrespectful. Oh, and, young woman you ABSOLUTELY should consider consulting for a charge. I mean mental health has gone all Zoom and MS Teams, why not consulting too? I honestly believe you'd be great at it. Good luck out there. Give your dog a hello for me.

    I can't stand seeing reviews and the reviewer doesn't flat out tell you right away they got a review version free from the company making the thing being reviewed. It means they are most likely taking it easy on the review and take anything they say with a grain of salt. Swell is one of a handful of reviewers I will watch that I know go through the whole experience of purchasing, unboxing, and using things that are reviewed so you get the whole experience from start to finish reviewed and it's wonderful.
