The court is upholding the law. If it is necessary to rewrite the wall, this should be up to the house and the senate or the legal representatives of that state. The Supreme Court upheld federal law.

@@Iseerightthruyouthere’s nothing in the treaty the Navajo are citing that says anything about water. If it’s too hard where they live they are free to join modern society and have access to the water the US provides for its citizens and other people who live here. As long as Indians want to maintain a quasi-independent autonomy they have to mostly provide for themselves. I know it’s incomprehensible to leftists like you to think people must take care of themselves without being coddled by a government but it’s how every human lived for all of history up until very recently. Also American states AND the federal government which Joe Biden and the Dems currently control were the defendants. So your siding with native Americans over America? Sounds like a typical leftist unfortunately.

I know the disappointment is extreme. I am Apache. For the people on the reservation, what is the realistic alternative strategy now that SCOTUS has made its decision? How does this impact the ruling by Winters? One thing that was common among indigenous culture was the concept of learning by trial-and-error. When the cougar hunts, it doesn't succeed automatically. It learns by trial-and-error and gains intelligence, strength and speed to finally succeed in hunting. So, a serious attempt was made to obtain water rights via the "system" but SCOTUS rules against the Navajos. Now, the Navajos have insight into what they are dealing with in regards to the modern federal government and the Winters decision long ago. With that new information, is there now another pragmatic path of realism that can be strategized to obtain the water needed for the impoverished communities? Path A didn't work, so then what is Path B? There must be some degree of pragmatism and optimization of water access that could be achieved in spite of the ruling. Life goes on. As for me, given the sociological problems on the reservation and border-town racism, I left the reservation for a career decades ago and am now an engineer with six master's degrees. I am currently working on a PhD in AI/ML while working as a corporate engineer.

Obviously we now know we have problems in our Supreme court.
All those judges that voted against the Navajo Nation having access to water, violated their Oath of office-which is against the law under U.S. Code.
You see, according to our U.S. Constitution's very first paragraph, ( which is what our Constitution means), each and every citizen is entitled to assistance from the federal government for their "General Welfare".
General Welfare are those in need of food, water, shelter and medical.
I would charge those Supreme Court judges with U.S. Code-Violation of Oath of office and remove them from their position immediately, since they took an oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution.
Do nothing, and it risks the rights of all citizens.
    Native Americans are U.S. Citizens.
No one is above the laws of our land! Nobody!
Congress is responsible for each and every citizen's "General Welfare"-before passing votes lobbyists bring to them.
Another thing, how many counties in states do not even provide trash pickup? We all pay high property taxes and trash should be included where the county owns the roads with homeowners.
Like in PA, homeowners are required to pay for their trash removal, in most places. MD does pick up all the trash, that I know of. Including yard cuttings as long as their in short bundles tied up. MD also has free bulk pickup for large furniture, etc. MD also picks up your leaves.
It's unfair to provide free trash pickup for some communities and not others...:-(

This is breathtaking news with the understanding that the Supreme Court would uphold the law rather than the interest of a small minority of people. The court stated that an age all the law is very specific with this regard, and the federal government has no responsibility to go against the law. This does not mean that the American Indians cannot use their own resources to obtain water. Water can be obtained from underground springs and underground reservoirs. Water can be game from the atmosphere. This would be up to the American Indian tribe to take the initiative rather than the federal government according to the law.

There is nothing to prevent your stride from trucking in transports of water to underground to cisterns. And are also companies who provide bottled water. Water is one of the most plentiful resources on earth. The earth is primarily covered with water. Water is readily available and we just need to know how to make the best use of it. Thanks for your post however, I would urge that you attempt to broaden your outlook and expand your thinking, but nevertheless, stay safe and stay healthy.

You have the normal ground then you have the Mogollon plateau. That adds up to 5000 feet. I understand that there is water everywhere. But I live in a desert. If you look at a population map of this area you can see that we all live in the Rio Grande valley. There are some who don't, like the Nation. They are at the edge of the aquifer. The cost to drill below 2000 feet is insane. They are not a wealthy tribe.
