I'm really glad you took the time cover this! I'm critical of most VTTs and don't see myself ever using this one, but that does NOT mean that I'm uninterested in your VTT videos. It's fascinating to see the various attempts at making TTRPGs work online, even if I have my own opinions about how successful they are at doing so.
There's a very small and interesting VTT I've been trying out as an experimental alternative to Owlbear Rodeo - it's in pretty early stages and I can't say I prefer it totally, but it may be neat to take a look at. It's called Dungeon Club, made by Theoretically Online, and it has similar basic tools to Owlbear for quickly setting up games on the fly, but with a few more things in mind for longer-form campaigns, including an initiative tracker, built-in condition markers, and persistent character tokens. It even has a small built-in soundboard, with music playlists for a handful of common situations and the ability to layer rain or crowd noises over top at the click of a slider. I definitely recommend giving it a look, if for no other reason than to keep an eye on where it goes from here =)
Oooo! I hadn't heard of this one, but it is going right to the top of my list of stuff to check out! As much as I love my more robust, complicated VTTs for some games, I constantly find myself leaning into the simpler, more elegant ones. Thanks for the recommendation!
That walking is smooth. At this point someone should just include a fpv camera for the players and the gm can litmrally watch over them in the top down camera
It looks neat, but my biggest problem with this is that I immediately recognize almost all of the unity assets that were used to make this. The POLYGON packs by Synty Studios just stand out like a sore thumb in every game I see them in unfortunately... they're good for prototyping, and I get that this is an early access build, but yeah... it's not an art style that I'm personally fond of.
You know, I totally get that. The style definitely isn't going to be for everyone. I actually had intended on mentioning that, but that narration was lost to slapdash script rewrites. Thankfully, the visuals speak for themselves, since I forgot to do so lol.
God, fuckin' love this dude. I'm subbed to all his channels. Fun fact: I first fell in love with his content because he happened to mention in the video that I was watching at the time, that he was pansexual. Well, so am I! Hmm... ...Now I just need to find a gender-fluid content creator.
It's good to have competition in VTTs.. I'm a bit worried about the trend though. Flashy visuals seem to be an effective marketing tactic.. and that's the least important thing in a VTT for me. I want them to help me keep track of all things going on with the characters and the campaign.. automatically when possible.
That's a legitimate point. Especially for bigger campaigns with more complicated character sheets and whatnot, and the promise of lots of locations/battles. For running a medium to large sized game, I tend to lean much more into function over fashion. But if I was going to do something smaller, with a much tighter focused, something like this might be nice. OR...maybe my next video is going to be covering a vtt that is perhaps the greatest blend of function AND fashion that I've seen... ;)
I'd like to know what tool you'd recommend if I wanted every player to be viewing first person mode. The only 2 I know of are Gary's mod and Minecraft. But I don't know how a GM would work for that.
are hexes an option? I play lancer and I want a map that lets me show different heights for maximum mecha mayhem and this seems like a great way to do that but it needs to have hexes.
At the moment, no, but I would not be surprised if they planned on it. Though they did release an update literally a few days after I released this video, so who knows at this point hehe
@@allenqueen There was a patch released this week which added community map sharing - over time there should be a bunch of user made templates available, this plus additional tools will help speed the build process up massively!
Can someone please suggest a dnd-like tabletop rpg simulator? I don't have enough friends to play the usual way. Also, I have a VERY inconsistent schedule. Thanks in advance!

I love the RPG Engine, great community… and an Alpha which competes with the big guys is worth following. Thanks for this review!
Interesting RPG engine! Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Can't wait til it's "full release" and the possibilities of a Steam Workshop
Thank you
TTS needs more love!

I see Dungeon Newbie, I watch Dungeon Newbie

I want it

Hexes certainly are an option! It has been a busy year of updates and hopefully you can check out what we have done!
It looks really nice, but I run 3 campaigns each weekend. I would have to quit my full time job to make 3d maps for 3 campaigns every weekend lol
the time taken to make these 3d maps is the biggest hurdle.

Great review, but once again, the hate came out for TTS. My man. Please let me show you how I run my CofD game on TTS.
It’s been weeks! I crave a new video!
Wish granted. In 15 minutes.

Hay would you check game master engine...it seems similar to the rpg engine
Could you do a how to play on Big Eyes Small Mouth 4th Edition? It's a tri stat universal system, I think you'd like it!
People still play that system? Cool. Didn’t know it had a 4th edition.
It's on my list!
OH shit the graphics are horrible
