As someone who is a former mechanic and now a telemetry and control systems specialist, I can't wait to get going on my project! After seeing this and other videos of installation and wiring, I'm eager to put my expertise in use and on display.
your engines will be my engine when I build my zen super cruser. on the "140 MPH Zenith from Florida to Texas" episode i noticed the super cruser had a different center leading edge and different windshield. do you know how to make that modification? or who can thanks i have seen most of your videos. thanks for them
Lithium Titanate might be a good alterantive...they are vastly more robust than pretty much any other lithium battery, they are also capable of high rate charge/discharge.
Awesome video! I'm getting more and more confident and comfortable with vikings engine's! I'm excited to start my 750sd! Is the 180 much more noticeable in takeoff than the 130? Wold love a demo right before I order one!
Always welcome for a demo ride. Either here or when we travel to the factory in MO, the SD is a much larger airplane in weight etc., but takeoff distance with both the 750 and the 750 SD with either engine is similar. We have a lot of videos showing the SD flying on here that takeoff in no time due to the thrust - without even trying :)
I’m looking at purchasing a ch 801 with a Honda motor with 245hp is what I’m told. I’m trying to find out if Viking built this motor or if it was home built with the plane also. Can Viking check out this motor if I purchased the plane?
Hi Jan, very interested in the belly pod added behind of radiator. You mentioned that Viking will have it for sale. I looked at your website and did not find it. Can you make a video of it, including the installation.I am planning to build a 750 SD and very much leaning to get the Viking 195 with header tank, in-flight adjustable propeller and belly pod ......!
Yes, we do have them - we had it all laser cut. Haven't added them onto the store, but the whole belly bod kit is $995. Haven't had the opportunity to make a video on one yet, but when we do it will be uploaded.
Just not being able to fully monitor voltage is an issue, but in one install we had to replace the batteries 2 times due to bulging. Haven't had issues with the older batches we had (like the ones in the SD) mostly with the newer. They are lighter and provide better cranking amps, but the fact that the batteries will protect themselves if there is an issue instead of the engine.
Every time I see something on this engine I can't help but wonder how well it would perform on a STOL CH 750 compared to the non-turbo model. The extra 40 pounds obviously wouldn't be the greatest thing, but the added performance might make it worthwhile.
We did this many years ago when we first introduced the engine we tested it in the Cruzer model. Makes the plane very nose heavy and the aircraft performs like a best with the 130 already, so no need for the extra cost / complexity
@@eggenfellner Thanks for the response, I'm no expert just a lay person , I think due to the rpms vs torque of the "195" it would be effectively a 180 HP for a 4 place bearhawk. What's your input & thanks in advance?
I'm not sure of the torque on those two, but our torque chart for this engine is here www.vikingaircraftengines.com/engine-options - because we are geared we tend to have a lot of torque at the propeller.

Did you get it done?
Cant wait to see the engine installed in the BD-4C.
I'm working on that video now!
Time: 3:45 inercooler, why did you switch from the large cooler to this one?

how wide is the super duty at the firewall? inches? And Hight ?

Is anyone putting this Engine in a Rans S21 yet? What other airframes has this engine been sold for? Excellent video Thank you
Jan, what issues have you encountered with the Earth X battery? I've been running 1 for 2 years.

Yeah, I kinda figured that was the case. But I like to dream. Good info, as usual. Thanks.
Is that a crack in the elbow at 7.13?
No, the angle just makes it look that way :)
I was mulling around the Zenith 801 Super Duty spec info, but my question is would this engine work effectively in a bearhawk 4 Place model B?
We have our engines in the Zenith 801 - it can definitely be done on the Bearhawk, a popular question lately.

Honda 2000 or what? Type R?
L Turbocharged Accord is typical for this installation.
