i just picked up an 01 allroad that needed some love for pretty cheap. fixed a water leak shorting out tcm, replaved tcm, cabin filter, air filter, just ordered front susp kit to tighten up the front end and man i love the power of this motor even stock... cant wait to stage 2 it

I still watch this vid. I watched it before i bought my 2003 2.7 A6, and i still watch it after. Car looks so sexy from the black headlights to the RS6 door blades. Black roof is sick.

I am looking to buy a 2000 year of this car, but I got a good deal on it... I'm not rich.. should I buy it, or would it be a money pit? How reliable are these and what breaks easy?

It's a bit of a money pit... If you have the time and aptitude to do the work yourself then it can be an alright car. Google Audi a6 2.7t buyers guide and you'll find out some of the common problems. It's not uncommon to see bad turbos... I have a b5 s4 that has the same engine and I have over 248k miles on it. Lot's of maintenance though.

So what about turbo upgrades? Like the rs4 K04s? Or a tune? Lighter flywheel? Or did you just do cosmetic?
Mostly cosmetic. There are some plans for light performance upgrades in the future.
Trent Bratt from what they wrote it has 250hp so I'm guessing no turbo upgrades. i recently upgraded to K04 on my 2000 a6. hella expensive. had to upgrade software and clutch to stage 3. but now I'm putting almost 385hp love my side chic.
Billy BManic how much did you pay? I was going to get the silly rabbit motorsport k24, injectors,maf and tune for $2500 for my 2.7t. Plan was to get close to 500 to the ground

How's maintenance? Are they high to maintain? Thinking about this 4.2 as a first car
Hey Zavon,
Don't know much about the 4.2 but here is what I know about the 2.7t.
The maintenance is a bit more than your typical daily driver since the engine is crammed into the bay. The dealership and shops will charge a pretty penny.
The good news is that if you decide to get your hands dirty there is a wealth of DIY write ups for the B5 S4 that share the same 2.7t engine. Chances are that you will have to invest in new tools each time you work on it especially if you are new to VW / Audi.
