- The Woodman Inn at Charlestown, midway between Hebden Bridge and Todmorden, was built in 1902.
In use for almost 100 years, the pub, like most roadside pubs, has been closed for at least 2 decades.
Various attempts to knock it down, renovate it, build on the site, etc. have all been opposed and thwarted, which leaves it as an abandoned eyesore on the roadside. But is it truly abandoned?
Reports over the decades have seen landlords and staff talk of supernatural activity within its walls, and specifically in the cellar.
A rare opportunity to record this historic location arose, so here it is. A midnight urban explore on my own.....or am I??
Ignore any reference to 'subscriber only', I thought that was an option....but its 'paid members' only, so instead its here for all watchers of The Dark Side of the Moor. Thank you so much for your growing and continued support of the channel.
Me and my son explored this recently… once we went into the cellar the light on my iPhone stopped working, and only started working again when we went back up the stairs. Very spooky indeed.
@tommyj361 yeah, it's the cellar that reportedly has a history of haunting.....hope you enjoyed the explore though 🙂
@@matparks08I’m almost tempted to go back into that cellar and see if I can catch anything on camera, or even try communicating with the ghosts lol, would make for an interesting night.
Interesting Matt, spooky place, you were brave to go into that cellar 👻
Ha....yeah, I thought about that afterwards in a kind of 'what were you thinking' moment 😬
used to be a popular venue for under age drinkers from Tod & Hebden back in the 70s... packed out on Friday & Saturday nights.... last bus 11.10pm back to Tod...great times...
Good Times indeed. I guess if the last bus was missed it'd sober you up walking back to Tod 😊
Another great video mate. Such a shame that a huge historical pub like this is left abandoned. Let’s hope one day soon it’s back to its former glory!
It is a shame, but likewise I think it would have gone a long time ago if permission had been granted to knock it down. Thanks for watching 😊
Hello matt , this is a great video glad you managed to get into a place that is close to your heart thank you for showing us around this beauty of a pub i love how all the old features are still here, great video mate i love it. 👍
Glad you enjoyed it. It was pretty creepy filming at night.
@@matparks08 yeah i bet, i mean its good content lol.
Im just having a binge on peoples vidoes Ive been missing recently. Either from being busy or not getting notifications! Anyway pal, you know I love a good, abandoned building and this is a win-win with it reportedly being haunted! Superb video again.
Cheers Chris. Weirdly I thought 'I need to catch up on Days of Horror' tonight too. 😊 yeah, this is the one you've been to before. Was amazing to finally see inside....creepy as hell too 😅
@@matparks08 We walked past it but it looked boarded up so we didnt bother looking into it. BTW, we have an interesting story in Whitworth coming up and as we spoke last month, Im thinking of trying that old school whilst there. Two birds and one stone comes to mind ;-) I'll message you if you are still interested.
It's been totally sealed for years ,but not just at the moment thankfully 😊. Sure sounds like a plan 😀
Brilliant video Mat. Bit spooky. Rather you than me, especially at night time 👻
Ha....yeah, was pretty creepy this one 😉
my parents were landlord and landlady there back in the late 60s and early 70, i was born behind the bar (during opening hours while customers watched on) when my mumm went into labour and I wasnt waiting for my first beer!!! (true story)
Ha, that's brilliant. How many of the locals over the next few decades said to you 'I remember you being born behind that bar". Thanks for watching
Sad 😢
Yeah, good memories for some people, this place. Shame to see it looking so bad.
Great video Matt..such a shame buildings like this go to ruin..Thanks for being brave enough to take us in for a look around ✌️
Yeah, I don't understand why it's been left like this. The planning permission for the site has gone in multiple times but gets refused....so the building looks like this instead. As you can hopefully tell, I enjoyed this one...doing it at night was bonkers 😅
🤣🤣🤣
Must've been a beautiful place in it's heyday. ty for letting us join your explore. and.. bring some form of a mask with you , or ventilator thing in case of asbestos.
Thanks for watching. Much appreciated 🙂
Spooky. At 9:09 I could swear I heard a ghost playing the piano?
Haha..ya daftie! 😅..... that was me on my tiny piano 😉
Eeck, be careful, looks a bit dangerous! Interesting though, doesn't seem like 20 years since it closed.
Very dangerous really, but was very careful. Was glad to film it. It was a regular pub of my brothers. I'm sure he said they had fish in the entrance or something? Thanks for watching 😊
Spent many nights in back in the 80s 😀
Good Times 😊
Rather you than me Matt ❤
😅.
Spent some time in there when it was open.
I bet it was a decent place. My brother spent a lot of time here too.
@@matparks08 Yes it was popular with people from Tod and Hebden Bridge.
