Congrats Matt on the new building I'm sure Mike will have fill in no time. I know you still have a lot of work to do but in the end it will all be worth it. 👍👍
I love pallet racking. For all you gantry guys... Two pallet rack uprights with four cross beams is plenty to hoist pick up beds off of frames, or cabs off frames. Very stable to work around. tHanks for the video
Iron Trap Garage has come a long way in the few years I've been watching. Matt and Mike, you've made a hobby or your passion into a real productive business. Congrats and best of luck going forward!
Building is coming along so awesome, MATT and MIKE! Sorry, but yes, I was concerned about the handrail, but, knew that you would deal with it!! Wish I was 20 years younger, and could come up there and help!! Kansas City. so I will have to just keep watching! Love your videos, THANKS A LOT!!
I’ve been watching you guys for a few years no and it is amazing how far you’ve come in a short time. Hard work and dedication to your craft has got you there. Thanks for another fine video.
I first saw these metal racking used as a building about 25 years ago. My mentor used it as the wall studs and boy was it strong. He got them free in the 70's when the company he worked for bought new stuff. Anyway, you can park a tank on it. What a great use for this stuff. Plus you have shelving for parts double you usable space.
Should check with your salvage people for old style turbine roof vents that turn when temperature rise and draft up and out., will help keeping building kinda cool in summer without running electric. Looks good so far can't wait for next treasure hunt guys.
I work in a big shed (about four acres) that has insulated walls and roof. It may never be worth your while to do in a parts shed, as you said. It does make a big difference, though, if you're ever crazy rich and wondering what to do with the money. Also, strip skylights are worth a thought. Great result with the mezzanine, by the way. Iron Trap Garage seems to be continuously growing and prospering, thanks to the hard work you guys do.
I, lighthartedly, predict you will not have room to park Big Red in the building in a few short weeks. It's a great plan but I think I've watched enough to know Matt will fill that building quickly and you will be looking for more storage space. Greetings from Phoenixville.
You might consider adding some L brackets on the upper floor to the outside wall to stabilize the upper floor. Also maybe some railing posts that connect the floor to the roof trusses. Everything looks amazing!!
Now, that's what I call a shed! It's cavernous compared to my little workshop, but I built what would fit at the back of our suburban block, and it's getting lots of use, even though space is limited.
This is great how you are growing your business and keeping the old vehicles alive putting your warehouse next door to your shop is great. I've seen a few buiness set up like how you have your shop and warehouse set up. Like the house of wheels. Pete Paulson he makes steelies, rallies, and such old school race car driver been in business for year's in California. I bought my first set of wheels from Pete Paulson went to his buiness it was set really cool. Keep on keeping on 👍🏾
So damn proud of you guys! Great addition to your business. Watched you guys since? Forever! Keep on keep on trucking guys. Wish you had been in business when I built my 32’s!!!! Shit. Now I do nothing!!!!
Any plans for lighting, overhead or otherwise? What you guys did looks amazing! This addition is going to be so much more useful to have everything close at hand!
Awesome for you guys !!! What an accomplishment. Almost be nice to see roof cover over the area between the garage & warehouse. That way you could make a doorway from the shop into the warehouse for easy winter picking. Plus you could put your compressors there. To make more room for Fab stuff. That & having it isolated there would take away noise for filming. I am Happy for you guys & watching your upward progress. Ty for taking us along
Great idea! Looks like the work has only just begun. Was also thinking because of the nice birch finish on the plywood to put a couple coats of sealant to protect the finish.
Making it safe and sturdy comes first! After that, you can think about modifications for heat and cooling as you get time and money. Good lighting is a must, too! Congratulations!
Careful about stuffing items up on your trusses. The engineered truss values can be compromised. The building and organization of racks is a great addition to your work flow. Thanks for sharing.
Great plan. Looks like maximum use of the floor space! You are going to need lighting for the shop equipment along the wall. You could add shelving over the equipment for some extra light storage in the future and to bring the lighting closer to your machines.
Looking awesome! Once again, all your hard work is paying off! It's been a pleasure to watch your channel and business grow! I'll do my part and keep buying parts and merch! Go Iron Trap, thank you, and keep moving forward!
Good job ! Mike will be in his element wiring outlets, fans & lights. Maybe on the right wall side between the racking & the wall, weld some large X braces to mitigate the wobble in the structure? Here in Aus, we need to bolt the uprights down and add a "shin guard" on each one to stop fork lifts damaging the bottom of the uprights.
For your railings, since your structure is steel how about stake pockets and removable sections like on a stake bed truck. It's more time and money but far more flexible.
Great work guys! I agree with Matt’s view it’s easy for other people to point out what you should be doing but it’s Matt that’s footing the bill so do what ever works for you and your budget 🙂👍
Looking really good, used to do Architectural Salvage, we had a 3 story building plus full basement, we didn't heat it or air-condition the building just the two offices, the workshop in the basement, and a restroom.. Did that for 10 years with no problems. We even had a dry fire sprinkler system (heated the valve room). You guys definitely have the right idea.
It's great! I'm renting an un-airconditioned shop in Austin, Texas and with box fans it's not a big deal. Besides your summer is almost over, so... We have another six months.
Love it overall! Can't wait to see how Mike organizes all that space. You're off to a great start. I still really think you'd find a small garage door right there at 14:58 very useful for shuffling bigger parts, bodies and even entire cars between the two buildings.
Way to go guys. A lot of hard work that will pay you back in the future. To bad you had to interupt Moon's nap time, I am sure that he didn't enjoy that very much.😎🏁
Hey Matt, interesting story about Glicks. It got it's start in my hometown of Jackson Michigan. Louis Glick, the founder my dad knew as a child (my father would be 100 on July 1 this year) he remembered when he was just a "rag picker" with a wagon and a horse. He went on to found Glicks iron and metal. He had 3 sons that expanded the business further. Most of the yards go under the Corporate name of Omnisource now. I'm surprised yours still uses the Glick name.. It also has another division called Alro Steel. Basically, it's a metal seller for small shops and home fabricators. His last son passed away about a year ago. He left every employee $8500. Talk about a great bonus.
@@josephdougherty2399 Yes sir and you can get your stuff cut (for a fee which is nominal) and they have smaller pieces that they sell off at a reasonable price.
Maybe you should add a man-door to the new shop opposite the existing man-door on the side of the old building.(See 15:09) That way you can go from the old to new shops maybe with a small roof over the walkway between them. Great for rainy or snow days.
*super cool!* congrats fellas on this big (expensive) step! it's a smart move and i look forward to updates going forward. hope ya plant some green and maybe a tree or bushes too.
Hey Guys,, I would suggest box tube rails setting in C channel on the uprights, with pins or clips holding them. That way you have a ridged railing that can be removed. Or you can make a solid railing that has 2 or 3 sections that can slide open.
Now you could have used that big old fork truck for putting big stuff up on top shelf, and are you going to install a big fan in the far side wall in the eve i would use iron rails and not chains cause if you fall on chains they move and you could go ahead and fall
Have you guys considered a big ceiling fan to move air around? Going to McMaster Carr will call, They have a GIANT ceiling fan ( literally called a Big Ass Fan ) that made their warehouse SUPER comfy.
Ignore all the negative Nellies, keep going you@ve come such a long way in a few years. I watched one of the free T videos recently and if you look back at that, you are on an amazing roll!
You guys are killing it. I’m enjoying watching hard workers press forward for the win.
Congrats Matt on the new building I'm sure Mike will have fill in no time. I know you still have a lot of work to do but in the end it will all be worth it. 👍👍
Nice work fellas. Knocked it out of the park.😊
I love pallet racking. For all you gantry guys...

So happy for you guys, I'm loving the progress you're making. You've really got a whole "Iron Trap Complex" going now.
I work in a big shed (about four acres) that has insulated walls and roof. It may never be worth your while to do in a parts shed, as you said. It does make a big difference, though, if you're ever crazy rich and wondering what to do with the money. Also, strip skylights are worth a thought.

The building is coming together GREAT! I need to make a trip down sometime and check it all out.

Yes! I was thinking that too. Tying everything together like that for stability and safety.
Nice! Growing and building equity in a inflated economy. Keep riding that perfect wave!

Good Morning Matt & Mike, your facility is definitely improving!!
Great project, building looks great. You mentioned a roof vent fan, made a noticeable difference in my shop. It is surprising how much air moves.
Great to watch this channel/hobby/business grow, nice to see the results of all the hard work and long hours you guys put in.
Thanks 👍

I do love it when a plan comes together!
Incredible amount of work! It's going to be nice and functional. Insulate the compressor in its own little cubical.
Great progress. I was wondering about heat but it makes a lot of sense to not waste the money doing it all.
Freinds and family, always a big help looking great plus lots of room for signs!
Kickin ass guys. Loving it. Your doing it!!!!! Thanks for the shows. Good luck on everything. Love the cars you are bringing back....
Drop in pockets along on the uprights for railings and chains between would allow access to skids on the edge of the mezz. OSHA on hand rail is 42".
The building and your plans are strong additions to your business. I think you will be amazed how it all will streamline your operation.
Mike is awesome, and good to see he had plenty of help also, God Bless everyone involved
I have followed from the beginning, very impressive how much you guys have accomplished and having a great life in the process!!

Really like your new building! One tip, paint or seal your plywood. It makes it so much easier to sweep.
Thanks for the tip!

That should help a lot and the shelfing looks great good job . Mike wont know how to act with heat and a/c
Man thats a large size Mezzanine for you to hoard parts in! Looks awesome with the new hippie drainage retention!

Definitely not planning to put much if anything up there

Mike has a lot of wiring to run
That's the plan!
Half assed customs set his tools/ lights under pallet racking-VERY TIDY!
You could extend the floor space over part of the open area to give you more storage area on the mezzanine.
Bloody awesome 🎉 man you guys put in the work on that racking way to pull together team
Impressive hustle, keep on pushing. Great workplace culture.......

Looks good guys a lot a lot of work in a short period of time in one of the hottest stretches of weather we've had in a long time Good job
Very nice, it's Great to see expansion!!
Hey Guys,,
I would suggest box tube rails setting in C channel on the uprights, with pins or clips holding them. That way you have a ridged railing that can be removed.
Or you can make a solid railing that has 2 or 3 sections that can slide open.
Lights would be nice too.
Grate job guys looking good see you on the next one from steve c from state Oregon usa
Looking good, It's great seeing how far you've come, I guess Matt is never ever moving house!

That was way too big for using it inside that building.
Very Nice job guys
Simply amazing !!!

Oh, my God! That is really stellar! You guys are amazing! Not to forget to mention- brilliant!!

Should do a video on the old warehouse
Looks Great guys
Can the lower section of stairs fold up to utilize the space under them for small parts ?
Looks awesome to me !
Hippies😂 love it!
Thanks
Matt, do you have any vents along the peak of the roof, that would help with keeping the temp down in the building.
That is one nice garage

If your gonna build a packaging room yuo could think of extending the second floor over it.
