  • *Pollution and its Enablers: An Urgent Call for Action*
*Ludhiana, [18 Aug 2024]* - Pollution and the agencies supposed to control it have become synonymous with environmental degradation and public health risks. This troubling reality is evident across various sectors including industrial units, dairies, hospitals, laboratories, and agriculture, as well as the regulatory agencies meant to oversee and mitigate their impacts.
*1. An Unacceptable State of Affairs:*
Today, industrial units, dairies, hospitals, and other polluting entities, alongside the agencies meant to regulate them, represent a growing menace to our environment. These entities are primarily responsible for the pollution of water, air, and soil, leading to severe environmental degradation and detrimental health impacts on the public.
    *2. Continuous Advocacy Against Pollution:*
The Public Action Committee (PAC) for Mattewara, Satluj, and Buddha Darya remains steadfast in its efforts to combat this environmental crisis. The committee has consistently raised concerns about the relentless pollution affecting these regions. The persistent contamination of natural resources is not only disrupting ecological balance but also posing grave threats to human health.
    *3. Demand for Immediate Action:*
PAC urgently calls for an end to the discharge of untreated waste into the Buddha Darya, Satluj, and other water bodies. The current situation is intolerable, with pollution affecting air quality, water bodies, and soil. The government must enforce stricter laws and take decisive action against those responsible for these criminal acts of pollution. Additionally, strict measures should be taken against regulatory bodies that have failed to act effectively against polluters.
*4. Recent Developments and Ongoing Issues:*
Today, PAC Green Activists, led by Advocate Yogesh Khanna, an esteemed social activist, environmentalist, and broadcaster, highlighted the ongoing pollution issues associated with the Tajpur Dairies Complex. Despite the establishment of an Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) funded by public money, issues such as the improper disposal of cow dung and other waste persist. The UASB (Enrobic) part is still non functional. The planned Gobar Gas Plant remains incomplete, exacerbating the problem. Furthermore, the drains continue to discharge untreated industrial and dairy waste into the Buddha Darya, undermining efforts to rejuvenate the water body.
    *5. Call for Community Action:*
Advocate Yogesh Khanna emphasized the need for a cooperative community approach to address the worsening pollution crisis. He urged all segments of society to unite in the fight against pollution and contribute to restoring environmental health. Immediate action is critical to prevent further damage and protect public health. The team was formed by Advocate Yogesh Khanna, Advocate RS Arora, Gurbachan Singh Batra, Dan Singh Osahan, Dr. VP Mishra, Mahinder Singh Sekhon, Manjinder Singh Grewal, and Col CM Lakhanpal.
    *6. Upcoming Events:*
Details regarding Phase-5 of the BDP-6 initiative will be announced shortly. We encourage everyone to participate in the forthcoming drive aimed at combating pollution and fostering a cleaner, healthier environment.
Member, PAC Mattewara, Satluj, and Buddha Darya
