I would like to speak a little more (probably a lot) on the question of, "Why aren't men joining." I have been asked this question, and I have spoken on it many times. RELEVANCY! We oftentimes think that tradition means "No Change" and this is a mistake and it is killing us. We can not get different results by doing the same things. This generation is different than times past, and different things appeal to them. If we don't figure out what appeals to them and adapt, why would they even want to ask, seek, or even knock at the door. The lessons and teachings of Masonry are not generational. However, the way we present them are. We can and must continue to instill all of the traditions and the Landmarks of Masonry, but we need to do it in a manner that is both relevant and relatable to the newer generation. We must ensure that we give this new generation a reason to want to get involved in Freemasonry. As much as they need to learn from us, we need to learn from them. Learn how to effectively communicate and connect with them. If we can't give them a reason to listen to us talk about this Beautiful System of Morality that we call Freemasonry and how good it is for them, we have lost them due to the inability to communicate effectively. Unfortunately, there are many of us who do not see it this way and are so stuck in our ways, we are losing numbers because of the lack of appeal. I can go on for hours on this topic as I am VERY passionate about it. We all have to work to ensure the longevity, livelihood, and survival of our fraternity. C. Michael DuBose Jr. MWPHGLOTX
