What works very well is get a USB charging port for your accessory port slots . When wiring it up. The positive wire to the direct positive post not the accessory post. Ground to ground post of course. A jump wire ( from a prong on back of the usb- it will be in the instructions with the usb) directly to the accessory post. When you turn on your key it will light up is what that jump wire does.
