Best way to level up quickly ist to go to Ledecko and do the quest from Vatzek shooting the lodges in the river against 2 other archers. It´s a repeatable quest. Just make sure you have like 100-200 groschens with you. In the beginning just bet 10 groschens. If you win you get 30 groschens, if you get 2nd you get your money back etc. However by doing this quest over and over again, you can level up your bow skill very quick. Also no arrow loss, you get the arrows needed for free all the time. Best method imo. Makes you level from 1-10 in 2-3 hours. When you become very good with it and win all the time, you can get a lot of cash really quick, betting 50 groschens all the time and getting 150 back (for like 3-5 mins of shooting). If you reach a very high score, Vadzek teaches you a secret bow technique, which just leads to improve you bow level by 1 point, but non the less very helpful.
Best way is to use an agility based sword and go to Bernard (upper Rattay outside the castle) and do training for real with your agility sword equipped. When you´re nearly done and he beat the sh1t out of you, go to the nearby tavern have a rest, rinse and repeat. Or just go to him and choose the combo training and NOT doing the combo he teaches you but just hit him all the time. By this way you also level alot of other stats. Worked out for me very well. Bernard is the way to go to raise most of the combat relevant stats and base stats like strengh, vitality and agility.

Okay, so everything with the archery in this game just clicked for me perfectly for some reason. You don't shoot just after it's fully drawn, you wait a half second, when you see your character lower the bow slightly before you shoot, then your trajectory for the arrow won't be higher than you'd expect. Now that I realized this, I hardly ever miss anymore. I kept getting really mad because I'd think I'd have lined up the perfect shot, but it always shot slightly higher than I expected, but then I'd over compensate. Just wait until your character fully draws the bow, wait a tiny bit until you see him drop it slightly, then release. As for lining it up, I really don't know how to explain that. I practice archery in real life and this is about the same view you'd get, so I guess I'm kind of used to it. Hope this at least somewhat helps!
Dude I’m playing this in 2024 for the first time. Was having trouble with the archery tournament for the keg of wine bc I’m only lvl 1 atm. And this comment was %100 more helpful than the video (good vid but) you helped me so much and I won 32 to 31 on my first attempt after reading your advice. Thank you!
It’s just really badly designed simple as that you literally have a little yellow circle for the entire game, which is completely unnecessary and when you actually need it to aim it vanishes
Once you learn combos, the sword fighting becomes much easier. It's a shame reviews are hating on this game for "clunky" melee, when they haven't even played enough of it to learn some attacks. I love how you need to practice sword fighting and archery to get better with them.
Im getting pretty good at sword fighting now, i can take on 2 people no problem but if a third shows up i struggle. Bows on the other hand are a bit frustrating. The way i have been using them is basically to let go of the trigger as soon as i hit full draw. 7/10 i usually hit my target.
And as take the arrow out and skin it by going into an inventory then after taking all the hare still has an arrow in it and its completely in tact. This is like a ps2 game

Really you can just go into the fight using heavy armor and a bow, most enemies do not have face protection, legolasing them feels like cheating but so pleasurable
6 years late but a very good tip is to equip the Cuman Vambraces, the tip of the Vambrace on your left hand is 1cm directly below the reticle so you can easily use it as reference.
As someone who wants to play a stealthy character (assassination, sneaking around bandit camps, picking them off one at a time with a bow etc) this was pretty useful! I had just been focusing my vision at the center of the screen to hit targets, but was having mixed results, and now I understand why. Pretty useful stuff!
When you pull back, it does 3 things it will go on ether side once then on opposite side once as soon as it stops, you have drawn your bow at its maximum capacity, so that is when you get the most range and accuracy
I do instinctual shooting irl, and find I get better results applying that process when shooting bows in game. The game developers really made it feel real.
I haven't tried it yet, but the description on the Cuman bows clearly says they are made for horseback shooting so... It seems some bows work on horseback.
If you ride past an enemy and perfectly time the swing of your sword you can effectively one shot them, but it's very difficult. If you slow down they will just unhorse you.
Bow from horseback was the only way I killed all the Cumans during the quest Run!. Went in with 50 Better Long Distance and 50 Better Hunting Arrows (gained illicitly from the Skalitz guardsmen). Jumped on a horse and ran up and down the hill there popping Cumans on the charge. I suck at melee so it worked for me.
Here's a tip! Dip your arrows poison! Make some poison and then apply it to a piercing arrow and it will inflict poison and that poison status effect won't ever wear off the arrow even when you decide to retrieve the arrow from a freshly poisoned corpse. Also there's SO many fun things to put on your arrows so that slightly makes up for the fact that there's no skills in the bow tree. I suggest getting the doll maker potion and dipping some arrows in that so you can pretty much paralyze people.
I finally got the game with all DLC on Amazon for 20 bucks and I'm loving it. I know the bows are cool and all but when you have a sword that does 70+ stab damage and you just head stab and perfect block/parry or clench enemies, it's not hard to take out a whole group of enemies. Hell, I killed all the bandits in Pribislavitz because I was getting frustrated they kept catching me posioning their food.
Go practice on the flock of sheep near the fighting arena where you train with captain Bernard. Its a really good way to level up your archery, stats (except speech), and hunting. They also respawn instanly if you go far enough and then come back. If you do it during work hours no one will see you. And if you're caught you can just pay off the fine using the money you get from the mutton and sheep skin.
"Chumps" is an archery contest that actually gives a decent amount of XP. Definitely a viable way to level up your archery that doesn't require you to travel the countryside and turning it into a wasteland by shooting every living thing you come across just in order to raise that bow skill.
Sorry to answer on such an old comment but there is one downside to this: you don't level strength/agility because you don't get regular archery XP with all combined skills, but rather have archery XP granted when you turn in the quest. I was too lazy to check, if you get actually the same XP or per hit but it's ~50 archery XP each time.
I found sword fighting too hard, especially against multiple opponents, so I went with the bow, either picking them off at range silently, or running backwards while they're swinging their weapons at me. The fight with Runt was extremely easy when you have a bow, a single arrow to the face kills him instantly.

@@greatarabia8091 I also shoot, the bows used in the game, historically, would have had to have been very high poundage, probably around 70-90#. Try accurately shooting an 80 lb bow as a beginner and then say this game isn't accurate lol

I spent 2 hours grinding out my Str and Agi with Cap Bernard for the longbow. Str 15 agi 10 I believe 1 up from this vid. So Ye 2 hours grinding. Finally got it thought ye going to go hunting. Got on my horse and started riding to the woods. 2 or 300 yards later tripped on a rock by the river and died. My 1st death after fighting loads of bandits etc from a rock or something after grinding 2 hours lol. Had to do it all again. Remember guys going to do something like that sleep or save 👍
Forkinator pretty much. It was either I fell off the horse fell down a small river bank or a bug but end result is I died. I’ve fell off 1 time after this but took only 10%hp damage.
That is why you should ride safely and responsibly. :D No really, fast horse riding on a very uneven terrain can sometimes damage you. My horse jumped a steep hill and it hurt me. Had I went slow it would just ride down the slope. Of course it was hard to see it in the tall grass. But it all seems pretty much natural. Even better it would be if instead of damaging me the horse would indeed fall frontally and threw me off.
You’d think that logically, strength would be have a major effect on archery in terms of how steady you can be and on the stamina consumption on extended bow draws, with agility affecting the speed of the draw and reload of the arrow while the actual archery skill affects all parts minimally although but has perks to choose such as a park to have a speed draw at high levels, where Henry puts the arrow on the right hand side of the bow to shoot faster and a crosshair perk (also at high levels) which shows the area where the arrow may land within the stopping range of the arrow.
Knock out a guard in Skalitz from behind (don't get caught!) and take his sword and bow/arrows. Now go knock out Kunesh (also from behind) and drag him into his house. Close the door and start shooting him full of arrows. He's marked as essential so he can't die. You can shoot him forever and raise your bow skill all the way to 20. You can also shank him up real good to raise your sword skill. Then beat him with the bludgeon you find in the chest in his house to raise your mace skill. By whupping Kunesh like a rented mule you can achieve max level in bow, sword, and mace (not to mention Strength, Warfare and Vitality) before ever leaving Skalitz. You're welcome.
@@bradmyers5354 What I do is kill the flock of sheep near the training arena over and over with my weapons (since they endlessly respawn), then punch the cows in the back until I'm level 20 in all the combat stats. Just have to make sure not to get caught by the villagers while doing it.
Screw the crosshair, just like swords you need to practice and shoot instinctively just like real life. This is probably the most accurate to real archery. As someone who has shot a longbow for 8 years it is pretty close to the mark to realistic. I never had a problem with archery in this game besides the random inaccuracy not user inaccuracy.
I had problem in IRL archery to always shoot arrows in the same place. It was because I haven't practiced enough to always draw it correctly in the same way. But I do not like how the bow wobbles in the game. That just does not happen. Once you draw it it stays in place. Inaccuracy comes from improper handling, release, bad distance judgment etc...
I have done a lot of archery IRL as well. I have never stood square shouldered with arms straight out and shot from the chest. Animation limitations are the reason for the crosshair.
You do not need crosshairs. Before a full draw you can foresee the flight path just by looking at where the arrow is pointed (depending at what point of the draw it can be angled to point further left or right), and at a full draw you can basically line up the shot with the tip of the arrow or your left knuckle. After leveling up the archery skill, getting higher quality arrows and bows which compensate a bit for your str and agi in holding and shaking the bow, and just by shooting more often; you will find it to be quite easy and almost intuitive. Also, I am not entirely sure headshots do extra dmg, and if they do it isn't by much, if you're already in combat, I reccomend shooting at the legs of each of the people chasing you to hobble them and make them easier hit and allowing for easier kiting.
chainer8686 headshots do extra damage started bandit camps by getting headshots before they can full register I'm there because of the distance, and I'm quite sure it also gives a high bleed % with headshots
They do more damage, and if they're wearing an open bascinet or a kettle helmet if you shoot the helmet you do pretty much no damage, but if you shoot the face you pretty much always insta kill
Before I watched this video and other archery rip videos, my method of aiming was a bit above the knuckle, and a tiny bit to the left. It worked well for me, for the most part. I still never really got the hang of longer range archery on moving targets, but I’m slowing getting better
Im pretty early on in the game and using the capon bow. From the horseback ive taken down ambushing bandits or ruffians with a single shot. So yeah the bow does pay off if you put some effort into it. And yeah kingdom come does not spoil the player without effort put into it...
An actual tip that properly does what the title of this video implies: go to Ledetchko and find Vatzek; you can play this game called "Chumps" with him, shooting logs that float on the river - and if you win, you can make quite a bit of coin but more importantly, it levels your bow skill by quite a bit and it's much more reliable than searching for game in the woods. Also if you score 17+ (out of 20) in the game, you'll get an extra bit of training from Vatzek - this is very useful when you've leveled up quite a bit because it doesn't matter what skill level you are and you'll get an extra bit of training for free (probably worth a whole level up in bow).
You didn't mention playing Chumps in Ledcheko. After getting the basic requirement to be able to draw the bow, I was able to level up all the way to 13 just by playing Chumps. Plus, it's also lucrative since you can get bet and win upto 3 times the bet. Also, every game of Chumps is exactly the same so repetition will come in your favor.
As someone who practices archery I will say that what the game offers is a close to instinctive shooting as you will get in a game the only issue I have is that the anchor point is way too low (somewhere around the collarbone I think) which btw would be difficult and somewhat impractical (regardless Im relatively certain that motion capture was definitely used for this part of the game but this guy had to have been all over the place (also archery is supposed to be draw aim and shoot in one motion if the process takes more than 2 seconds in total you have done something wrong)
Yeah man i was just saying that in another comment, I feel like the draw time is so slow in this game. I understand henry is shooting some very strong bows, but even getting more lvls doesnt seem to help. In the videos I saw of archery, they didnt seem to take that long to draw, i think the worst part is holding or shooting a lot.
3-4 years late here.. but I would suggest the reason for the slightly unrealistic draw back time would be something to do with combat difficulty balance. Bows would be extremely overpowered considering the damage they do if they were quick fire. Just look at something like Skyrim, bow (+stealth) builds are God tier.
Like they say in game. Hit the first one between the eyes with the bow then go to your sword. Archery in this game is super useful when fighting groups. Get two or three lucky shots.
1 way to help your bow skill, When you critically injure a foe and you have the "mercy kill" option, instead of doing that, quickly take out your bow and you can get a free shot in on a still target.(gotta act quick though as they die in a few seconds anyways)
My Henry had an energy level of 24 when I did the bow challenge against Capone. I got 2 bullseyes with Henry shutting his eyes. Ended up with a 14 over his 11 and then had a crazy long duel with swords that I won from pure luck alone.
The crosshair is kinda cheating and ruins archery. The problem in a lot of games, that archery is too easy, and archers become the most casual unskilled players in the game. However archery is difficult here. Ranged combat is rewarding, but risky and requires skills to work.
not that much when you reach lvl 5 and your arms stop moving randomly (so you can hit everything all the time) IMO they should divide that reduction on all levels (up to the max lvl) so you get a progressive reduction in movement, right now its hard before lvl 5 but when you reach it, it becomes really easy.
You don't even have to install a mod. All the mod does is change the 0 to 1. Just enter wh_pl_showfirecursor = 1 and use it to get used to here the arrow flies and then turn it off when you don't need it. There's a difference between relying on the reticle and using it to help you get better
You don't need a mod for keeping the dot while using the bow on PC. You can simply type in the console command "wh_pl_showfirecursor 1" and it will turn on. To turn it off, switch the 1 to a 0.

Console players! Use a little blob of blue tack! Works wonders for a crosshair, when you have the regular “crosshair” (bow not equipped) put the tack either on it or slightly above it, deffo improved accuracy when hitting people center mass.. then better from there.
The bow mechanics/gameplay in KCD is the most satisfying I’ve ever experienced. Also it allows me to win fights I would never stand a chance with against enemies armor with a single headshot
Oh dear god thank you so much for this video, I've been struggling with the bow aiming since the beginning as my fav fighting style implies stealth and ranged weapons. I didn't manage to get the bow from Sir. Capon but I got another one which is suitable for my stats. I'm playing on Ps4 so I hope it will help me with the hunting quests and archery!

It’s so incredibly frustrating to line up a shot as best you can, only to shoot it and miss... then get clobbered by the enemy.. bows used to be some of my favorite weapons in a rpg but here.. it truly takes skill to be useful.
Open the console on PC. Type; wh_pl_showfirecursor 1 That'll make you keep the dot on the screen. Practice with it. Go hunting. Then turn it off again (same but with 0 instead of 1). Get a feel for where the dot is supposed to be. Headshotting two bandits that's running towards you is such a thrill, especially when you're shit at swordfighting like me. Or just hitting that huge buck from a long distance. For console, just do what he said. Get some clear tape, draw a dot on it and but it on your TV when you're unarmed, at the same dot. Make sure you don't use some sort of hitler-tape that will ruin your TV.
Corrado Soprano, I'm with you on that. I was atrocious early game, spent some time in target practice and out in the open world. Now I can take out a bandit camp with my bow, no stealth, just good accuracy.
If you can consciously use your peripheral vision to notice where the center of the compass and health bar are you can get used to centering the bow pretty quickly and then adjust your elevation from there.
i’m glad I stuck to using the bow and arrow since I won the capon bow. It’s difficult to use but it’s so satisfying when you get the one shot one kill.
If you look at the hands when shooting arrows you will notice that most gloves have a corner in the 3d models that you can use as a guide for the horizontal center. look at the middle of the video in the archery range when he puts on the dot
Aim the bow with Henry's hand. Focus on his pointer finger knuckle. Line up the target and put the knuckle just below the targets knee. The bow shoots a little high , so arrows will hit the thighs or waist. Either way you'll do good damage and the enemies will break and run or surrender a lot sooner than usual. As you progress Henry will line up the targets faster and he will reload faster and use less stamina. Also ride your horse everywhere you go to build up the horsemanship skill. Unlock the knight perk the first chance you get. The knight perk means ALL attacks from horseback do more damage.
Instead of the different ways of getting the “crosshair” that the developers left out for a reason, you could simply not buy the game and claim everywhere that you finished it in a speedrun of 6 hours.
its a realistic bow, as soon as that bow is pulled all the way back you let go. most longbow men only aim for like .5 of a second. i was getting bullseyes the first time i wielded it. just try to be quick

Maybe the one thing I find odd is that henry, living in medieval times, would have known how to use a bow somewhat. He talks of hunting, and knows that boars need spears to take them down, arrows wont work. Still, great game. On my second playthrough now :)
I leveled up most of my stats by killing the sheep and cows in skalitz while waiting for the rest of the game to download. I have really slow internet so I did that all day for almost a week. Henry was basically a beast when he woke up in rattay 😂
They need a patch lockpicking. Its so bad with a control. I say instead of the little ball going back to the middle just have it stay where you move it they way it moves more like a mouse on a computer does. Its not so bad on the computer.
I'm sitting here listening to this tip about putting tape on your screen on PS4 while my monitor already has the tape and dot still on it lol the tape idea is insanely easy and can be taken off later. I went from not being able to hit a hare 5 feet away to dropping bandits on horseback from 200-300 feet away like it was nothing lol it's crazy how useful this trick is
When i put an arrow in the head of a random villager for no reason, they didn't seem to really take much damage, even after i shot another for good measure. What kind of effect does arrow quality, stats and bow quality have, beyond the basic stuff like aiming?
arrow quality and bow damage are huge. I can one shot boars now with "better quality hunting arrows" and an ash bow whereas it used to take me 6 arrows with regular hunting ones and capons bow.
the dmg of the bow is important, but in the early game, the quality and type of arrow is more important. hunting arrows are better at taking down animals, wounding is great for light armored targets, and piercing for armored targets, for example. learning alchemy is also good, since you can poison the arrows. also your stats are important. not only having higher stats lets you use better bows, but different types of arrows have effect multipliers, that scale with your stats.
I know this is late but the best way to train Bow is the chumps mini game in Ledetchko. You get free arrows every round and if you manage to land all 20 arrows you get a free training for Bow. You get about 150 experience with 18-20 shots landed.
Well it’s not really realistic. In real archery you can hold the center of the bow up to eye level and aim down the shaft. In this game Henry doesn’t do that, everything is off center, which is annoying.
because its their game and they can do whatever the hell they please, its like the save thing, im actually okay with the save system but if someone wants to save spam with mods then all power to them, its not my game, why should i care?
Ah, so static targets get no experience increase? I had a feeling that might have been the case as I spent some time over the last few days visiting the archery range just on my own, in what seems to me a reasonable expectation that “using” the bow would gain experience regardless of your target, but AI was getting the feeling I wasn’t getting anywhere so thanks for that heads up. :) What about the archery competitions using those same targets? I seem to remember seeing a stat rise message... but now I’m not sure I did.
There is No Realism with Archery in this game. At No point Ever does anyone swing the bow side to side like they show in this game.. that Never happens.
Not sure if you're being sarcastic but I practice archery with a longbow shooting off the knuckle. You don't aim down the shaft. You aim at the center of your target with your eye and let the rest of your body put the arrow there without ever actually looking at the bow or arrow. It's all about muscle memory of your entire body.
Three fingers under the arrow, and you "aim" with the shaft. Don't think anyone used that technique back in the day though. (And it's kinda cheating imo) People who don't do trad archery don't seem to really understand how we aim. It's like throwing a rock, you just throw and your body does the rest.
They aren't longbows, they're hunting bows. Or "combat" bows as he liked to call them. You do sight down the shaft with these. Even in "traditional" archery. I own several period appropriate bows and dabble in fletching. Clorox, he's saying that there are sense an archer can use that we don't have access to. It has nothing to do with muscle memory using a controller.
The archery constestt in Ledetchko is an easy way to level up your skill. You get a chunk of bow XP when you win and only cost you 10g. If you are decent, betting the max 50g will give you a return of 150g. It also doesnt glitch out as often as the other archery contest.
I'm now a guard in Rattay. After my basic training with Bernard and competition with Hans Capon, I went back to the range for some practice. I learned: let stamina recover fully after every shot. Release at high point of first wobble, at this range aiming at "V" of target stands. I was getting groups on the target instead of one hit in 5. Large groups, yes, but building consistency, when I couldn't hit a rabbit at 2 yards on first playing. Good luck, and have fun!
Plate armor and maces are over-rated. My Henry rocks a long bow, green hose, and a green feathered cap. Then I go rob the rich and also rob the poor.
I favor archer/rogue type chars in RPGs over heavy armor and fighters. Stealth is more fun.

High end Piercing arrow nullifies All that Plate armour too. I mastered the get close draw arrow run up and head shot method.

When you´re nearly done and he beat the sh1t out of you, go to the nearby tavern have a rest, rinse and repeat. Or just go to him and choose the combo training and NOT doing the combo he teaches you but just hit him all the time. By this way you also level alot of other stats. Worked out for me very well. Bernard is the way to go to raise most of the combat relevant stats and base stats like strengh, vitality and agility.

Okay, so everything with the archery in this game just clicked for me perfectly for some reason. You don't shoot just after it's fully drawn, you wait a half second, when you see your character lower the bow slightly before you shoot, then your trajectory for the arrow won't be higher than you'd expect. Now that I realized this, I hardly ever miss anymore. I kept getting really mad because I'd think I'd have lined up the perfect shot, but it always shot slightly higher than I expected, but then I'd over compensate. Just wait until your character fully draws the bow, wait a tiny bit until you see him drop it slightly, then release. As for lining it up, I really don't know how to explain that. I practice archery in real life and this is about the same view you'd get, so I guess I'm kind of used to it.

Once you learn combos, the sword fighting becomes much easier. It's a shame reviews are hating on this game for "clunky" melee, when they haven't even played enough of it to learn some attacks. I love how you need to practice sword fighting and archery to get better with them.

Im getting pretty good at sword fighting now, i can take on 2 people no problem but if a third shows up i struggle. Bows on the other hand are a bit frustrating. The way i have been using them is basically to let go of the trigger as soon as i hit full draw. 7/10 i usually hit my target.

Once you get good with a bow, a face shot to anyone usually drops them as long as their face is exposed. I love it.

Really you can just go into the fight using heavy armor and a bow, most enemies do not have face protection, legolasing them feels like cheating but so pleasurable
6 years late but a very good tip is to equip the Cuman Vambraces, the tip of the Vambrace on your left hand is 1cm directly below the reticle so you can easily use it as reference.
As someone who wants to play a stealthy character (assassination, sneaking around bandit camps, picking them off one at a time with a bow etc) this was pretty useful! I had just been focusing my vision at the center of the screen to hit targets, but was having mixed results, and now I understand why. Pretty useful stuff!
When you pull back, it does 3 things it will go on ether side once then on opposite side once as soon as it stops, you have drawn your bow at its maximum capacity, so that is when you get the most range and accuracy
For accuracy, it helps if you have real archery experience. Imagine the arrow is a laser pointer. Find the dot
I do instinctual shooting irl, and find I get better results applying that process when shooting bows in game. The game developers really made it feel real.
Another tip for a archer crosshair: Alot of modern gaming monitors have an option to display a crosshair in their options menu.
And I still miss hares 1m away!

I haven't tried it yet, but the description on the Cuman bows clearly says they are made for horseback shooting so... It seems some bows work on horseback.

If you ride past an enemy and perfectly time the swing of your sword you can effectively one shot them, but it's very difficult. If you slow down they will just unhorse you.
Bow from horseback was the only way I killed all the Cumans during the quest Run!. Went in with 50 Better Long Distance and 50 Better Hunting Arrows (gained illicitly from the Skalitz guardsmen). Jumped on a horse and ran up and down the hill there popping Cumans on the charge. I suck at melee so it worked for me.
Here's a tip!
Dip your arrows poison!
Make some poison and then apply it to a piercing arrow and it will inflict poison and that poison status effect won't ever wear off the arrow even when you decide to retrieve the arrow from a freshly poisoned corpse.
Also there's SO many fun things to put on your arrows so that slightly makes up for the fact that there's no skills in the bow tree.
I suggest getting the doll maker potion and dipping some arrows in that so you can pretty much paralyze people.
I finally got the game with all DLC on Amazon for 20 bucks and I'm loving it. I know the bows are cool and all but when you have a sword that does 70+ stab damage and you just head stab and perfect block/parry or clench enemies, it's not hard to take out a whole group of enemies.
Hell, I killed all the bandits in Pribislavitz because I was getting frustrated they kept catching me posioning their food.
Same, I killed all bandits there but mostly with silent kills or with a piercing arrow in the back of the head.
Go practice on the flock of sheep near the fighting arena where you train with captain Bernard. Its a really good way to level up your archery, stats (except speech), and hunting. They also respawn instanly if you go far enough and then come back. If you do it during work hours no one will see you. And if you're caught you can just pay off the fine using the money you get from the mutton and sheep skin.
"Chumps" is an archery contest that actually gives a decent amount of XP.
Definitely a viable way to level up your archery that doesn't require you to travel the countryside and turning it into a wasteland by shooting every living thing you come across just in order to raise that bow skill.
Sorry to answer on such an old comment but there is one downside to this: you don't level strength/agility because you don't get regular archery XP with all combined skills, but rather have archery XP granted when you turn in the quest. I was too lazy to check, if you get actually the same XP or per hit but it's ~50 archery XP each time.
I found sword fighting too hard, especially against multiple opponents, so I went with the bow, either picking them off at range silently, or running backwards while they're swinging their weapons at me. The fight with Runt was extremely easy when you have a bow, a single arrow to the face kills him instantly.

I spent 2 hours grinding out my Str and Agi with Cap Bernard for the longbow. Str 15 agi 10 I believe 1 up from this vid. So Ye 2 hours grinding. Finally got it thought ye going to go hunting. Got on my horse and started riding to the woods. 2 or 300 yards later tripped on a rock by the river and died. My 1st death after fighting loads of bandits etc from a rock or something after grinding 2 hours lol. Had to do it all again. Remember guys going to do something like that sleep or save 👍

Forkinator pretty much. It was either I fell off the horse fell down a small river bank or a bug but end result is I died. I’ve fell off 1 time after this but took only 10%hp damage.

No really, fast horse riding on a very uneven terrain can sometimes damage you. My horse jumped a steep hill and it hurt me. Had I went slow it would just ride down the slope. Of course it was hard to see it in the tall grass.
But it all seems pretty much natural.
Even better it would be if instead of damaging me the horse would indeed fall frontally and threw me off.

You’d think that logically, strength would be have a major effect on archery in terms of how steady you can be and on the stamina consumption on extended bow draws, with agility affecting the speed of the draw and reload of the arrow while the actual archery skill affects all parts minimally although but has perks to choose such as a park to have a speed draw at high levels, where Henry puts the arrow on the right hand side of the bow to shoot faster and a crosshair perk (also at high levels) which shows the area where the arrow may land within the stopping range of the arrow.
Knock out a guard in Skalitz from behind (don't get caught!) and take his sword and bow/arrows. Now go knock out Kunesh (also from behind) and drag him into his house. Close the door and start shooting him full of arrows. He's marked as essential so he can't die. You can shoot him forever and raise your bow skill all the way to 20. You can also shank him up real good to raise your sword skill. Then beat him with the bludgeon you find in the chest in his house to raise your mace skill. By whupping Kunesh like a rented mule you can achieve max level in bow, sword, and mace (not to mention Strength, Warfare and Vitality) before ever leaving Skalitz. You're welcome.

@@bradmyers5354 What I do is kill the flock of sheep near the training arena over and over with my weapons (since they endlessly respawn), then punch the cows in the back until I'm level 20 in all the combat stats. Just have to make sure not to get caught by the villagers while doing it.
Screw the crosshair, just like swords you need to practice and shoot instinctively just like real life. This is probably the most accurate to real archery. As someone who has shot a longbow for 8 years it is pretty close to the mark to realistic. I never had a problem with archery in this game besides the random inaccuracy not user inaccuracy.
I had problem in IRL archery to always shoot arrows in the same place. It was because I haven't practiced enough to always draw it correctly in the same way.
But I do not like how the bow wobbles in the game. That just does not happen. Once you draw it it stays in place. Inaccuracy comes from improper handling, release, bad distance judgment etc...

I have done a lot of archery IRL as well. I have never stood square shouldered with arms straight out and shot from the chest. Animation limitations are the reason for the crosshair.

You do not need crosshairs. Before a full draw you can foresee the flight path just by looking at where the arrow is pointed (depending at what point of the draw it can be angled to point further left or right), and at a full draw you can basically line up the shot with the tip of the arrow or your left knuckle. After leveling up the archery skill, getting higher quality arrows and bows which compensate a bit for your str and agi in holding and shaking the bow, and just by shooting more often; you will find it to be quite easy and almost intuitive.
Also, I am not entirely sure headshots do extra dmg, and if they do it isn't by much, if you're already in combat, I reccomend shooting at the legs of each of the people chasing you to hobble them and make them easier hit and allowing for easier kiting.
chainer8686 headshots do extra damage started bandit camps by getting headshots before they can full register I'm there because of the distance, and I'm quite sure it also gives a high bleed % with headshots

They do more damage, and if they're wearing an open bascinet or a kettle helmet if you shoot the helmet you do pretty much no damage, but if you shoot the face you pretty much always insta kill

I never aimed with part of the bow or arow. I just trained a lot and fire intuitively all the time and then I was able to hitenemy in the eye.
I LOVE this game. Yhos second play through years later makes me love it even more.

Before I watched this video and other archery rip videos, my method of aiming was a bit above the knuckle, and a tiny bit to the left. It worked well for me, for the most part. I still never really got the hang of longer range archery on moving targets, but I’m slowing getting better
Im pretty early on in the game and using the capon bow. From the horseback ive taken down ambushing bandits or ruffians with a single shot. So yeah the bow does pay off if you put some effort into it. And yeah kingdom come does not spoil the player without effort put into it...

An actual tip that properly does what the title of this video implies: go to Ledetchko and find Vatzek; you can play this game called "Chumps" with him, shooting logs that float on the river - and if you win, you can make quite a bit of coin but more importantly, it levels your bow skill by quite a bit and it's much more reliable than searching for game in the woods.
Also if you score 17+ (out of 20) in the game, you'll get an extra bit of training from Vatzek - this is very useful when you've leveled up quite a bit because it doesn't matter what skill level you are and you'll get an extra bit of training for free (probably worth a whole level up in bow).
You didn't mention playing Chumps in Ledcheko. After getting the basic requirement to be able to draw the bow, I was able to level up all the way to 13 just by playing Chumps. Plus, it's also lucrative since you can get bet and win upto 3 times the bet. Also, every game of Chumps is exactly the same so repetition will come in your favor.
As someone who practices archery I will say that what the game offers is a close to instinctive shooting as you will get in a game the only issue I have is that the anchor point is way too low (somewhere around the collarbone I think) which btw would be difficult and somewhat impractical (regardless Im relatively certain that motion capture was definitely used for this part of the game but this guy had to have been all over the place (also archery is supposed to be draw aim and shoot in one motion if the process takes more than 2 seconds in total you have done something wrong)
Yeah man i was just saying that in another comment, I feel like the draw time is so slow in this game. I understand henry is shooting some very strong bows, but even getting more lvls doesnt seem to help. In the videos I saw of archery, they didnt seem to take that long to draw, i think the worst part is holding or shooting a lot.
3-4 years late here.. but I would suggest the reason for the slightly unrealistic draw back time would be something to do with combat difficulty balance.
Bows would be extremely overpowered considering the damage they do if they were quick fire. Just look at something like Skyrim, bow (+stealth) builds are God tier.
Like they say in game. Hit the first one between the eyes with the bow then go to your sword. Archery in this game is super useful when fighting groups. Get two or three lucky shots.
The best tip for archery is the tip at the end of the arrow shaft... you want the tip to hit what you aim at

1 way to help your bow skill, When you critically injure a foe and you have the "mercy kill" option, instead of doing that, quickly take out your bow and you can get a free shot in on a still target.(gotta act quick though as they die in a few seconds anyways)
One thing I noticed is you never seem other people riding horses , apart drommwhen your riding somewhere with people for missions.
Horses were a royal privilege. Henry was given a horse by a nobility.

My Henry had an energy level of 24 when I did the bow challenge against Capone. I got 2 bullseyes with Henry shutting his eyes. Ended up with a 14 over his 11 and then had a crazy long duel with swords that I won from pure luck alone.

The crosshair is kinda cheating and ruins archery. The problem in a lot of games, that archery is too easy, and archers become the most casual unskilled players in the game. However archery is difficult here. Ranged combat is rewarding, but risky and requires skills to work.
not that much when you reach lvl 5 and your arms stop moving randomly (so you can hit everything all the time) IMO they should divide that reduction on all levels (up to the max lvl) so you get a progressive reduction in movement, right now its hard before lvl 5 but when you reach it, it becomes really easy.
nah the cross hair would balance out the difficulty, I get the challenge but the mechanic should be playable to some degree in the early stages
You don't even have to install a mod. All the mod does is change the 0 to 1. Just enter wh_pl_showfirecursor = 1 and use it to get used to here the arrow flies and then turn it off when you don't need it.

You don't need a mod for keeping the dot while using the bow on PC. You can simply type in the console command "wh_pl_showfirecursor 1" and it will turn on. To turn it off, switch the 1 to a 0.

Console players! Use a little blob of blue tack! Works wonders for a crosshair, when you have the regular “crosshair” (bow not equipped) put the tack either on it or slightly above it, deffo improved accuracy when hitting people center mass.. then better from there.
The bow mechanics/gameplay in KCD is the most satisfying I’ve ever experienced.
Also it allows me to win fights I would never stand a chance with against enemies armor with a single headshot

It’s so incredibly frustrating to line up a shot as best you can, only to shoot it and miss... then get clobbered by the enemy.. bows used to be some of my favorite weapons in a rpg but here.. it truly takes skill to be useful.
Open the console on PC.

wh_pl_showfirecursor 1
That'll make you keep the dot on the screen. Practice with it. Go hunting.
Then turn it off again (same but with 0 instead of 1). Get a feel for where the dot is supposed to be.
Headshotting two bandits that's running towards you is such a thrill, especially when you're shit at swordfighting like me. Or just hitting that huge buck from a long distance.
For console, just do what he said. Get some clear tape, draw a dot on it and but it on your TV when you're unarmed, at the same dot. Make sure you don't use some sort of hitler-tape that will ruin your TV.

If you're on console, just draw a big "X" in the approx center if your TV with a permanent marker.

If you look at the hands when shooting arrows you will notice that most gloves have a corner in the 3d models that you can use as a guide for the horizontal center. look at the middle of the video in the archery range when he puts on the dot

Aim the bow with Henry's hand. Focus on his pointer finger knuckle. Line up the target and put the knuckle just below the targets knee. The bow shoots a little high , so arrows will hit the thighs or waist. Either way you'll do good damage and the enemies will break and run or surrender a lot sooner than usual. As you progress Henry will line up the targets faster and he will reload faster and use less stamina. Also ride your horse everywhere you go to build up the horsemanship skill. Unlock the knight perk the first chance you get. The knight perk means ALL attacks from horseback do more damage.
Instead of the different ways of getting the “crosshair” that the developers left out for a reason, you could simply not buy the game and claim everywhere that you finished it in a speedrun of 6 hours.

100 lb draw weight? 250 to 300 was common for war bows. Archers were buff as hell.

I leveled my strength up to the max by beating cows
I leveled up most of my stats by killing the sheep and cows in skalitz while waiting for the rest of the game to download. I have really slow internet so I did that all day for almost a week. Henry was basically a beast when he woke up in rattay 😂

They need a patch lockpicking. Its so bad with a control. I say instead of the little ball going back to the middle just have it stay where you move it they way it moves more like a mouse on a computer does. Its not so bad on the computer.

I'm sitting here listening to this tip about putting tape on your screen on PS4 while my monitor already has the tape and dot still on it lol
the tape idea is insanely easy and can be taken off later. I went from not being able to hit a hare 5 feet away to dropping bandits on horseback from 200-300 feet away like it was nothing lol it's crazy how useful this trick is
When i put an arrow in the head of a random villager for no reason, they didn't seem to really take much damage, even after i shot another for good measure. What kind of effect does arrow quality, stats and bow quality have, beyond the basic stuff like aiming?
arrow quality and bow damage are huge. I can one shot boars now with "better quality hunting arrows" and an ash bow whereas it used to take me 6 arrows with regular hunting ones and capons bow.
the dmg of the bow is important, but in the early game, the quality and type of arrow is more important. hunting arrows are better at taking down animals, wounding is great for light armored targets, and piercing for armored targets, for example. learning alchemy is also good, since you can poison the arrows.
also your stats are important. not only having higher stats lets you use better bows, but different types of arrows have effect multipliers, that scale with your stats.
crosshair is pussies! Just play the game without it and Get Good! Don't cheat. Man..
it's not like this game has multiplayer idk why it matters to you that some guy somewhere is "cheating"

I know this is late but the best way to train Bow is the chumps mini game in Ledetchko. You get free arrows every round and if you manage to land all 20 arrows you get a free training for Bow. You get about 150 experience with 18-20 shots landed.
Poeple who use a crosshair might aswell just play skyrim.
Why play a more realistic game if you cant handel these aspects.
Well it’s not really realistic. In real archery you can hold the center of the bow up to eye level and aim down the shaft. In this game Henry doesn’t do that, everything is off center, which is annoying.
If you want realism so much delete your character if you die
because its their game and they can do whatever the hell they please, its like the save thing, im actually okay with the save system but if someone wants to save spam with mods then all power to them, its not my game, why should i care?
My only question is why does henry have to move the bow frow side to side constantly? Is that realistic? I don't think I learned archery correctly

Ah, so static targets get no experience increase? I had a feeling that might have been the case as I spent some time over the last few days visiting the archery range just on my own, in what seems to me a reasonable expectation that “using” the bow would gain experience regardless of your target, but AI was getting the feeling I wasn’t getting anywhere so thanks for that heads up. :) What about the archery competitions using those same targets? I seem to remember seeing a stat rise message... but now I’m not sure I did.
There is No Realism with Archery in this game. At No point Ever does anyone swing the bow side to side like they show in this game.. that Never happens.
don't forget that henry is at first a clueless peasant and wouldn't know how to aim a bow properly much less aim it
A little tip, get a crosshair sticker and put it where the crosshair is usually. A lot easier to aim
or maybe learn to shoot XD just aim center to screen. its really easy tho...

Yep, the realistic bows that don't let you aim down the shaft.
Not sure if you're being sarcastic but I practice archery with a longbow shooting off the knuckle. You don't aim down the shaft. You aim at the center of your target with your eye and let the rest of your body put the arrow there without ever actually looking at the bow or arrow. It's all about muscle memory of your entire body.
you cant use your muscle memory in a game, so maybe dont pull stupid arguments out of your ass?
Three fingers under the arrow, and you "aim" with the shaft. Don't think anyone used that technique back in the day though. (And it's kinda cheating imo)
People who don't do trad archery don't seem to really understand how we aim. It's like throwing a rock, you just throw and your body does the rest.
They aren't longbows, they're hunting bows. Or "combat" bows as he liked to call them. You do sight down the shaft with these. Even in "traditional" archery. I own several period appropriate bows and dabble in fletching.
Clorox, he's saying that there are sense an archer can use that we don't have access to. It has nothing to do with muscle memory using a controller.

The archery constestt in Ledetchko is an easy way to level up your skill. You get a chunk of bow XP when you win and only cost you 10g. If you are decent, betting the max 50g will give you a return of 150g. It also doesnt glitch out as often as the other archery contest.
I'm now a guard in Rattay. After my basic training with Bernard and competition with Hans Capon, I went back to the range for some practice. I learned: let stamina recover fully after every shot. Release at high point of first wobble, at this range aiming at "V" of target stands. I was getting groups on the target instead of one hit in 5. Large groups, yes, but building consistency, when I couldn't hit a rabbit at 2 yards on first playing. Good luck, and have fun!
