I'd try to infuse the vanilla in the sugar and water during the boil, and split and scrape the vanilla bean instead of using the whole pod. Doing this instead of letting it soak for 30 days should reduce the plant matter and darkening in the finished product. You'll still have some pepper looking specks but it won't be so bad, like the flecks in vanilla bean ice cream.
Its the best because older people have great stories and knowledge and are able to really spread on what they know to people interested enough to look! The internet produces such good sometimes! 💜

IN Florida we Southerners make calamondin liquer almost the same way....but we put vodka, thetiny whole fruit washed cut in half and sugar...leave a month turn every few days , the sugar dissolves and you calamondin liquer...gorgeous flavor can be mixed with water, or clob soda or best in cold or,hot tea the hot tea makes a sore throat feel so much better you actually look forward to a sore throat..or if you are a regular hot tea drinker no excuse NEEDED! WE also make calamondin preserves...a complicated time consuming process so never commercially available way better than orange marmalade. WE have mandarins like tangerines but slightly thicker skins those make fabulous marmalade too cook down to caramelize and it's like candy on your toast. THe best marmalade in the world. HOme made also not commercially available.

He was one of my very favorite people in the world... there are only a handful of people I've ever loved as much. Pretty much just my parents and twin sister. Hi my asian American friend, my grandparents were all born in sicily , and they spoke with a very thick Italian accent. We lived in Deep south Louisiana with the cajuns. I could tell you some stories. I would love to adopt you in my family. You can have some Sicilian cousins in Louisiana. Ofcourse all of the old timers have passed on.

You are adorable. I love to make this drink. I use a rasp on 10 to 15 lemons. I also juice the lemons to mix in the sugar instead of water. Put it in the freezer overnight and YUM! Really intense lemon flavor. Another great idea, Limoncello makes great lemon jello shots. Delicious!

You cut the liquor with simple syrup once it’s infused with the lemon. It also mellows if you let it sit and age for a bit. If you start with something lower proof like vodka, when it ages it becomes too sweet and cloying.

I've made limoncello in the past for myself and for gifts I loved it but for those that never had it before said it was too strong what a bunch a sissies. I also made it with natural oranges and it tasted delicious if you add heavy cream it is awesome as long as you have it chilled because of the dairy in it.

Yea homemade distillates are always much sweeter than anything industrial, because the sucrose doesn't completely dissolve with the alcohol. The amount of sugar though it's the same in both.
I make this lemoncello recipe but with key limes but I use more sugar by a quarter cup because the limes are tart. I suppose you could do it with any citrus.
