As far as Marko's nasally twang... he probably is adding something to get that sound but I would note that his Finnish accent also colors his english vocals at times. He's a brilliant counterpart to Floor and is in many ways the heart of the band, so his departure is a heavy blow.
At the same time, though, it was all mutual. It's not like he left because of anything to do with the band itself, and I can't imagine that the other members don't all understand, accept and respect his reasons for stepping back. The mutual nature of his departure, along with the hopeful tone at the end of his open letter ("I hope to tell you all about it in 2022. No promises, though") makes me think that we haven't seen the last of him, and that I wouldn't be surprised if he even returned to Nightwish. I know he enjoyed singing with Floor (he once said that with Floor, he didn't have to worry about overpowering her vocals with his own, unlike with Annette, and even Tarja to a degree), and it's impossible to see the smile on his face when the rest of the band comes in during the Tampere performance of The Islander and not think that he loves not only the act of performing, of being onstage, but also performing with the other members of Nightwish.
Some of Marko's sound might also be the result of the botched throat surgery he had back in the '90s, to remove a polyp. He said in his book, it damaged his nerves and partially paralyzed the vocal cords on the left side.
There are quite a few reactions by vocal coaches to NW and Floor specifically, which is understandable given her talent, but your discussion is more interesting than most of them because of your metal background. I know loads about head voice vs chest voice, belting vs operatic, clean voice vs fry voice thanks to all of those reactions, but I'm glad to learn some new, metal specific stuff from you. Thanks!
@@KardavoxAcademy Dude, you didn't reply to my post below your previous Nightwish reaction 3 weeks ago. I gave you a link to Floor's performance where her growls are much better. I was always taught that if you're forcing a body position to make a note or sound, you're probably not ready to make it. Floor really exemplifies that by being so relaxed through her jaw and neck and drawing deep from her chest using all her breath. She's so smart with her mouth shapes and breath support, I love to see more classical opera training translating to metal vocalists for sound and overall vocal health
Tbh Nightwish was always popular alongside Epica and many others, but the attention is great now people seem to respect females more overall, so it seems. Shout out to the algorithm for blessing us
One thing I have noticed about a lot of people screaming/growling is that they often like hunch over, cupping the mic and stuff. But Floor has such perfect posture and look so relaxed
Some observations from your reaction (a first visit for me): 1 - you are darn well a Metal singer; I have seen numerous aces of other styles go skipping around the room once they figure who is doing the growl in this song. While you just went, OK that is well done. :)) 2 - this song was composed by Tuomas, the band leader, especially for Floor sice she joined permanently, to be presented on their first album together. So he probably was very conscious on how he set the vocal lines - like including the "misleading" rough bridge from Marco, who then switches to clean tenor for the chorus. Leaving the unsuspecting audience to figure out whence come the growls. To mind, never before Tuomas had a singer who could deliver these lines... he was patient; he got her; and he adjusted, as times before. 3 - like how you try to portray the vocal techniques used in the song; now I'm curious, did you also try to mimick the end part of "Ghost Love Score"?!? :))))

When I've tried to play with false chord growling, it actually feels a lot like falsetto, in that it takes a lot of air to make a moderate amount of sound. The result being that it dries your throat very quickly if you don't hydrate well.

Brilliant. TY. It explains why a drill instructor can cut through all background noise.
Do the nightwish cover of pink Floyd's high hopes for more Marco is my favorite performance of his
Keep it up man your very informative and its easy to see your passion for the musical craft
The crowd definitely needed as safe word on this one when Floor started the chorus...
I highly recommend Ghost River (Wacken 2013) Their voices are complementing one another perfectly in that one.
You remember when floor belted out the last note in ghost love score? Well if you want to hear Marco and Floor belt out! Listen to Romanticide.
She has a vocal master class on her personal TH-cam where she also shows how to growl effectively.
Hallo, great reaction..when you ,as a Voice Teacher Interessent, look to Floors MasterClass. 🤗(find it on her YT channel)..greetings from northern germany.
I think the warning at the start is required in all Nightwish live songs.
Great video, my favourite channel reacting to my favourite band!
Love your reactions my dude. if you are open to suggestions, I would recommend Disdain by ReVamp, Floor's prior band... that music is insane. Keep the awesome job dude!
I love Nightwish! Come to Brasil!
Man, I'd really like to see your analysis of some japanese bands, such as Deviloof or Dir en Grey! Their singers are sick
And Maximum The Hormone! That would be so cool
lol...love your reactions! Always very instructive , as well as fun to watch and listen to you. My eternal Godess FLOOR, is my inspiration to maybe....perhaps....learn to go from classical to contemporary singing. Very difficult though....teaching an old dog/biatch.....lol..., to sit. (speaking of myself.... )
Hi from the UK 🇬🇧 something you might like to check out the band is called Ayreon and I think you will enjoy analysing this
Ayreon the day that the world breaks down ( it features 11 different singer's it will make sense when you watch it
Also you might like Ayreon age of shadows ( floor and Marco from Nightwish, hanci from blind guardian) floors sister irean is in the backing singer's
Marko added that on purpose. He can sing beautiful, growl, and sing so many styles. Her growls are wahhhhhhh. For a classical AND rock metal trained singer she rocks.
Omg that 'happy birthday' reminded me of Marilyn Monroe singing to JFK lol. I really enjoy hearing you giving examples of using different techniques. It is so interesting. I wish I was in the US to get lessons. Love your reactions.
Thanks for the kind words, Suzanne! So, I actually give all of my lessons remotely, and I have students from all over the world, so if you are serious about wanting lessons drop me an email at kardavox1010@gmail.com and let's make it happen! :)
Thanks for the insights! 🙋🏼♀️
When I've tried to play with false chord growling, it actually feels a lot like falsetto, in that it takes a lot of air to make a moderate amount of sound. The result being that it dries your throat very quickly if you don't hydrate well.
Floor growling for the first time in her 2nd band ReVamp in 2010. She shows her crazy vocal range all in one song.
Graspop Festival 2010:

I'd like to hear how Hansi Kürsch can still sound great despite singing for 30 years for Blind Guardian.
I´m wondering why you use term "scream", because I heard other vocal coaches use "growl". Scream for me is high pitched sound. Thanks.
Thanks for the heads up on the epilepsy! ❤️
Always!
hmmm... Ghost River... Wacken 2013...
you will be pleasantly surprised :)
greetings
and thank you...
We missed Signs of the Swarms last song. How about today's!!! "The Collection" plus two guest vocalists Nick Arthur & Matt Honeycutt
I love the suspense in reaction videos to YIAEH. When will the reactionist realize it's Floor who is doing the growling
If you really want to see Floor growls, try ReVamp Disdain live 😉
Absolutely fantastic reaction absolutely loved it even subscribed. Floor is my favorite vocalist and Nightwish my favorite band.💜 If you want to see more Growling from Floor watch her previous band ReVamp's Distain and Wildcard Live those are two epic songs. Please also react to Nightwish Slaying The Dreamer and Devil And The Deep Dark Ocean. 🤘😁🤘🙏🙏
