WWII Bayonet Restoration | DIY |

- Bought this bayonet online, tought it could be a cool restoration video. I'm no expert, but I found some info, that this bayonet is for M1924 Mauser Short Rifle. Belgian and Yugoslavian army used it around WWII, or it has been produced then. If you know something about this particular bayonet, please share it with us in the comments below.

Only to cringe collectors who think rust = value. To the rest of us it looks great, besides these things are a dime a dozen not really valuable to start off with. So nah your wrong on this one chief.
@@Ruthless_Robbery Rust is not value. Patina is value. It is the black layer under the rust built up by dirt over the years that protects the item from further rust. Also this guy cuts it up with a grinder wich is ruining the purpose of the bayonet.
It was a perfect candidate for a preservation. Boil the knife and then card off with steel wool. It's very sad because these bayonets are getting hard to find.

You made a wonderful job, but for a collector it´s a "crime" doing such a "hardcore recovery". The same job but, not removing all the markings, recovering the mechanism and the original woods should be a "must do" in a real recovery. For me you just destroyed a piece of history... but besides that, you work really good.

Why did you seal the fixing mechanism? And not relocate the screws on the handle? This piece is unfortunately not restored, it’s modified.
yes, I agree. I wish you'd have kept it original instead of ruining the blade. Nice workmanship... just on the wrong piece.
That is a shame about the bayonet I don't think I can call it one now should of been kept original just cleaned up up dame shame

Из армейского штыка сделал кухонный нож... Нет слов !
просто красавчик. вы его уничтожили. мало того что сняли полностью исторический слой, так ещё и срезали крестовину... и залили эпоксидной смолой пазы для крепления штыка к винтовке. и очень много раз его полировали... и где вы его будете использовать? такой длинный штык? в домашнем хозяйстве он не применим, за счет своей длины, а как колоекционная вещь, полностью утратила свою стоимость.
При таком сохране сделать то, что сделано... Эх-х-х... жаль штык.

Жаль, что не было даже предпринята попытка привести в рабочее состояние кнопку и в итоге она была банально сточена... Хотя никаких проблем отмочить её той же WD-40 не составило бы. Родные деревянные накладки так же находились в довольно бодром состоянии и точно не нуждались в замене.
Your workmanship skills are great and you did do a good job, but yes as others have already said you have removed all the military markings as well as not using the original Screws and also filled the mechanism, but each to their own - it’s your bayonet so you can do what you want

это не реставрация, а скорее переделка предмета в нечто иное - скажем окопный нож . нечто подобное я проделал со штыком от Манлихера, но там металл был настолько повреждён ржавчиной, что восстанавливать уже нечего было. пришлось и клинок укоротить и гарду новую делать.

Always do research before you “restore” something or you might end up destroying a piece of history. While it looks nice it hurts my very being to see the serial numbers and muzzle ring destroyed.

I hate seeing epoxy on a handle where the original blade used pins.

Шикарнейший штыкнож, но меня пугало как автор так ,резко, пользовался тяжолой техникой. Болгарки и гриндеры это больше для самоделок чем для реставрации, ну минус что непоставил наместо спины и залил крепеж эбокситкой. Вышло вроде ничего, но можно было и ответственней подойти к этому делу.

thisis a referbishment u left no orginal grips fucked up the locking botton took off any marking off and took a ton of metal out of it.

Restoration is when you take a damaged historical exhibit and try to restore it to its original state using the maximum number of original parts. You will replace the parts of the exhibit that have not survived with a replica. That bayonet was really nice and I would like it in my collection as it was without repairs, in its original condition, it's a shame you destroyed it, I hope you learned your lesson and will be wise next time.Otherwise, you are very clever and creative.
Sorry man you definitely did not do that bayonet any favors. you destroyed it looks like a carcano bayonet which are hard to find by themselves but no one will be able to use it for there rifle now that you cut off the Barrel Loop plus you erased all the serial numbers shame
This is how bayonet prices are getting higher, cuz less pieces remain. This is an example of erasing historic value. Anyway, enjoy ur new knife cuz its a quality steel which u cant find anywhere today.

Would you consider doing another one? For sale? Possibly a K98. All the same modifications but using ram, or deer or something for scales other than wood? Maybe G10 even.

Craftsmanship is spot on. Cannot deny good work when you see it. But chopping the barrel sleeve, grinding numbers, epoxy for the grips, and filling the locking mechanism with epoxy? Bad taste for a “restoration” but. If it looks good to you, it looks good to you. Frankly it’s tacky.

Im not sure that grinding and filing is the best way to go with an antique. I think electroalsis, soaking in some rust removing chemical, and maybe light sand blasting would be better. The wood scales should be treated or coated before installation. I think rebluing that bayonet would preserve it better.
le résultat n'est pas vilain mais il ne faut pas appeler ça une restoration mais plutôt une transformation car du point de vue historique il a complètement détruit la baïonnette

Просто уничтожил штык к винтовке vz 23. Их и так мало так как они шли в персидскую армию. Так ты уничтожил серийный номер, код производителя, знак военной приёмки Чешской или Персидской армии. Не говоря о спиливания кольца крепления, которое никак не могло быть на штыке vz 23.

Испортил такой штык!!! Зачем так грубо чистить? Срезал надульник зачем то. Пины на место не поставил, бокситкой залил? Зачем???? Всё клейма заводские сточил теперь этот """штык""" ничего не стоит и как экспонат и как новодел.
