I have seen people with English degrees doing:
    -teach abroad in Japan/Korea/China
    -copywriter/technical writer for tech companies
-work for online editions of magazines, such as National Geographic for Kids, etc.
-manage retail establishments like Dicks Sporting Goods, Target, and Enterprise Rental Car.
    - Lawyers (After doing law school as well)
-work for a nonprofit to campaign and advance their causes -customer service agent to customer service manager
    - I've seen a few works in call centers. One worked up to managing a call center department.
-paralegal- this was after working in a call center that involved landlord-tenant issues.
-social media director for the magazine -warehouse logistics
I think in any degree field, you need to be willing to start at the bottom and work your way up and realize where you begin is not necessarily where you will end.
    Edit: format fix

I want it so bad it hurts. I’m not finished with school yet, I don’t have the patience for another 3 years. Until then I guess I keep on writing poems, songs, stories, working on a novel, reading classical literature and keep on watching how me writing more improves on my acting skills because I get a deeper understanding for individuals and their feelings, which is magical because I love acting so much. It’s also just mind blowing how reading some poems made me braver and more confident. I’m mentally in a really bad state right now and all of that helps me so much. I’m not a native English speaker but I really want to write in English, I just love that language, I’m confident that I will learn to speak it fluently one day.

When you have skills, it helps in a career, not everyone are math wizards or language savvy, even with practice, there are some skills that takes more than 10 years to develop compared to those who have a natural gift which take less than a few weeks. Engineering is where the jobs are at, and a small percentage are lucky to have a job because of it, not everyone will have a job that gives a good income, but society and the educational system has changed the true meaning of what is important when it comes to studying for a career pathway.

I still have it on my top list but I am utterly helpless due to how uncommon it is for people around me to choose English.
Resulting in hearing only negative talks about the subject. I have tutored a few and I didn’t enjoy the experience either. So far people keep on saying teaching is the only profession best known and available in this field so that’s also kinda discouraging. But I do absolutely love and adore the subject as a whole. Would love some input :”) Thank you.

    2. Any tips about what to do to boost your career while you are in uni?
    3. What should my steps be after graduation?

English majors are labeled as useless simply because it's a liberal arts degree and because of this, people don't end up knowing what the degree actually does. Before answering your questions it's important to know that English majors specialize in writing and communicating. Every business needs someone who can write and communicate well, it's just a fact. So it's important to know your entire major will consist of those 2 things. If you don't like writing 5 pages frequently on a couple passages of a poem or talking a lot then this isn't the major for you. Do you enjoy writing, talking about stories/books, and reading a lot? An English degree can be very applicable to the real world if you know how to market yourself.

Maybe ... just maybe you might communicate better with your Grandfather and bridge the generation gap. I still remember the day I thought I'd come up with a huge new theoretical discovery and I was anxious to start my article for SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN! Fortunately I reviewed my equations and with the new events happening in the world and new innovations I realized my discovery was bunk. Now, I'm not sure if I'm proud of this or not but I think probably I am proud that I have known Politicians. By this I mean men who hold elected office and make decisions that influence millions of people all over the world. One of these men encouraged me to write... not something I wanted to do at the time but the idea grew on me along with other ideas you pick up from living your life. And even mom encouraged writing by her example. But as to actually doing something with the English Degree. I was approached as an Undergraduate to change my Major to "General Studies" where I would not have any requirements and could take all of the English and Writing Classes I wanted and "have fun". Basically the selling point for General Studies was
spending my time partying and doing whatever it is that people who party actually do. But I still think if I had worked on this skill a bit more then maybe we might have communicated better. But to be honest, I wanted to be around the man as I got older and I took the initiative to get to know him better. He didn't have the opportunity to attend College ... but he was proud that I took University seriously and I know he hoped that one day I'd be wealthy.

Anywhere and everywhere? As and English Major, you should know that those type of broad statements are hard to defend. You know and I know that your opinion is very biased. You know what's everywhere? Accountants and technology. This guy sounds like a professor who wants to defend his department because he is losing students to Computer Science or Nursing or degrees that actually do something. Or a guy who things he can changed the value of a stone, if he polishes it.
If you constantly have to defend your degree, then there is probably a reason for it. Do you think the other degrees had to defend themselves? Not everyone can afford to get an English Major because they have to support themselves later. These kinds of campaigns do not address issues of standard of living. How likely is it for all those people to be Professors?
Not to say that there is no need for them in the world. Artists are also needed. Like artist, the writer is typically under appreciated. Artists do no go around pretending that expect a stable job unlike this guy. To say these sorts of things during a Pandemic, is pretty harmful.

@@laibatahir4627 My friend got a degree in English from UC Berkeley with a pretty high GPA. I think she really regretted it because she went back to community college for computer science. That English was actually a degree that was very lonely and isolated you. Also, another friend I played board games with was Haus School of Business student from Berkeley was at CC for computer science as well.
She change to computer science, and she said she like how collaborative computer science was. She got a pretty good GPA but the UC schools would not accept her for a second bachelor's degree. Ultimately, she was rejected by all the schools.
It's much harder to go to Science and Tech from humanities. Let's be real here.

If I had that much money to invest in a university degree, I’d better invest it in a business or somewhere in the market to secure my financial future. So if NO for English, then also NO for slave jobs like nursing, accounting and IT. To me, a nurse, an accountant or an IT worker still have to work like shit for other people. Your advice is another problem that needs addressing here.

However, the value in the job market is almost zero. If you have a passion for this major, please double major with something more lucrative!!
