Very true. A "carpenter" was sawing wood and ruined the variable speed fan in my hvac unit. It was $600 to replace. I took the thermostat off of the wall after that.
Maybe use closed cell foam for the floor joist in the crawl space. As humid as it is to keep that humidity from rotting the wood and keep it from migrating upstairs.
You want to create an air barrier and buffer to the bottom of the floor and the upstairs like you mentioned. Best bet is use single sided baffle insulation so you can create an air tight envelope and use two layers of high humidity “green board” drywall like you would in a shower on the walls. It’ll last the longest and be the easiest to replace while protecting the rest of the floors and frame. You can go over it with a tongue and groove board and high zinc paint for good measure for best bug free result.
@@WatchJRGoI know it's too late but you should have bought a Mr. Cool mini split, just like the one you bought it comes precharged and and no extra tools required. Everything is the same as the way yours mounted, it doesn't need to be vacuumed down just hook up the lines and electrical then turn the valves open, turn it on and your good to go. They are very well priced also.
I really like that you kept the crawl space as a crawl space. One well lighted that you can actually stand in AND reach all the "guts" of the house will pay off big time for future repairs and maintenance. Very smart of you to not to try to create more square footage as some people suggested. I understand their thinking, but doing that would only create problems for you...BIG problems :-) I don't know what you were planning, but I would be sure to install a metal security door and frame for the crawl space entrance to keep troublemakers out of there since it's hidden from view. GREAT JOB! I'm looking forward to Day 16!
That was fast progress, thank goodness you have ac now. You won't kill over from the heat. I was looking up lakefront homes on the web. On your lake there are waterfront homes that sell for $4m . Plenty of $1-2 million. You picked a great lake. Jake's uncle has a nice water front home. His video showed that lake was crowed with Big boats during the Fourth. You have a nice mini- resort and boat.
I have a mini split to install in my sun room. I didn't know about the 5/16 fitting nonsense until I watched your video. I paused the video and ordered the adapter! Thanks! Also, the resort is looking great!
Aww Man !!! You didnt show ur pop enough !! I really wanted to see his reaction about how its going!!! He was probably thinking where did i go wrong w this kid !!! 😂😂😂
Yee ha, boy howdy, another mini resort video. Home improvement isn't what i would usually watch, but this was such a train wreck in the first video, it just seems so satisfying to see something that other people neglected, trashed, and cobbled parts of it together actually become a proper nice piece of real estate. For some reason, eric has this tunnel vision look, not talking much, just going from one task to the next. I gotta say he does good work, and you just usually looked hit by the end of each dah, but cranking this out at top speed will kinda hit ya like that. I was hoping to see your dad out here, he always has a lot to say, and talks almost as fast as you do. I really like how he goes into detail about the stuff he is doing, and how much respect you give him, much different than when you are around anyond else. You are lucky your parent's are still around, my dad died in 95 from a ruptured aorta, and my mom died in 2016 from cancer that took her in four day's from diagnosis, to the end. Miss my grandpsrents, and my only aunt and uncle. Make's me happy when i see people like your dad, and other people who remind me of those who are sleeping until the sound of a trumpet, and the best is yet to come. Thanks for putting these video's out, most of us like them, and the the keyboard warrior's criticizing your work, must live a boring life, because you obviously know what you are doing, because the work looks good, and done right because i don't recall you half assing anything you work on, you just try to get the stuff done right, whether you flip something, or keep it, and you have more integrity than most people who fix the bare minimum to sell, and hide or don't disclose whatever else is wrong, and will leave the person stranded or broke. I would definitely buy a car you flipped, because you fix everything right, and there's no check engine light lit up, or deleted. G-d bless you fellas.
I usually don’t say much on your vlogs but your ROCKIN AND ROLLIN great job man been watching you for years now lie the vlogs from cars to remodels to selling and now joint renting B&B’s soo interesting and ifnor always 😎👍🏻🇺🇸🦅
Yeah. Heat pump is pretty efficient way to do both heating and cooling the house. In addition on installing outdoor lights, it might be good idea to install security camera(doorbell or floodlight with 720p HD quality as minimum) because it seems like armed thefts are becoming more common in the most states of the US.
Excellent update WJRG, You handle those mishaps like a pro. Yup Murphy can always invade any project at will....lol. This project is awesome, I really enjoy your content. More please!
Love those mini A/C systems. I’m thinking about installing a ducted one (which a number of manufacturers now offer) for an addition to my house I’m planning.
AC and heat are important. I guess you got the mini split installed and all that good stuff👍I'm probably going to add a mini split or ducted mini split soon to my house.
I have to say that JR does not half ass anything with his Mini Resort or the Cars he works on. I have the same mentality do things the proper way or don't waste the time or money. Great job
I’d like to see your RV, how you have it hooked up, etc. it must be great after these long days to have someplace decent to crash. Hope the AC works there too.
Next time you need to run lights in a basement space, check out something like the Hyper Tough LED workshop lights. Linkable and built in motion sensors. Love to see the progress on your mini-resort!
What did your Dad think? I have to imagine he was impressed with the results. I have a feeling he had his hands in the AC install and the wiring. It looks amazing, keep up the good work!
Hell i Dunno if i can Handle that Humidity im Chubby lol Moving to KC next yr maybe the humidity is less there lol prob not and its Def. not gonna be like Vegas
You should get some Nylog Blue to put on the flare joints so there will be way less chance of refrigerant leaks on that mini-split. You add it to the rim/bell of the flare. Johnstone supply will have that adapter and the Nylog. The flares can be touchy to get just right if you don’t do it every day. Or not. I just saw the end of the video. Lol
man i too couldnt find the fittings for the mini split. it took me the whole day driving around and at the end of the day i didnt find anything. i just bought a pack of 2 in amazon and job done
I am wondering about the outside paint color and when you might get to that. What happened with the dumpsters? Is it too late to add a fish cleaning station bench, and outside shower, and security for the trash cans?
they don't need to be "super tight" they need to be torqued to spec... when you tell people they need to be super tight they overtighten them and crack the flares which causes leaks...
Will you use something like HomeAssistant to manage the house and a/c remotely, or just home kit and a mix of other apps? You could use HomeAssistant for managing smart locks and pin numbers or NFC tags for entry as well. Power monitoring, cameras, hvac, lights, everything in one place.
hope you plan on insulating the floor underneath (in the “basement”), that space should be treated as “outside” the houses thermal envelope, with that said, all if those basement water pipes need to be insulated, and you should get a door for that underhouse space and try to seal it up as much as possible from the outside/blowing wind.. you don’t want any burst water pipes. since it’s ground coupled with all of that dirt, if you keep the howling wind out of the space, it should remain above freezing all winter.
Damn, I have two of those adapters in my van 😂😂 and I’ve never understood why mini splits have these. Just make them the same as every other air conditioner in the world 😂
Back in the day vanlife was good with cheap gas . Run your AC and van engine gas is 35¢ a gallon. But today you want a hybrid to save fuel and stay comfortable.
Eric has done a ton of work. He is really a hard worker.
So amazing you have friends like that to help you on this amazing home renovation.
Tape a furnace filter over the intake for the A/C so you don't plug the evaporator with drywall dust.

Talking about how good the back of the house looks without showing us....oh the pain
You can see it a few seconds later... sorry, I can't see what the camera sees 😳

Yes, I’d noticed that. Perhaps point the camera at the subject you’re talking about more often! (We know what you look like.)
Wish I'd been closer. I have a half dozen of those adapters on the truck. I've got to say, the place is looking marvelous!
Hope you put a security cage around that AC to keep it from getting stolen. :-)
JR , you and Eric hard working men . Going to be so
Worth it for years to come . Awesome job

hate to see this project come to an end! really enjoy looking to the next update. Thanks JR.
It’s cool, you can tell how excited JR is. As he should be.
Usually you don't need a vacuum pump for a mini-split system. Just connect and release the refrigerant. Excellent work!
I'd leave the a/c on, you'd be surprised how much water content it'll remove out of the house.
But you did catch a break! After all the roof kept the rain on the ourside!
That roof is excellent 💯
Don't rush it just because you said end of month. Take your time and get things right :)
Good job JR keep us updated. It is looking much better.
Really coming together now! Congrats to all of you!
A/C is everything! Always exciting to add that to a house that never had it before!
Heck that place was lucky to have a toilet.
@@InsideOfMyOwnMind yea really! With how cramped everything was, that’s true! 😂
It's so satisfying to see you put so much high quality work into a place that was so incredibly gross and decrepit!

Agonizingly step by step the project is coming together - great job
Looking good, once you get all the drywall up it'll really change shape....👍
Would definitely be cool to see some of the neighbors reactions when you’re finished - if they’re up for being on camera ofc.
That is why I buy MrCool brand mini splits. They come recharged with Freon, hook them up and turn them on. No added expense of having them charged up.
Great seeing pops.
Glad to see the resort is doing well with views, I like them very much. 😊
You are a BRAVE SOUL getting up on a ladder on a steep hill like that!! Glad you survived long enough to post a video! :D

Yeah I need the white noise too of a fan or ac. I certainly can relate plus it keeps the air flowing.

THE COMFORTS OF HOME CABIN
looking good, thanks
You guys are hustling along!
Man I am so proud of you. Can't wait to see it all together.
This looks like such a fun project! Wish I could be there to learn and help you with this!
If you do all the sheetrock floor to ceiling like behind the AC, you'll have nothing but tapered joints to fill. Much flatter wall.
Looking good JR. Can’t wait to see the finished product.
Really enjoying this series. Can't wait for it to go on air bnb.
You might want to cage/protect that exterior mini split unit.

Nice job getting your AC online, have fun with the Sheetrock.
Man I wish I had some rain right now.
It is humid, and hot, 35c today. It's like walking in a sauna
I see the same people that plumbed my house plumbed yours. We ripped it all out recently and it was such a huge difference.

remember to to bundle too many wires together.
inductance between them will cause heating - you're creating a soldering gun like that.
Really looking good might have to rent it from you
Ahhhhhhh you’re getting so close! Proud of you JR, this little shack had been an absolutely massive project. It’s looking good 👍🏼

LETS GO JUST FINISHED LAST ONE!
You need to make a abandoned mini resort shirt
Did Sr. bring the Ice Cream machine? I think you should turn that space out front into a Cabaña Ice Cream bar!
Amazing progress!
so does DC!
Great work.
Is the ceiling insulated as well
Great job good luck
Love the AC.
Everything looks good so far. One note - I thought you guys were doing spray foam for the insulation.
You normally need to use open end torque wrenches on both ends of the line set fittings. They need to be super tight or they will leak for sure
they don't need to be "super tight" they need to be torqued to spec... when you tell people they need to be super tight they overtighten them and crack the flares which causes leaks...
I am curious as to what Lumbert Senior thinks of this project. I am sure he likes it as JR is doing everything correctly and professionally.
Great news 🎉
AC does change everything. I'm in my runaway camper bcuz it's small. $
Good video
I thought you were gonna put a window in the bathroom. Either way nice progress, should be a nice place once you guys are all done with it.
Gonna be a cute 👍🏻 Couple questions for ya. What electric charge plug are you installing and why? What rental ABB charge do you expect to receive?
