After looking at all of it over the weekend, I still find it incredible, in the bad sense, that you have to have all of these tools for this task. It looks like something Marvelous Designer should do out of the box. :(
TOP notch tutorial! I have been waiting for a workflow for how to add custom Marvelous Designer clothes to metahumans. Going to give this a go and cross my fingers that this works. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. btw, youve got some solid cinematics on your channel. i encourage others to check em out. 1+ sub
Question from a rookie: when you’re dealing with skirts or scarfs, do you have,to create bones and then rig it? I’m actually interested in the physics movements. You know, when a woman walks, the skirt billows with the wind and so does the scarf. What’s the right way to do it? I’ve looking for TH-cam tutorials about it with no luck so far. Anyway, nice video!
@@MabelYolanda-c9i That really depends on your workflow and if it’s going to be precached or realtime. I know metatailor has a physics version in beta right now, but I wouldn’t know anything about how it works because I haven’t looked into it yet :)
What are you using to capture your facial performance? i only noticed you were a metahuman at the end, lol. mouth looks good. Is this stock or did you have to tweak the rig?
I don’t know. I think Epic is focused right now on their realtime Chaos Cloth, which then in the long run aligns with their Metahuman Deformer, yet that does not seem user friendly or up to the desired quality yet, so for now I’d rather stick with Metatailor myself.
@@samgielen true. For now Chaos Cloth seems okay for like small movements on a t-shirt or pants but when you try a cape or a robe, imo, it doesn't look that great or realistic. Thanks again for that great tutorial. Looking forward to see more. Like changing hair on a metahuman using a hair cards from artstation.
@@gnoel5722 very specific. I just did that 2 weeks ago and made a linkedin post about it. I’ll play around with it some more and maybe indeed then put it into a tutorial!
Amazing tutorial, thanks so much! Is there a way to prevent the shoes from tailoring to the feet? It keeps resulting in parts of the feet clipping through the shoes, and the shoes looking like they're shinkwrapped to the feet. Even if I turn shrinkwrap all the way down, it just re-tailors back to the clipping size and shape
Can you explain how you're able to get your shoulders and body moving there on your video thumbnail? I've got face and head tracking working but can't get the body to move at all.
Thanks for the tutorial, man!! One question: Is there any way to add physics to the clothes once in Unreal, so they don't seem to be stuck to the character?
This is so amazing! thank you! zbrush and blender guys needed to do something like this, assets all ready to metahuman. so i want to ask you, do you know where the cloths goes inside the windows folders? i want to make backup of the ones i already downloaded to avoid re-download
This is amazing! Also, what hardware are you using for your Face Capture? I'm using an IPAD Pro and it works but you have a much higher level of detail in your facial movements then I'm getting.
@@samgielen Thanks for the reply. I also have an iPhone 15. I'll give that a try. Also, are you doing a cinematic render for your final content there or it is just the Live Play Mode view?
if we dont have the pro version, can we just erase it like we did the sandals/flip flop and how about using this on a 3rd person template, it seems to still have problems
Thank you for the detailed tutorial! I have a problem. I've added my metahuman along with clothes to the sequence. Everything works fine, but in some shots, particularly when the camera is far from the mesh, the metahuman moves while the clothes stay in place and stretch behind the metahuman mesh. But when I move my camera closer it works fine. I tried setting up the LODs, but nothing worked. Has anyone experienced the same issue?
This is great. I have been doing the exact same thing for a few months now, using MD clothing from Art Station and importing into Meta Tailor. The problem that I'm having is with the self collision of the clothing and stretching. If I move the arm close to the side of the body, the clothing folds inward upon itself, or pushes through and underlying garment. Raising an arm into a T-pose stretches the clothing ( under the armpit). Anyone having these problems and have a solution?
While I could certainly do a tutorial on metahumans (because this is one and not a custom character) this workflow is not realtime and is not live. This is processed metahuman data!
@@samgielen ahhh copy that, I thought that was just insanely good real time results from facial tracking haha. BUT love the way this looks, and would love a tut on setting the scene up :)

Yeah, the weights need to be fixed - he had it happening in the video also but didn’t address it. I dont know if you change that in unreal or something like blender.
Can't seem to get anything working except for a hoodie. When importing garment fbx to metatailor from exported marvdes file nothing seems to load except for buttons on every garment EXCEPT for the hoodie. (Hoodie imports 100% fine) The garments are from different artists and I've followed instructions bar for bar. Tried out chaos clothing earlier and was also having a terrible time lmao. If you have any tips I'd greatly appreciate them as metatailor has very little assistance to give. I'm still very optimistic about it all. Thanks in advance.
@@samgielen I tried to open in Blender and I'm running into the same issue. Nothing is loading properly. Where do you think I'm fumbling in the export sequence? Most likely cause I mean. Thank you
I don’t have experience with daz3d, but I can guess that you can export your clothing to an fbx from daz3d, and then import it in metatailor and use the same-ish workflow as shown in the video here
Yes. But that’s where you see the difference between the regular metahuman skin and the models + textures from 3Dscanstore (which is the girl I’m dressing here). The avatar that’s talking also could’ve looked more realistic under different lighting, but there is just pretty basic lighting on him to not make the rendering take too long.
great tutorial, im having trouble exporting though. Error 'Fix Exporter - DLL unable to load' :((( there's not a whole lot of documentation on MetaTailor yet, anyone have this issue??
Doesn’t sound like something I have encountered before, but Metatailor does have a discord where you can ask support questions. You should check that out!

Those are UE5 Mannequin rigged animations from the marketplace, which I have retargeted to the Metahuman skeleton!

is the LOD set to 0, so that it actually doesn't change from the highest one?

I would say it's the best practice to do so, so Metatailor can both rig and especially layer them correctly on the character.
