When I first watched and listened to his interviews a few years back, I was very impressed with him but to me he’s just another polished ‘politician’ who is in love with himself more than he touts he loves the USA. In India, in America and around the world people often vote not based on lofty policy principles but out of a simple need to see things change for the better. To help their families. That was pretty interesting. Glad OU invites controversial people, gives them a fair space to express their views and positions, but also gives opportunity to the audience to challenge those. On the Mooch: I have huge respect for him for going to where he's challenged, be it here or Colbert's show. He claims to be honest and direct, but he deflects and twists way too casually. I also agree that if we want to have good government, then we Must discuss politics what we want of our government and then get involved at a personal level by joining and working to bring in a government that best supports our beliefs, and then work from within to bring about what we want our government to look like. I have no doubt that he would make a darn good President. I like the way Mr. Scaramucci explains how 1975 wages haven't increased in 40 years and that 70,000 factories have been moved offshore challenging the middle class. Trump's promises of bringing these jobs back is a major factor in his appeal.
I don't see what was so bad about this interview. I was there and I thought it was the best one that I've been to thus far. The interviewer asked valid questions and Anthony responded accordingly. The intent was not to 'challenge' him (that's what the audience is for). By letting him talk, you learn quite a lot about him and people tend to say some of the stupidest things when they get overconfident (in other words, the OU President was happy to let him destroy himself).

I'll grant that SA student was obviously trying to provoke, and moral grandstand, but frankly I didn't expect a guy Anthony's age would fall so badly for it. Very revealing of the fundamental values of this very talented rhetorician who is obviously on a charming mission. Very talented at avoiding to answer certain questions.
Every time a student asked Scaramucci a question they personally agreed with, they'd clap vigorously. Then at the same time, they hold this idea that it's only right-leaning folks' dedication that perpetuates division. They'd be better suited to look at themselves to solve the problem, along with the right, than only the right.
He's taken a lot of hits in his life, and it's obvious by the strength with which he responded to what was a personal attack and turned it around and focused on historical policies.
Any time that Anthony was given the opportunity to condemn his own actions or the actions of the former president, he would do 1 of 3 things: ask for audience participation, create a stall (if *you* do *your* homework) or rephrase the question so that it avoids a direct answer. When asked about LGBT activist history, he said that he financially backed candidates that, coincidentally, held more impactful viewpoints on other, more favorable topics. He’s intelligent and he knows how to manipulate the conversation and the perspective.
I don't relate to his politics but he's charismatic and I do enjoy his turns of phrase. He really let himself down at the end though. No ego... yeah right that's why he had to make the comment on South Africa. Blew up in his face big time though... you live and learn mooch.
Today and now that Donald Trump is out of the White House, Anthony Scaramucci speaks a bit more realistically about Trump compared to what he said at his Oxford Union presentation. The South African student at around 55:47 who said that Scaramucci did not charm him, provided a somewhat accurate description of the contradictions that Scaramucci presented about Trump and his administration and policies. The South African student did not ask Scaramucci to necessarily charm him. That was just a comment that the student made to indicate that Scaramucci 's contradictions about Trump did not charm him. Then, Scaramucci provided a somewhat cheap attack on the Apartheid system of the student's country of South Africa. However, the student was knowledgeable and correct when he pointed out that, in making that statement about the South African system of Apartheid, Scaramucci was supposed to keep in mind that the United States government supported Apartheid South Africa and that it was one of the reasons why the South African Nationalist Party leaders were able to sustain and impose the system of Apartheid in that country as long as they did from 1948 to 1994. I find Scaramucci to be a smart guy. However, I thought that he presented several contradictory explanations to the students about Trump that evening at the Oxford Student Union that he did not get out of despite his attempts to do so.

He shook his hand but he was not a happy camper and to bring up Apartheid against a student who is here to debate current events is just bizarre. What does South Africa's history have anything to do with you saying you love the president and how you reconcile that with him being hard to love? He talks about trying to control the biases you collect and then he immediately tries to place a bias against this student by implying that because his country "didn't do so well" it somehow invalidates his question or challenge or person. What if the student had thrown slavery back in his face? Japanese internment? Segregation? I'm not charmed either.
It was a cheap, poorly articulated dig, but so were the student's unfounded points. He was talking about the last 50-60 years though, so that other stuff isn't relevant. I think Mucci's point was basically that people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones at other people's glass houses.

It's also exactly what got him into trouble with that leaked audio with the reporter. It's not reaching to suggest that there's a cultural component at play here. I don't think he meant any harm by it, but he just couldn't resist letting it out. That perhaps makes him unsuitable for a role in government, but it doesn't mean that the rest of his message, his political philosophy, or his personhood should be rejected out of hand. I'm much more concerned with the ethical ambiguity of his political philosophy itself--that he could on the one hand say that he supports social liberalism, the cause of gay marriage, etc. and then on the other hand claim he could back Ted Cruze in good conscience. That he could relate his experience of a blue collar childhood to his loss of touch as he ascended the wealth latter, and then defend those things Trump does which are destructive to exactly those struggling blue collar families, etc. His diagnosis is accurate. It's actually very good. It's just... disturbing how he can demonstrate this capacity for objective and thoughtful analysis, and then refuse to apply to himself. He really seems to be totally comfortable with his role as a political mercenary--who will adopt the ideology of the highest bidder, no questions asked.

Here, Scaramucchi displays all the characteristics of a classic movie villain: menace, duplicity, slipperiness, sliminess, crookedness, and the slightly psychotic persona of a smart Al Pacino-type gangster. He is indeed remarkably persuasive in his open and honourable comportment before the OU. But the look on his face when he is crossed - oh my... That's atavism for you.

42:30 that is a truly beautiful answer. I disagree with almost everything President Trump does and says and stands for but I do not understand reviling his voters. In India, in America and around the world people often vote not based on lofty policy principles but out of a simple need to see things change for the better. To help their families. We can't treat those people like traitors or like the enemy just because they have different political positions or an unpleasant opinion. We are not on separate teams we are all on a very big boat trying to sail to fair waters. I wish more people could understand that.

Take Brexit where there are people voting when they don't even know what _"no deal brexit"_ means or understand what europe is. They just can't get a job because of Polish immigrants, want a change for their family, and then vote for Brexit. Whereas if they thought about it a bit more they might be able to reason why leaving the EU won't improve their life overall all things considered because they'll get a job but wont be able to afford anything or get benefits. Or something like that just rifting an example I could vote both ways.

On the Mooch: I have huge respect for him for going to where he's challenged, be it here or Colbert's show. He claims to be honest and direct, but he deflects and twists way too casually. I still don't like him or his positions, but having the courage to be challenged is becoming way too rare a trait, and life would be so much easier if more people of public interest (and pretty much everybody else as well) were a bit moochier in that regard.

I doubt it has much to do with a honest and direct integrity to be challenged. Seems to me in his case its more to do with him being a giant egotistical idiot. If the stage he's offered has any pretension you know he'll be on it, probably led him to take the job at the white house in the first place.

Besides graduating Harvard Law on Merit, enjoying a hugely successful career at Goldman Sachs, founding his own firm, creating jobs and being appointed to a white house role, he also seems like a really open minded guy and articulates himself very well.... so maybe you could learn a lot from him after all Pat.

I could listen to this man all night because he tells it straight as a die and has some great arguments without blowing his own trumpet ... he's respectful of everyone whatever his personal history with the person, but he gives respectful reasoning and arguments to really explain his comments. I also agree that if we want to have good government, then we Must discuss politics what we want of our government and then get involved at a personal level by joining and working to bring in a government that best supports our beliefs, and then work from within to bring about what we want our government to look like. I have no doubt that he would make a darn good President. Trump is a narcissistic megalomaniac who I believe that he's also a sociopath or even a psychopath .... who I believe also has bipolar.. at least, but that is just my opinion ... and many of my Australian and American friends think the same thing.

I like the way Mr. Scaramucci explains how 1975 wages haven't increased in 40 years and that 70,000 factories have been moved offshore challenging the middle class. Trump's promises of bringing these jobs back is a major factor in his appeal.
I don't see what was so bad about this interview. I was there and I thought it was the best one that I've been to thus far. The interviewer asked valid questions and Anthony responded accordingly. The intent was not to 'challenge' him (that's what the audience is for). By letting him talk, you learn quite a lot about him and people tend to say some of the stupidest things when they get overconfident (in other words, the OU President was happy to let him destroy himself).

It's true the whole room was against him and that probably made him uneasy, but he should have expected that going in.

I very much enjoyed this interview and found myself to be rather pleasantly surprised by Mr. Scaramucci's eloquence and insight. Ironically, having just reviewed his (Scaramucci's) Twitter feed, it appears that his opinion of Donald Trump and his presidency have changed radically and seems to be focused on exposing all the ugly undersides of this administration. Interesting, but not surprising, as this administration seems to lose 'qualified' and 'competent' personnel on a regular basis.

Every time a student asked Scaramucci a question they personally agreed with, they'd clap vigorously.
Then at the same time, they hold this idea that it's only right-leaning folks' dedication that perpetuates division.
They'd be better suited to look at themselves to solve the problem, along with the right, than only the right.
He's taken a lot of hits in his life, and it's obvious by the strength with which he responded to what was a personal attack and turned it around and focused on historical policies.

The South African guy is a bit of a jerk.
Any time that Anthony was given the opportunity to condemn his own actions or the actions of the former president, he would do 1 of 3 things: ask for audience participation, create a stall (if *you* do *your* homework) or rephrase the question so that it avoids a direct answer.
When asked about LGBT activist history, he said that he financially backed candidates that, coincidentally, held more impactful viewpoints on other, more favorable topics.
He’s intelligent and he knows how to manipulate the conversation and the perspective.

Today and now that Donald Trump is out of the White House, Anthony Scaramucci speaks a bit more realistically about Trump compared to what he said at his Oxford Union presentation. The South African student at around 55:47 who said that Scaramucci did not charm him, provided a somewhat accurate description of the contradictions that Scaramucci presented about Trump and his administration and policies. The South African student did not ask Scaramucci to necessarily charm him. That was just a comment that the student made to indicate that Scaramucci 's contradictions about Trump did not charm him. Then, Scaramucci provided a somewhat cheap attack on the Apartheid system of the student's country of South Africa. However, the student was knowledgeable and correct when he pointed out that, in making that statement about the South African system of Apartheid, Scaramucci was supposed to keep in mind that the United States government supported Apartheid South Africa and that it was one of the reasons why the South African Nationalist Party leaders were able to sustain and impose the system of Apartheid in that country as long as they did from 1948 to 1994. I find Scaramucci to be a smart guy. However, I thought that he presented several contradictory explanations to the students about Trump that evening at the Oxford Student Union that he did not get out of despite his attempts to do so.
That South African dude is pretty damn "brave" to ridicule someone who is clearly the under dog in the room.

He shook his hand but he was not a happy camper and to bring up Apartheid against a student who is here to debate current events is just bizarre. What does South Africa's history have anything to do with you saying you love the president and how you reconcile that with him being hard to love?
He talks about trying to control the biases you collect and then he immediately tries to place a bias against this student by implying that because his country "didn't do so well" it somehow invalidates his question or challenge or person. What if the student had thrown slavery back in his face? Japanese internment? Segregation?
I'm not charmed either.
It was a cheap, poorly articulated dig, but so were the student's unfounded points. He was talking about the last 50-60 years though, so that other stuff isn't relevant. I think Mucci's point was basically that people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones at other people's glass houses.

It's also exactly what got him into trouble with that leaked audio with the reporter. It's not reaching to suggest that there's a cultural component at play here. I don't think he meant any harm by it, but he just couldn't resist letting it out.
That perhaps makes him unsuitable for a role in government, but it doesn't mean that the rest of his message, his political philosophy, or his personhood should be rejected out of hand.
I'm much more concerned with the ethical ambiguity of his political philosophy itself--that he could on the one hand say that he supports social liberalism, the cause of gay marriage, etc. and then on the other hand claim he could back Ted Cruze in good conscience. That he could relate his experience of a blue collar childhood to his loss of touch as he ascended the wealth latter, and then defend those things Trump does which are destructive to exactly those struggling blue collar families, etc.
His diagnosis is accurate. It's actually very good. It's just... disturbing how he can demonstrate this capacity for objective and thoughtful analysis, and then refuse to apply to himself.
He really seems to be totally comfortable with his role as a political mercenary--who will adopt the ideology of the highest bidder, no questions asked.

Here, Scaramucchi displays all the characteristics of a classic movie villain: menace, duplicity, slipperiness, sliminess, crookedness, and the slightly psychotic persona of a smart Al Pacino-type gangster. He is indeed remarkably persuasive in his open and honourable comportment before the OU. But the look on his face when he is crossed - oh my... That's atavism for you.
