The Colorado Orange 1972 BMW 2002 Touring Is Perfect For The French Countryside

- This week we take a ride in Gilles Dicham’s Colorado Orange 1972 BMW 2002 Touring through Beaucort, France.
Gilles grew up with a Golf GTI driving mother and Panhard wheeling father-needless to say, Gilles was unable to avoid receiving his parents’ petrolhead passion.
“So, today, I have over 12 vehicles at my house. I think the story will go on. My love is insatiable,” says Gilles in the most relatable gearhead mentality. With a tightly packed garage full of Panhards, old motorcycles, and Volkswagen GTIs, this plucky old Bimmer found its way into Gilles’ heart in a totally unrelated way.
Gilles tells, “On race tracks, I met a few friends who drove BMW New Class, and I would regularly join them in the Parisian region to attend Club Horizon 2002 cocktail parties. That is where I came across this famous Colorado Orange Touring and fell in love immediately. Not for the model or the engine power, but really for the color.”
It’s oftentimes an unusual reasoning or characteristic that draws us into a particular car, but once it grabs ahold of you, it seems impossible to avoid. Gilles ends the film on a note that rings all too true for the lot of us, “Unfortunately, I cannot help myself when an interesting product meets my eye, particularly when I have a history with a specific car.”

I will never forget how I once found 4 BMW 2002 close to my parent's home in a small village in the south-west of france.
turned out the guy had a whole building full of cars and bikes..
one of his 2002 was a ti with exactly the same orange as the one in the video. I fell in love with it instantly!

My late uncle had the 2002 Touring in this colour. I was inspired to buy the 2002Tii by this. After owning the 2002Tii for some years I sold it and since then I have never been concerned about what I drive (I currently drive a fun Ford Ka). I knew when I sold the BMW that I would never own a more responsive, perfectly balanced, perfectly powered motor car again unless I bought another BMW 2002Tii.
We are so far apart from each other in so many ways (not just geography), but, really, our tastes in cars align very, very closely. I could be very happy with his collection.

Ive only ever seen one bmw 2002 in person in drivable condition and it was one in this orange and it was the cleanest most well taken care of specimen. it was a coupe though and it was even for sale and it breaks my heart to this day i didnt have enough for it cause i wouldve scooped it up instantly
The BMW 2002 is always a car that is owned by a person with great stories. I met a man at the ''Hans-Peter Posrche traumwerk museum'' and he was the original owner of a BMW 2002 tii. He said he even got married in that car.

I bought one in 2007, '74 2002 Automatic, broke down on the way home. Turned out the crankshaft blew out of the block, left a big hole in it. Furthermore, I haven't got any great story other than it was the shortest romance of my life.

I still remember sound of that car since my childhood,back in 1960's and 1970's.
Back then every car had characteristic look and sound,and you could recognize every car from far away.
My Father has the same but in TTI version - the most sportive / confort one . Amazing model and design .

I love the Scirocco on the background!!! There is an old guy near my house who sells used BMW parts and he has a 2002 touring that he daily drives!! same color but his is a little faded and of course is not in such a good condition like this one, I see him almost every day at the same stop light when I'm driving to work.

I owned a 1970 2002 with Colorado paint until 1986. I was totaled in an accident. The most fuin I have ever had in a car. I miss it greatly.

That's not what we got here in the Netherlands; I do have an interesting car (in my opinion) but not those lovely countrysides.....

I had a 76 Plymouth (Mitsubishi) Arrow and I hated that it was this color of orange but I didn't have much of a choice. It was a good car though.

the car is called a 2002 and it's made in 1972
It's build in 2002, you can tell by the typical 21st century design elements like 12" wheels, chrome wheel caps, chrome bumpers and lack of headrests and airbags. 1972 is the amount of horse power it makes, but I get your confusion.

20 for the two liter engine. 02 for the 2 door neue-class model. Thus 2002. There were also 1600 and 1800 models of the same car with 2 doors.
There is a model 2000, which has 4 doors.
