Don't think I could justify spending 13k on a vacation unless I made over 350k a year. All the extras (excursions, tips, shopping, dining etc) would push it over 16k easy.

    • @CC-iu7sq
      @CC-iu7sq ปีที่แล้ว +12

It all depends on your living expenses. Personally, if I was making about 150-200k, I’d likely take a $10-$15k vacation yearly. I live in Ohio, where the average household spends less than $3k per month on necessary living expenses. Going on a $15k vacation would require 2-3 months of saving on a $150k salary, after estimated taxes.
All depends on your living expenses and how much that mortgage is. And if you’re overpaying for your vehicles.

We usually book grand suite - there are extras with that which add up to value for us (preferred seating at dinner, little “extras” from the concierge such as bridge tours, wine and chocolates delivered to the room, reserved seating around pool)…but most importantly, the concierge lounge. Pro tip: the drinks served in the lounge are included. It’s definitely another level up from regular rooms.

I didn't pay any tips because I never saw our room steward once the whole trip. all i saw was a bed made period, server is bad on RCCL NOW. The new dinner menu sucks now

My sister and I stayed in a loft suite on Oasis before they introduced Star Class. It was amazing and so beautiful. Too bad our cruise was shortened to 4 nights due to a hurricane. Our first requests getting onboard were for a hot shower and air conditioning. Neither of us had either at our homes. Thank you for bringing back a great memory from 2017. 😊

We have a 2 bdrm aqua suite on “Wonder” coming up in Sept. We are celebrating a couple of milestones as retirees, and happy to have the ability to have these levels of vacations. We also booked a cabana at Cocoa Beach on the private island, Cocoa Cay. Long time cruisers however, first time with RCCL. Thanks for the great videos and info Matt!

    I love the Royal Genie!!
That definitely would take away a lot of stress if you’re trying to max out your vacation and you just want to be super intentional and not have to think about anything. It would be like taking your travel agent on your cruise with you and have them take care of everything.
I did the math and I think that’s a great deal. Now for someone who Hass to be very frugal I still couldn’t afford it, but it’s a great deal for someone who could. One day I would hope to be able to. But when you see everything that’s included, it’s an amazing bundle.

Can't say I've ever had the luxury of a suite of any kind. I've been on 5 Royal cruises in my life (Majesty, Grandeur, Voyager, Freedom x2 in that order). The first four cruises were in interior rooms, and the 5th was in a standard balcony room. I thought I was "living large" just being in an interior room. I was totally blown away when I finally had the opportunity to experience a balcony room. Can only imagine what suite categories are like, hence why I like seeing videos on different types of cabin categories, regardless of cruise line.

Your two beedrroom suite reminds me of the Family Suites Royal Caribbean used to have. Our family of five traveled well in those from about 2008-2015. No Genie back then, but the setup of two bedrooms, two baths plus living/dining space was a fantastic floor plan for our family.

We love the 2bedroom Aqua theater suites and Royal Genie!
Our first experience was in 2017 on the Oasis.
Our 2nd was this past May out of Barcelona… like Matt we were originally booked on the Allure… then Royal changed the ships out and honored the cabin and price!
We had booked it at quite a bargain.. so to have it on the Wonder instead was amazing.
A couple of tips.. if you enjoy speciality restaurants, internet and drink package think about the cost of those per person for the week… approximately $1000 each adult. Add that to the cost of a basic cabin and see if you could “win” by booking the Genie cabin and experience!!

It is expensive, but worth every penny. Stayed in an Aqua Theater Suite on Harmony. Deck 10. The views from the balcony were amazing. Never stood in any line, onboard or during embarkation and debarkation. Breakfast on the balcony every morning. Unlimited drinks stocked in the suite. Access to all shows, and specialty dining. Royal Genie, Hossain, was awesome. The best advice he gave us was "Don't go home with dirty laundry!" One of the best perks turned out to be the daily laundry service by our dedication Cabin Attendant. Saving my pennies again for another cruise! Try it just once!

We booked the 2 bedroom aqua theater suite on Harmony of the Seas for April 2024 and cannot wait. We have booked grand suites in the past but couldn’t pass up the steal that we got for the aqua theater suite. Honestly it maybe out of people’s price range but if you book them further out that gives you more time to pay it off in installments verses paying for it all up front. And with all the extras that you receive I personally feel makes it all worth it. April 2024 cannot come soon enough; we’ll never be able to go backwards 😂🤣 Star class or bust! 😂🤣

Star class cabins are amazing! We have only done one star class and that was the 2 bedroom aqua suite on Oasis for a 4 night sailing in 2021. We do have a 2 bedroom aqua booked on Symphony in April out of Barcelona and can't wait for it. If you can find some of the "cheaper" star class sailings they are definitely worth it. Our April one is $13k for 5 people but to book 3 balcony rooms was going to be over $7k, so by the time you add all the extras from Star Class it is worth it.

We normally book an owners suite for our cruises out of Australia, last November we thought we would save a few dollars and book a Grand Suite, then we got an offer to place a royal up bid. we did for an Owners suite as it would have worked out cheaper than booking the Owners Suite originally. Well we got a call from Royal saying we had won our bid but were offered a Grand Loft Suite ( Star Class ) which of course we accepted, like your self we got this as pure luck and at a great price
Our Genie was fantastic the room was amazing and the level of service throughout the ship as we were identified as Star Class was impecable.
The overall experiance was so great that we decided to book another Grand Loft suite for a upcomming cruise in April 2024 and also hoping for a royal up bid again on our cruise this April 2023 curise

It is not worth it for me, it is 6 times more than a balcony cabin and at the end of the day you are going to the same place on the same ship as everybody else. I don't spend a lot of time in my cabin to begin with, I actually don't mind interior cabins on Caribbean cruises for that reason. I only spend about an hour a day inside the cabin when I am not sleeping so I find the balcony does not get a lot of use. I can understand why the cruise ship charges so much because it it probably equivalent to about 6 regular balcony cabins but I would never pay it regardless of how much money I had to play with. I can see the value of it to a business doing a group cruise but for me as a regular cruiser its just not worth the money.

We were on the Wonder of the Seas transatlantic and these kinds of cabins make sense, if you can afford them, as follows. Boarding especially during holiday periods can be a pain and they will expedite this process for you. Chaise lounges during the day. You have the retreat and retreat bar which will guarantee you a good chaise and access to food and drink and some peace and quiet which especially during holiday periods is a big plus. Otherwise you would have to go out in the morning and secure chaises and somehow keep them. Yes people will disposses you if you leave them unattended. Dining. No problem. The specialty restaurants are at your becon call. And of course you have costal kitchens which is a dedicated restaurant. If you dont have suite privileges you have to book the reservations for yourself and they are on a first come first serve basis and you very well may not be able to find the time slots you want. And then entertainment. There were front row seats reserved for suite guests at the Ice show and if you go on a holiday time slot you very well not be able to get reservations at all and this goes the same for the Aqua show as these venues are small. And you will have seat in the theater centrally located which is nice if it gets crowded but you wil have to pre book these. And finally, disembarcation. This is a zoo and being shepherded is a real nice touch. Just my two cents.

    • @brentshuffler1234
      @brentshuffler1234 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Your two cents? Don't you mean your two thousand dollars? (Wink) The one that Matt described in this video is almost $2,000 Per Night! I can find two-WEEk cruises on five-star ships for that amount.

@@brentshuffler1234 Im with you on this. We were granfathered onto the new Wonder when it went Transatlantic. We were originally booked on the Harmony. Tough luck, huh. We did 14 nights for about 130 a night per person or there about and were on the top deck at the very end with a seaview cabin next to the rear suite. It was almost 1000 steps to go forward to the solarium. We had the time of our lives and then we went back to Madrid and it was fantastic. Would do it again in a heartbeat. If you havent done transatlantic on an Oasis class ship you are really missing something and of course you get Spain and everyone loves it.

Thanks for the preview of cruise-line heaven, Matt! However, on reflecting, I find it very overpriced when I consider that I can get a two-week cruise on five-star ships for what you paid for one night. Yes, as with a First Class airline seat, you do get extra value... But not Twice the value, never mind ten times the price!

  • @leeperkins7941

We had this room on Harmony in Sept. and have it booked again in April. The bathrooms in these cabins aren't nearly as nice as a 2 bedroom family suite on an NCL Breakaway class ship, or the 1 BR Suites on the Disney Dream/Fantasy. However, the balcony is amazing. We had no need to go to the pool deck and search for a lounge chair, we just stayed on the balcony. And then the ability to see aquatheater shows from there was a huge plus. Of course, neither NCL's butler or Disney's concierge comes close to the service you get from the Genie. As he stated in the video, you have to really search out the "deals" for these rooms, because most of the time they are far more than I can afford. However, we have found 2, and there is no rhyme or reason as to to why, in which the price was close to what he quotes in the video, and thus we took them. Most of the other times I have searched, the price has been way more.

@@RoyalCaribbeanBlog thank u for the kind words, there were just so much to do on an Oasis class ship especially Wonder so we really didn’t stay in the room much other than to sleep. 6 days is too short on this ship. It’s our first time in the Aqua Theatre (like u we originally booked for Harmony at amazing deal and moved to Wonder). We do find on nights of “InTENse” especially with late show it’s hard for us to fall asleep while the show is going… lol.. also biggest complaint is the size of the bathrooms. We are also family of 4 and usually book the GT, probably will go back to that next time(I know they don’t have GT on Wonder anymore😢). We do fancy the L1 especially on Wonder’s dedicated suite area, have not tried before because no separation for the kids, maybe next time. Thanks for always sharing amazing content, I’ve followed you for a few years already and am huge fan. Too bad didn’t see you while onboard for a quick chat, this ship is just so big haha😅

On the one hand, I simply can't afford this when I cruise...On the other, I wanted a "splurge" cruise once and booked the Haven on NCL for 15K last year. It wasn't anywhere near as nice as this. ...If you were going to have a "splurge" cruise and treat yourself, I do think this suite is much better than the nicest rooms on the Haven, especially since Royal Caribbean is much more expensive anyway. Just a regular balcony room on RC can sometimes cost you 7K or 8K for a family of 4 (on a newer ship and around the holidays or peak Summer), so this isn't as outrageous as paying 15K for a Haven room when the regular balconies are 4 or 5K. People that are really budget conscious generally think Royal is overpriced anyway, so them doubling the price of a cruise for a "Star suite" isn't totally out-of-character for them.

We booked the presidential suite on liberty back in 2016. 2 families, 9 people. It was very expensive and we didn't know what all the concierge could do so we did not utilize him basically at all. That being said, it's a nice room but crazy expensive.

I have cruised in sky class suites for a long time. The last two I did were both star class. I really didn't know going in how much different it would be or if it would be worth it but it absolutely is. Like Matt says, it is a luxury but if you are able to afford it the benefits are truly amazing, especially the genie. Our genies, Alan on Oasis and Smitha on Allure were exceptional. ANYTHING you asked for, they would deliver and were so gracious in doing so. I'm used to doing most things on my own when I cruise but letting go and letting them take care of us (spoil us is more like it), it truly made a difference in my experience. There is basically nothing the genie can't do for you and combined with all the other star class benefits, I would absolutely recommend a star class suite.

As a traveler who has stayed in aqua theater twice, once before star class and once after the star class experience is much better. We got very lucky on our 2nd aqua theater star class in November of 2018 it was new and quite affordable for 5 people (1 child) honestly cheaper than our 2014 trip of 4 adults. You are spoiled, it makes cruising normal seem mundane. Remember there are 3000 rooms on oasis class ships….only 10 share 3 genies…. Want chops for dinner on your deck while watching the aqua theater show….done….want food delivered on the suite only deck for lunch…..done…..not to mention best seating at any show you want…. It is more expensive now, but well worth it

Anyone trying to justify return on investment will only come up empty handed. The ONLY question to be asked is... to YOU was your experience worth what you paid. EVERYONE will have a different opinion of their experience. I don't expect anyone else to have the same opinion of MY experience. For us totally worth it. We would rather cruise less at the service level we prefer. I don't expect anyone else to feel the same!!!! Just OUR choice. This is so incredibly subjective! Probably the MOST subjective subject (next to formal night) out there.

Anyone thinking $13k is madness has not priced cruises lately. 2 balcony cabins on oasis class ship week before Christmas will easily set you back 6-7k right now. So given all that is included not bad at all. Assuming you want/use all the extras, it's basically 1.5x the normal price. And to be clear I would not book it. I am someone who books the largest interior or oceanview i can afford for the best deal kind of guy so we can cruise 1-2x per year instead of every other year. What used to be crazy talk in cruise prices isn't that crazy anymore.

I was inspired by Matt's video last year where he splurged on a Star Class cabin (th-cam.com/video/BhxzLc4SofA/w-d-xo.html) so we booked our own stay in a 2 bedroom Aqua Theater suite on Allure back in August 2022 (th-cam.com/video/yqW6VFWatDA/w-d-xo.html). Absolutely loved it! The perks are well worth it. However, the Royal Genie is such a difference maker. It was our first ever Royal Caribbean cruise and our Genie Jay planned out and made reservations for our entire 8 night trip. We loved it so much we booked another 2 bedroom Aqua Theater suite for June 2024 on Harmony of the Seas out of Galveston. We can't wait to try out the different specialty restaurants and other things on Harmony.

The suite is beautiful and all the included options are fire, but me personally I feel it's unnecessary to have something like that. Just sailed on explorer of the seas in June as my first cruise ever, had a basic cabin and the only time I was in there was for sleep at night or washing up for dinner lol. There were way too many things to do on and off the ship to even care about how my cabin looked and explorer is nowhere near the biggest ship in Royals fleet.

I don’t think I can justify spending more than a balcony cabin. Suites are nice but don’t think it’s worth it with how much we’re doing and not in the room much. Plus would have to be a long cruise 10 days or more but then it gets crazy expensive and would still prefer the savings for a balcony.
