You can come n go if you have pultiple entry.... Conversation of status is only possible when u will be greeting offer to work and it is possible to process while u will be USA.... You can process h1b from India also... My suggestion is try it with in STATES.... If possible.... It's getting very strict nowadays....

chuwaka1 .......as you said your lost of passport and b2 visa was stamped on that passport no. With my experience I can say it doesn't matter if you lost your passport.... You can apply the new passport .....it is the case like if our passport expires with validity of time and if any long term visa has been indorsed on it that visa will be valid on our new next passport...... When you will apply new passport automaticly your previous passport no. And file no. Will appear on the new passport don't worry and you already informed he embassy regarding the issue..... You need to have the record of the visa or xerox copy.... Your Ds 160 application no. You can request them for your son's visa... Your visa records will be their with them to ... There are chances if they might ask you to apply new visa application in that case they may void your previous visa and they will give a new visa for security reasons....
