Would you consider using one of these CPU's in 2023?
Sorry, I had to re-post the video. The 1st one I messed up editing. I decided to try to make the audio better, and managed to mess up the graphics a lot. So I posted the original one instead. The behind the scenes of this video have been a mess! Haha!
I hope you enjoy the video! 😊

It's a very old CPU and I like it. I really wish it could still be used as the daily driver for a gamer. Surprisingly the Intel CPUs are lasting even longer. Like the i7 980x.

Until recently (3 months ago), I used to play with the Phenom II x6 1055T, with two gpu (first amd 6770 x2, then amd R7 250x x2 and now nvidia gtx 960 + amd R7 250X) and 16 G DDR3. It did all the job until SSE4.1 came in most games. I know there's patches for most of them (games) but I had to change my setup for the newer to come (sight). This CPU was and still is incredible !

It is a pretty good CPU for older games at least. And even if you are able to bypass the instructions some games you can actually get banned for doing that due to anti-cheat sadly!

I have heard lots of good things about Linux being easier to run. But I have never experienced it myself. I might not know how to even set the operating system up properly because when I tried it it was actually slower. I couldn't get games to work though. Just in the desktop it was slower. Probably my fault.

  • @BK2Modder
    @BK2Modder ปีที่แล้ว +5

There are actually patches for some of the games that require missing instruction sets made by various modders (mostly Eastern Bloc), patching out the SSE requirements
Intel SDE can also emulate some, but this normally isn't recommended, as it can be slow
It's pretty amazing these things could be dropped into old DDR2 AM2 boards to bring them up to around Ivy Bridge/Sandy Bridge level! For a lot of people, they could have kept running on the same platform to even current day if tempering expectations.
Still kicking myself for going the Core 2 route many years ago for a budget build instead of pushing a friend's AM2 board to the limit; having dug it out and upgraded it recently with one of these, Phenom would have been the better value path.
Thanks for covering some of the more niche hardware like this!

You're welcome! Also it isn't really as fast as an i7 940 or something. It is about the speed of an i3 3220, or an i5 2400. But that's about it.
I do enjoy using that CPU, but it is slower than you would expect, being that it has 6 cores.
Thanks for the comment by the way! (:
Also, it supports DDR3 RAM too, which is very nice!

My parents still have my old Phenom 2 x6 1100t in a desktop at their house. They still use it for browsing occasionally, I'm surprised that it can still support running games like Halo Infinite at over 100fps+ !!!!! 6 cores at the time seemed like overkill, but it allowed it to survive as an office/light gaming pc. It originally had a nvidia gtx 560 1gb, the card died, and it now has an amd rx 460 2gb I bought second hand for them 6 years ago.

That is quite nice! I been looking for a cheap 10100T, but they all seem to be very highly priced anymore. But even then, they are decent. But not for the price anymore.
If it's not used for gaming, it should be good for many more years to come! But it might require switching to Linux, as Windows 10 will be discontinued in ~2025. And the Phenom won't run Windows 11... Sort of.
I have ran it on Windows 11 before by messing with the install file to get it to install. But it doesn't update anymore. It did for a while, but it's stuck on Windows 11, version 21H2. Which is a bit old. The update does not even show in the Update area. It's like it isn't a thing! Lol.

12 years of experience with the Phenom ii x4 955 c3 v be, it is no longer as bad as it was before, recently I understood the reason why these processors are giving acceptable results, the secret of this is that amd on the day of the launch of these CPUS did not give developers all the code, but now The topic has changed completely.
If you try games like atomic heart, Hougwarts legacy, diablo 4, resident evil 4 re, village, Wo Long Fallen Dynasty, Warhammer 40,000 Darktide, Gotham Knights, you will find great results compared to the age of the CPU .
For example, I tried Phenom II X4 955 and gtx 960 4gb with Ryzen 5600g and vega 7 4 gb vram in MOTO GP 22 , isn't the second supposed to give better results than the first, but the first was better
The games that I mentioned to you above, you will see the difference and you will find it in favor of the Phenom II, although the processor goes to work 100 percent in some games, the really amazing thing is that there is no drop fps
